I liked it although I did not love it. Then again, that's how I felt about the first seasons' opening eps and I wound up watching the rest in short order (on dvd).

Best stuff: Ando and Sulu; Hiro and his hero; Mojinder (sp?) and the teaspoon-transmuting fat guy from DEADWOOD; HRG's finger technique.

Worst stuff: those thugs' oirish accents would make Dyck Van Dike blush with shame!

I really hope they bring back Linderman, even if in flashback. And Eccleston.

I second the flashbacks.

I liked that out of all the possibilities i had thought about for Hiro in the past it wasn't any of them.

When i saw the fat guy at Mohinder's talk couldn't help myself quoting Groundhog Day "Ned..... Ryerson!"

Interesting storyline with what happened to the brothers. Intrigued how they are going to play it.

Those were the worst fake Irish accents I've *ever* heard.

I don't know, the accents WERE bad, but did anyone else here watch Angel? David Boreanz flashback accent was about the worst thing in the world.

As far as the show, I like that my "Hiro becomes Kensei in the past" theory could come to be correct. A decent amount of set up in there, and a nice little special effect from Peter.

Although I gotta say, the "My powers are a curse and this professor in NY knows about Mutants..er, I mean people with powers, maybe he can cure me!" plot line does nothing for me so far.

Boreanz at least seemed to FLOW with his shoddy accent, but those guys last night were staggeringly blindly into the furniture and breaking grandmother's best china. CRASH!

Worry: this new Big Bad will have some pretty massive shoes to fill to come up to par with Sylar and Linderman. Any word/hint on casting?

Wish List: I find the backstory the most fascinating part of the show, so I'd love to see next year's ORIGINS six parter (if it happens next year) feature a multi-part Company story set in the 1970s/60s when all the "parental" characters were younger. Or at very least one of this season's Origins Eps set in the past.

Having watched season one on dvd in the space of about ten days, it is going to be odd watching s2 + Origins over the span of -- what? -- thirty-odd weeks? I have not watched long-range series TV since the penultimate seasons of BUFFY and ANGEL (Sopranos was a quick 12 weeks every few years, so an easy committment).

Those Irish accents made the Baby Jesus cry. Really, he wouldn't shut up.
It was like Banshee was on telly 3 times at once!

The rest of it will have me watching next week all right.
But leave the Irish alone, we have had enough to put up with, no need for this guff!

Did everyone in the US get those car commercials featuring "Pressure Drop" by The Clash? I'm in LA, and they must have showed six spots (three versions twice). I went for a run today and PD was on one of my playlists and my midn went all zombie-programmified and a flashed back to the car commercial. I hope I am not broken...

Ah, well, at least The Widow Strummer and Widow Toots will be having a windfall year.

I think it's telling that the main point of discussion in this thread is the terrible accents of three minor characters.

Snoozer of an opening, the new characters aren't particularly engaging, I hate that Molly girl and will it come as any surprise to anyone that Hiro will do all of the legendary deeds of "Takezo Kensei" and assume the role himself? Ho hum.

The Oirish accents had me howling at the TV:

"How t'e hell did yez get in 'ere? Who t'e hell air ye?" sez he.
"AND WHAT HAVE YE DONE WITH ME LUCKY CHARMS?" cries I.

Is it because a) they're bad actors, b)the assumption is that Americans won't know the difference between an accurate accent and a poor one, and so they don't particularly care if they get it right, or c) that the actors portraying the thugs only got the script that morning and had very little time to prepare?

I have heard worse Irish accents.
Not much worse, but it only caused minor pain and embarrassment.

Heroes delivers. The addition of the Latino brother and his area-effect instant-death sister - all kinds of tragedy inherent there. I was reminded of Professor X: "...so powerful they're a danger to themselves and others."

EP 2:

Still feels like prologue, getting the cast to the place where the story begins.

I liked Maya's black, drippy conjunctivitis. Also that cnxn to the Big Bad of s2. And the interrogation of Ma Petrelli.

"Hey boyo, why did you steal the iPods I was going to steal and then handcuff yourself inside the container?"

"I didn't, that would be stupid,"

"Oh, well, then what about me lucky charms?"

I agree that it is still prologue. I like the idea of twins with linked powers, but the blood/ooze vanishing was pretty cheesy.

The cast of people with powers is getting a little large now. I wonder if we will find out at some point that Claire had an ancestor in the past who fucked around in Japan for a while. The other possibility is the writers are trying to convey that powers duplicate, since everyone was pretty unique in the first season.

So far, I´m not very fond of this new season. I was already disappointed with Sylar surviving, and now the two brothers are alive as well. Even with the X-Men it would have taken 12 issues until the dead hero/villain returns.

It all feels so recycled and uninspired. Amnesia has been done a dozen times. And what are the chances the guy sitting next to Claire in class also has a power? And the same one as her dad to boot.

And again, they are copying Watchmen. Last season, we had "destroy New York for the ultimate good", this time we have "mysterious character kills off the first generation heroes". Remember the first murder in the first issue of Watchmen? Someone writing Heroes did too.
And when have we ever heard of a white loner guy who likes booze, likes to visit Japan and has a fast-healing superpower? I wouldn´t be surprised, if he shows off retractable bone claws in the next episode.

