was anyone else really fucking confused by Sylars re-entry in episode four? I mean the last time we saw him he was stranded in the middle of a gigantic rainforest that looked like it was a VERY long way from any sort of civilisation, having recently undergone major surgery. Then, all of a sudden, he's lying in the middle of the road. It wouldn't be so bad if he still had his powers, but he doesn't. I mean, unless some serious time has passed, it just seems so infeasible that he could get out of there so quickly. They could at least have postponed his re-entry to the series for a few more episodes.

And Parkman? He's turning into more of a douche as the series progresses, what on earth was he thinking making Molly find the Nightmare Man? Micah's cousin on the other hand, corny as she is, is a laugh. I loved the wrasslin move she pulled on the hold-up guy!

Ah yeah the wrestling, being the big wrestling geek that I am I liked that she pulled off the 619 smoothly. More wrestling will improve Heroes. So how long before she starts watching some Kung-Fu movies.

So the other major story this season will be Sylar trying to use the siblings powers to wipe out humanity X-men 2 style, too obvious right?

Forget that, she should watch starwars! Do the Darth Vader throat choak on everyone and you know, use the force.

WARNING: over on SciFi.com there seems to be a HUGE spoiler RE the New Big Bad's identity. So don't go there and stumble across it like I did, b/c it's a pretty major reveal...

I was a bit peeved that they just ran into Sylar. That seemed grotesquely clumsy. I'm hoping there was some motivation behind it, some reason why it wasn't a stupid coincidence. I'm also really fairly irritable that everyone seems to have survived the first season, only for the characters we'd barely got a trace on (Takei!) getting the squish on. Quite bad!

Mixed feelings about it so far. Wasn't there a character in New X-men or something who could do stuff like the memory girl? It's a good power though, although it's going to get hard for them to keep track of what she can do, I suspect...

Well, the Heroes universe has always been laughably small--think Hiro-Nathan, or Peter-Isaac. Or Peter being Charles DeVeaux's nurse, or Hiro meeting DL at the car crash (I'm sure there are others). So Sylar magically appearing in the middle of the road just in time to meet the Wonder Twins is absurdly implausible. But I can't think of a reason why it simply couldn't (or shouldn't) happen. Which makes it better than some of the other things that have happened this season. Like:

Why was Sylar left alone with Candace, and why isn't he being pursued now that she's dead? Do the RADIOACTIVE ISOTOPES used in season 1 no longer work?

And how on earth was Claire even put in a position to meet West? Bennett was, after all, the man trusted with tracking and cataloguing Heroes (of which there aren't many), and then decides to move his family and lonely, insecure jailbait daughter into one of the maybe 5 school districts in the US featuring a hunky young Hero?

I can't but feel a little sorry for the writers--the idea that they'd shift focus every season to a new story arc was what made super-duper heroes like Peter and Sylar and Hiro possible. But now that they're not dead, I'm at a loss to see how the characters are going to be written. They've each done the "Hero finds himself unable to use his powers" arc, and now Peter and Hiro are doing the "Hero is on soundstage B and refuses to come back to main set" bit. Short going back and forth between the can't/won't use powers within the context of the main plot, there's not a lot for them to do, is there? Except continue to take up screen time.

But we'll see. I don't watch enough TV to begin to make adequate comparisons, and I know this isn't The Wire, and that the entire season including all new characters won't be subtly and perfectly mapped out in episode 1. So maybe they're going somewhere darker or more interesting than some random guy who scares little girls. Thanks to the magic of NBC Video Rewind, I'll keep watching (at least as long as they continue not to block it at work).

So that spoiler I mentioned was not spoilery after all. That's what I get for missing Ep 4!

Do the RADIOACTIVE ISOTOPES used in season 1 no longer work?

While investigating what happened to that one-off character who could take over internet communications (She led Ted & Matt to the Bennets but wasn't there for the hostage-taking), I found out that there was a comic released that had her sneaking onto some space station, blah blah fishcakes, she becomes a ghost in the machine & can only talk to Micah, and she disabled the sattellite tracking the isotopes.

Which answer, I think, is worse than wondering why they aren't tracking Sylar.

Missed last week's ep. My experiement in watching broadcast tv (instead of dvd catch-up) seems to be faltering!

News of ORIGINS being shelved is dissapointing.

WHAAAAAA?!

The end of the last episode was...was...ACE!
I really didn't expect Adam to be Takezei but I'm impressed. This does throw up some interesting speculation though, is the reason Adam is in present NY because a) his power retards ageing to the point where he is functionally immortal or b) some funny time shennanigans ?

Personally I like the idea that his power keeps him alive, for two reasons. Firstly it means that Claire is equally functionally immortal. and two because it means that it's POSSIBLE that Adam is Nathans real father (and, therefore, Claires grandfather).

Spaniel
10:20 / 09.11.07
I did think Adam would be Takezei, mainly because characters with healing factors have historically been conceived of as immortal/very slow to age (see Wolverine), b) Takezei clearly had unfinished business with Hiro.

