Meanwhile; I don't want to do this, but I have been possessed by the soul of my poor, lost Flyboy.
Why do you say that, man? What makes you think it's a game? What sort of game is it, man? Ker-plunk?
But seriously. Like I say, I think you're right to be sorry, LC. It wasn't a good place to post, and it wasn't a good message to post, and the wriggling subsequently has not been edifying. In the greater scheme of things, it doesn't really matter, which is something of a comfort, and I don't plan to give into my grief (weeping, rending of garments, self-harm in a slightly sexy way) until I am pretty sure that it will be rendered totally bathetic by Flyboy returning as the aforementioned alien, cyborg, teenager and Iron Man. I don't think there is a good way to spin the fact that Barbelith's lack of administration and descent into disrepair (outside the Conversation, the bit of Comic Books about Grant Morrison and the bit of Film, TV and Theatre about Dr Who and superhero movies), and the dilution of its original mission to the point that about eight people ended up trying to deal with every outbreak of the stupid offensive shit that had been notionally engineered out of the place eventually drove someone who was there pretty much from the start, who posted prodigiously, who generated threads and content and who even at the death was still making posts that were either amusing or apt or both (according to independent witness brb) was eventually driven, essentially, feral. Arguably the problem here is not what Barbelith is becoming but rather that it was ever anything else to start with, and that's difficult, of course, because you can't really change the past. You can, theoretically, alter the course of the river, but, you know, it's a river. There are very good and convincing reasons why it runs in a particular channel. And that is often a very good thing for the people whose lands are irrigated by the river, although admittedly not so much for those whose lands are not.
All good clean fun, of course, until somebody comes back as a cyborg and destroys Coast City. |
