I visit my nieces more than I visit my brother and his wife, really. They're just about the only family I go out of my way to figure out a way to visit, aside from my grandparents, who're much closer geographically, and so not as much a hassle to get to.
Happy/sad the other day when talking to the girls and they were feeling guilty because everyone's happy about my nephew being born. Being a boy, you know, like it's a correction of past mistakes. Which was how the nieces were taking it. I had to tell my brother to go hug and praise his girls, even if it is half new-baby envy; still half of it's everybody so excited there's a boy! as if it'll be better for everyone. Poor kids.
Of course, they think they can swap the new kid for a puppy and nobody'll notice, so I'm sure it all balances out. |
