Yeah, Kali, similar occurance for me on the last day of that previous year we just left behind... I was working at a company that sold caviar and fish to places like Le Bernadin and various Ritz and Wynn resorts and we'd just finished our busy season (it's balls to the wall until new years) and I got called up to the boss' office and was told I was laid off effective immediately.
The thing that gets me is I got much better reviews than the other kid they kept in my department, but his mommy works in the accounting department and they didn't want to rock her boat. Utter bull. Wheee. 121 dollars a week unemployment would totally cover my bills if I didn't live in the frosty northeast and need heat to live.
It's almost as fun as LAST winter, when the restaurant I was working at went out of business halfway through december, owing me like 700 bucks in back pay.
Guess it's time for all of us to figure out a way to be SELF employed, huh? |
