"together for them but the RPG 'bug' didn't infect them (multiplayer computer games dominates their lives). Maybe Feng Shui though ."

Schwee rocks.
If that doesn't get them, nothing will.
I find Muliplayer online games way too limited.
Vampire redemption came close to being doable, but still wasn't.
Maybe the new D&D one....

"I really miss Kult."

Its still out there, just hard to find.

"Oh, GRIM and pals, I you could do me a bit of a favour could you? My younger brother's big into gaming, but he can't get a regular group together and wants to play something horror/conspiricy related via email? I don't s'pose you could help point him in the right direction.. "

Sure thing, let me know how old he is, what sort of game stuff he likes and then put him in touch with me and I'll see what I can find.

I'm just sad that 2nd edition didn't take off more and that the company has relegated it to the 'failed products' bin of lost games.

Since it made Call of Cthulhu seem a bit tame, I can understand that it wasn't for everybody though

Wow Grim, congrats.
Someone threw me a copy of your book to read at a Larp game I was monstering and I couldn't stop laughing.
Ever read HOL perchance? I can forgive White Wolf a lot for publishing that.

As for what I'm playing at the moment, an alright game of Ars Magica and a pretty decent Vampire Larp game up north, I'm having a laugh being an malk who thinks hes a bond villian, think fu manchu :-)

But I'll take this over to the geek thread now...

Yay..an RPG thread...although it looks dead. SO I shall make a saving throw vs death and...
POOF!
As for what I play(ed): D&D, Ravenloft, Starfrontiers, Battletech, Robotech, Vampire (although I dont really like it), Toon, GURPS, HOL and my UberFavorite: PARANOIA. I love this game. Not to toot my own horn but I am a paranoia Dming god.
Here's the bad part. During one of my tornado attacks of room cleaning it was thrown out..NOT BY ME. (the thrower is recoverign and suffering only the mildest of traumatic flashbacks.)
So is there anyone out there who has a copy of Paranoia...(and feel like scanning it???)
Alpha-Complex just isnt the same without me.

The reason it's dead, I think, is that somebody finally noticed that Role-Playing was not exactly a literary pursuit and started up the thread in the conversation. I suggest you do the same. If reading rulebooks is considered to fit here, then we may as well discuss the instruction manual for 125cc Honda motorbike.

Actually...

You really lose a lot of the finer points unless you read it in the original Japanese.

Its writing.
That makes it a literary pursuit.
The creation of world's and characters to capture the imagination of others.

Oh, and don't scan and pirate Paranoia, RPG writers make precious little money as it is, and the business is in trouble and threatened by the unfeeling behemoth that is WOTC.

So, do authors a favour, and buy your RPG books.

Books about role-playing games are arguably relevant to the "Books" section.

Role-playing game books, reviewed on their merits as pieces of literature, are arguably relevant to the "Books" section.

A novel based on a role-playing game is entirely relevant to the books section.

The act of role-playing is relevant to a leisure pursuit. I'd say the conversation, with maybe some parts of it potentially relevant to discussions in the head shop.

So, you were on-topic. This discussion is, generally, not.
