Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
02:13 / 07.02.08
I know, I know. Completely different person. Also, I have duplicate Papers robots.

Saint Keggers
02:16 / 07.02.08
Yeah, well.., um.. Superman had robot duplicates as well.

So there.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:36 / 07.02.08
Well, doesn't Superman just think he's so damned cool.

Saint Keggers
03:24 / 09.02.08
And rightly so! Where are your robot duplicates? What's that? You dont have any? Well, call the whaaaaambulance!

12:23 am
I want sushi. mad sushi. sickening amounts of sushi.
and pie

This Sunday
04:08 / 09.02.08
I have pie. Sorry I can't share, but last time I tried to share pie over the internet, I got boysenberry and crust stuck in my USB port. And if I hadn't thought to try tonguing it out, well, maybe the whole thing would have gone better.

I also have robot duplicates. Of Superman. The good ones, that look like him, not those dinky Post Crisis wind-up toys L-Ron impersonators.

I just ate too many cookies, and now I'm ill.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
22:35 / 09.02.08
I want cookies. Why won't someone give me cookies?

Saint Keggers
22:44 / 09.02.08
HI. I heard someone mention cookies? Are they here yet? Can I have some?

Essential Dazzler
22:44 / 09.02.08
Do you deserve cookies?

Think hard and be honest.

Saint Keggers
22:46 / 09.02.08
I think if they had cookies more people would act in a cookie deserving way. That's the way it is with the cookie. Om.

I have biscuits, being British. I've just come from a surprisingly stupid discussion on /a/ about whether the British or the Japanese have the worst teeth, considering that both are island nations with attendant inbreeding. Understanding of history and genetics was not in evidence, and to think it all started with a picture of Jonathan Ross.

Why do I spend time there, Barbelith? Can't you get me electronically tagged or something?

Our entire campus is Banned from 4chan, because one of my friends did a "Call to invasion" or whatever as part of the Chanology thing. Not that I read it or anything.

Saint Keggers

I think the bad teeth thing is because you have buiscuits and not cookies. Its always a matter of cookies. Unless its a matter of pie. Both matters are superceeded by the matter of cheesecake.

knowledge of history: 0%
knowledge of genetics: 0%
Being able to ramble on about desserts: Priceless

I never thought of Japanese people as having bad teeth. Nearly every Japanese person I've ever seen/met had nice teeth. Maybe they just got braces or something when they were kids?

one of my friends did a "Call to invasion"

Well, at least you can say it was in the name of a worldwide effort to bring down an evil mindwarping cult. He's part of history now, I guess, depending how it pans out.

Say, former Papers, I just read Overclocked. Pretty damn good, though I think "I, Robot" has the edge over "I, Row-boat". Whatever, I'm back on a cyberpunk streak now. Have you read any Charles Stross?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
23:06 / 09.02.08
A Place So Foreign is also really good, his other book of short stories -- the time-travel title story is worth the price all on its own.

I have stayed away from 4chan. Actually, other than a brief flirtation with the Flipside back in 2002, I haven't really been on any boards beyond Barbelith.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
23:18 / 09.02.08
Speaking of food -- should we do Vietnamese or Japanese or Thai tonight?

Liger Null
23:22 / 09.02.08
Um, Thai?

That's a personal favorite of mine, though you all might be hungrier for one of the others.

That sounds sensible. That is why you have the air of a mature person, who gets things done and maintains adult relationships. Meanwhile, I'm surrounded by freshly ordered manga from Amazon and have just doused my clothing in beer, while my ex-girlfriend sleeps peacefully and non-alcoholically elsewhere in the house.

Does anyone else fight shy of posting on a Lateshift because you don't want your post to be that one that just hangs there until someone bumps the thread again the next day/night? It's so mortifying and there's absolutely no science to preventing it. Writing this now will not go any way towards jinxing that likelihood for me, of course.

I don't really know Vietnamese food... Thai and Japanese are fiddly unless someone is preparing it for you, then it's the most delicious thing in the world. Are you in one of those urban areas with fantastic takeout options? I'm envious.

That happens to me all the time. You get used to it.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
23:28 / 09.02.08
I think we'll go for Vietnamese food -- I've been tasked with Picking the Destination -- because we eat too much (read: not enough) Japanese food, and if we go for Thai there can be stomach related problems with the Accomplice. Not to mention if he eats a particular pork dish he smells like pork for three days straight and that doesn't really do good things for my desire to be around him, being all vegetarian and reacting badly to the smell of pork.

"Mature" -- ha! I might not be surrounded by beer swill (there's a ficsuit name / magazine title / T-shirt slogan) and manga, but I seem to relate to people via Superman metaphors more often than I should. But thank you all the same.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
23:30 / 09.02.08
And, yeah, takeout options up the wazoo. But we're Going Out To a Restaurant, like big boys. Visitor from out of town and all. Not that we don't eat out far too often for our own good.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

I tried to read Naussica the other day but failed, utterly. Couldn't get into it.

Essential Dazzler
23:47 / 09.02.08
Have you seen the film?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
23:49 / 09.02.08
No. I'd probably like it, because I think it more had to do with not being comfortable reading backwards right-to-left than anything. I tend to like OEL manga like King City, Scott Pilgrim, or Off*beat quite a lot, so I think it's more the reading style that gets me.

Essential Dazzler
23:52 / 09.02.08
I picked up the right to left really quickly, when I picked up Scott Pilgrim 4 I went right to the back of the book and got the "Stop!" message, totally instinctively.

The film is ace. I cried for like a solid 20 minutes after it finished. But I've cried at Scrubs so whatever.

Dude, if you cry at the end of Nausicaa, that's just proof you were watching the movie while it was playing. Anything below that is completely nothing to be ashamed of.

I'm reading Yotsuba & ! for the first time and getting a real Scott Pilgrim feel from the layouts and pacing, I wonder if O'Malley has acknowledged this at any time?

Also received were several volumes each of Welcome to the NHK! (comedy satire with sharp and nasty Japanese-people-are-the-loneliest-in-the-world undertow) and Busou Renkin (Bleach/Fullmetal Alchemist-riffing shonen parody that winds up being 10x more inventive and fun than the average shonen manga. And the anime's terrific).

Good haul. I can't even think of Yotsuba&! without pulling this face:

Photobucket

You owe it to yourself to try this manga out, Papers, be like us.

no. no I am not. I dont like that animation style. It annoys me.

It's a book!

That picture wasn't animated!?

Saint Keggers
01:56 / 10.02.08
It isnt? Wow. I have to severly cut down on the blue fungus!

Yeah, I know but animation done in that style annoys me far more than the books (which annoy me just not too much)
