I'd actually put Balent on a category above Liefeld, rather easily really.

That'll be really funny until we discover Rob Leifeld's mum had some fucked up, lolloping bone-deformity.

If his dad had a birth condition where he had to wear two thousand fanny packs at the same time all over his body, I'd stop laughing as well (and also if he had very weird stick-feet and carried guns four times bigger than his wife's enourmous giraffe legs).

How dare you mock Rob Liefeld's father's many, many colostomy bags?

Having read an issue of Tarot Of The Black Rose, Jim Balent’s creator-owned magnum opus, not so long ago I can confidently say he’s better than Liefield. It had a coherent plot, some originality and cute ideas and it had been published, something Rob’s never been too strong on. The fixation with ludicrously-breasted witches fighting in the nude obviously dominates the comic to the exclusion of virtually everything else, but it’s still better than anything Rob ever wrote.

Jim's simply following the first rule of writing: write about what you know, your own life experiences. His wife is a practising Witch, and regular model for his artwork.

You mean Holly Golightly (also known as Fauve)?

There's something quite entrancing about Iron Man's pic back on the first page though, isn't there? It's not good art, and it's certainly not attractive, but it's something I've observed with some of Liefeld's art before, it's sort of so wrong that it's hard not to spend ages gazing at it as one's brain refuses to process exactly how bad it is.

Yeah, it's eerie- I found myself measuring her body and legs (it turns out her shins are as big as her body, as are her thighs).
But the writing is horrific in the same way- Thou misunderstands me, my Lord. Shurely it should be 'misunderstandeth me mine lordeth' or maybe 'looketh at my crazy ass legs, they're like, twice the size of my torso!'

Well, it wouldn't be "thou" at all. If she was talking to her lord, it would be "you". Absolute rookie error.

Enchanted thighs. Of evil. Shins of doom. Be not wooed by these lengths of awkwardness. Down that road lies... pouches. Thousands of useless pouches. And limbs made of bands of metal. And tiny brittle ankles.

If we all look the other way, never again will a giraffe-woman be forced to balance her forward-arched torso on tiny little ankles with often disappearing feet! Imagine the damage that can come to someone whose collarbone sticks out farther than their chin! Who has a spine so rubbery it sags dangerously in arc at all times!

For giraffe-Enchantress and Rob's very own heavily-articulated yet surely biologically disproportionate Shaft, let's all go play swingball instead! And make fun of Moore's beard.

Reading issues of 'Youngblood' (the early issues of course - a much finer vintage) is a very fucking weird experience indeed. Not really like taking drugs, more like eating out-of-date takeaway food.
They're so violent. In a really sick-making John Waters-esque way. There's something about these over inflated hard-bodies having their jaws punched off while other charcaters bellow cod-Shakespearean attrocities... It's all far more disturbing than anything Pappy ellis could come up with in his most lurid cyber-fantasies.

But he is the sort of joke figure that comics fandom loves to spend too long writing about.

Thing is, though, sleaze, that if we're interested in a medium and someone in it is being a cock, surely we SHOULD take the piss? Sim, Byrne (though he's being marginally less of a cock recently), Liefeld... if they will persist on being absolute dicks and none of their target audience mocks them for it, surely that audience is being somewhat remiss?

C'mon, poetry critics and fans LOVE ripping into Pound and Eliot for their anti-Semitism (and McGonagall for his tortured verse); even us opera buffs like mocking Wagner for his own anti-Semitism... and as a huge horror fan, I think I'd be being lazy if I didn't ridicule Lovecraft for his racism. I'm not sure when comics fans do it it should be condemned.

Otherwise how are these fucks ever going to know any better?

You didn't see the Captain Carrot thing?

I didn't, somehow, but here it be (involves the "scrolldown").

JB is a veritable treasure-chest of asinine opinion about the things in life that really don't matter, isn't he? Imagine he'd talked smack about Alan, eh? (He does, all the time.)

You didn't see the Captain Carrot thing?

I didn't. But now I have, thanks to Falcon. And, well, yeah, that kind of fucks that entire parenthetical "not Byrne-bashing" thing I had going on. Please pretend those parentheses didn't exist. Byrne IS as much of a cock as he used to be.

Blimey. What a cock.

I didn't even bother to read the thread (only I did. what I mean is... you know). Just contributing with my "Liefeld has horrible style and should be stabbed with pencils"; that he dares to badmouth someone who has so much more and better creative work to show, oh my nerves...