In popular drama like Heroes it's rare for a threat to be snuffed out before it's had time to fulfill a large chunk of it's potential

The only deal with Kenzei/Adam being immortal is...why, if he encountered Hiro back in the 16th century, would he wait till NOW to raise some havoc? Other than lazy writing, I mean. If he's immortal and has been holding a grudge against Hiro, he could've gotten his vengeance centuries ago. He could've wiped out Hiro's entire family line, so that Hiro never existed. So I'm hoping there's something else involved...though with the short-cuts this show always takes, I doubt it.

I saw Adam/Kenzai sometime in the middle of the episode, though I should have seen it last episode. I rather think that Adam has become one of those burn the world to the ground people. As to why he waited? I don't know, either he wanted to hurt Hiro directly, or he wanted to wait until people with the ability to do so showed up.

I imagine him a bit as Vandal Savage from DC One Million. Immortal, but his real ability is the combined wisdom of his years.

And I must say that I was dreading Heroes: Origins. The idea of introducing and shoehorning in characters voted on the idiot American public didn't appeal to me at all. The thought of expanding the cast of a show with this huge a cast seemed like a bad idea. It's not that I think the cast is bloated, but it seems proven that the writer's don't always know how to handle the large cast effectively, and usually just end up pairing characters together due to random chance to spin the wheels of the plot forward.

Also, has there ever been a hint that Nathan and Peter didn't have the same father?

Shiny: Well Over Thirty

I was assuming Kenzei/Adam couldn't make his move against Hiro and his family until after Hiro had gone back to meet his earlier self due to time paradox gubbins. I mean he seemed to be an idiot back when he was hanging out with Hiro in Japan, but during hundreds of years of waiting he might well have smartened up enough to grasp the wisdom of not breaking time. It's also plausible to suggest that he didn't want to take his vengeance on Hiro until Hito had done the things he's taking vengeance for. Either way it's open season now I imagine.

"And I must say that I was dreading Heroes: Origins. The idea of introducing and shoehorning in characters voted on the idiot American public didn't appeal to me at all."

We're not ALL idiots over here, dear boy, especially those who have the good sense and taste to watch genre programming.

I liked the Origins idea from the get, go and moreso when I read that each Ep would have 2 stories told in semi-Twilight Zone fashion.

i don't watch this show (I'll catch up with it eventually), but those of you who have felt the show has a major sophomore slump may be interested to know that the producers have said, publically, 'we know the fans are unhappy and have major criticisms of how season 2 has been going; we'd like to say the criticisms have a lot of validity and we are working to improve things.'

Very interesting. It's cool (and rare) to hear producers/writers saying 'yeah, you guys are right, we screwed up and we're going to listen to your critiques and fix things' in a sincere way.

I'd read that too, Finder, and, yeah, I like it. I want this show to succeed, and I'm enjoying elements of it, but, no matter what changes they make, I'm wondering whether another plotline based on averting a possible future is gonna interest me. It just seems lazy and repetitive.

I know, I know, what better way to ram home the stakes than a visit to a horrible future world, but, I dunno...

Perhaps determined to always play the malcontent, I find the apology more frustrating than anything else. Mostly because my complaints about Heroes hasn't been about the individual plots or characters--it's the way the writers keep doubling back on themselves and changing things without reason or consideration.

Now, obviously, I'm not everybody. But this sounds like more of the same. Maybe the writers' strike offers enough time to start semi-fresh and at least semi-coherent?

Was just coming on to say the same thing, much better that one. Nice little touch with D.L. not being killed in the fight we saw last season and a little more about Niki I was under the impression her power was going down a whole twin sister route not multiple personalities.

Coincidence that there was no Mohinder? Hmmmm.

Although - and I hate to say this - I think a chunk of my fun came from Kristen Bell's screen time.

Occurred to me too. Adam's shocking, scene closing line was rather laughable.

Well, you'd have to be pretty stupid not to realize, yeah. But I chalked it up to Peter (1) being all hopped up on goofy-pills—it was established in Niki's storyline that the meds screwed with cognitive functioning, after all; (b) getting his brain fried out by Elle on a semi-regular basis, which again would tend to disrupt the finer elements of the thought process; and (III) being, let's face it, not the sharpest knife in the drawer to start with.

Spaniel
16:44 / 15.11.07
The pills and Peter's hapless dumbness were how I rationalised it. The Elle thing not so much. She didn't seem to be giving him big jolts, just the equivalent of... er... a light whipping.

About the only way they can save the lame "Wonder Twins" storyline is to have Maya go full-on bad and join Sylar in a "let's kill everyone" union of sex and violence. Only Sylar's become such a one-trick character he'll just kill her for her powers...it would be great if the writers gave him a bit more depth (as in his flashback ep last year), maybe had him meet a mutant he DIDN'T want to kill...

Spaniel

Yes, I was hoping for that

But wouldn´t he need to kill her brother too? She can´t control her power, so why would he be able to, if he debrains her? Without the brother´s ability to stop it, this seems to be useless.