I´ll keep on watching, but only for the characters, as the story doesn´t look too promising. I agree with Niki and her family being dropped and less Parkman and that little girl would be fine with me, too. I like pretty much everyone else, especially Mr. Bennet. His looming attack on "them" and the return of the Haitian is the best plot so far.

Did you notice, that Claire´s adoptive mother seems more together? Her memory not getting deleted all the time seems to agree with her.

Is anyone seriously surprised that the brothers survived, though? As far as I'm concerned it was always a given.

Not a judgment on the show thus far - haven't seen any of Season 2 - just sayin'

It was clear that Peter can survive, since alternate future Peter survived his big bang with only so much as a scar to the face. But his brother is only a guy who can fly, and he should not be able to outfly or survive a nuclear explosion. Maybe it´s like that Cyclops/Havoc in X-Men. Each brother is immune to the power of the other, so Nathan can just shrug off the sibling radiation.

Oh, and I read about a nickname for the woman from Honduras on another forum today. It´s Mascara of Doom Girl.

OK, ep3 definitely kicked up my interest several notches. Sylar's return was interesting; West's revelation about HRG was a good development; I even liked seeing Nikki and the Kid again; Nichele Nichols looked fabulous.

I even responded to the Petrelli in Oirlande story this time, as well as Hero's 16th century ark - I think the Ando connection elevated it from the prior to somewhat predictable installments.

Very much looking FWD to seeing more of The Nightmare Man.

What aggravates me most about this new season is the Hiro in 16th century japan subplot. It's infuriating at best. Remember, last Hiro saw his pal Ando et al was in NYC, season finale last year, all of them fighting Sylar to "the death." And then of course Hiro got hit by Sylar, and knocked into the past.

Now, we the viewers know that Sylar was defeated, BUT HIRO DOES NOT.

So, as soon as his ass woke up in Japan, Hiro -- the "hero," as he likes to think of himself -- should've been worried about nothing else than getting back to his correct timeline, there in New York, and saving his friends from Sylar.

But instead, what's he doing? Fucking around with a childhood idol in these grating "comedic relief" scenes in feudal Japan.

Now, I understand the half-assed explanation that he's trying to prevent time screw-ups by making his idol into the hero he is supposed to become...but come on! It's implausible that Hiro would so breezily focus on this and not be worried about his friends and the fight with Sylar.

At first I gave him the beneift of the doubt. What with his time-travel powers, Hiro could really spend 20 years in the 16th century, and then travel back to the exact moment he left New York in 2007. But then last night we saw him writing "letters in time" to Ando, telling him he can't return! HOW would Hiro even think Ando survived the fight in New York?? Unless we're to assume Hiro is so cocky as to think HE took Sylar out once and for all?

That being said, the other subplot with the South American twins sucks as well...mostly because of Maya, and the one expression she can make. Check it out, it's like the only expression that actress knows -- like shock and fear mixed with an "I'm about to puke" grimace.

Oh, and the stuff with the little girl, as others have mentioned. I can just see the producers. "We need a precocious and cute little girl to REALLY sucker the audience in! People LOVE that stuff!"

Also, I was curious how Sylar could murder that girl (by bashing her with a coffee cup!?), yet couldn't even move in his chair without screaming in agony?

I keep waiting for something big or cool to happen...but so far this season it seems it's all hype (ie the commercials and their aggressive "Heroes is the Lost of NBC! Catch the mystery!" angle), no follow-through.

Does anyone here, like, actually ever listen to anything Mohinder says in those nonsensical, content free introductory narrations, or, indeed, any of his pseudoscientific* interjections/explanations? I think I'm actually incapable of hearing gibberish like that.

*A term that somehow manages to feel too generous in this instance

"You see, when a mommy mutant and a daddy mutant love each other very much..." SHUT UP MOHINDER!

Episode 3 was a baby step up from the first two. I find West describing the guy with horn rimmed glasses ALMOST as annoying as everyone calling the Haitian "That Haitian Guy" without any knowledge of his origin throughout season one.

What is really bugging me at this point is that we have people scattered over the last 400 years who have super powers, proving that Mohinder's theories through the first season were bunk (that the world was now getting so fucked up people began spontaneously evolving to cope).

I am sure that Micah's NO relatives will have some kind of powers, because they are new characters, and aside from the 'Irish' people everyone introduced this season with a major role is a superhero.

I was not at all surprised that Candace's 'true form' was overweight, although her power working when she was knocked out at the end of season one bothers me.

Is this really long term comic fan cynicism? Do we only dislike things about this show because we HAVE seen it all before? I was really hoping Hiro's time travel crap was going to end last episode, but then he decides to stick around and play Asian comic relief to the 'sexy white guy' they somehow felt the show was lacking.

While the Bennets have been my favorite plot, I hate West as a character, and how surprised should Claire have been that her dad was doing pretty much what she found out he had been doing last season?

I keep watching, because it has potential, but I am getting kind of fed up with it.

Thought it was much better this week, loved the message in the sword. But for the love of christ, stop with the orish accents! It really is ripping me right out of the show. Not to mention that Cork doesn't look anything like that and that Irish security guards, or cops for that matter, are not fucking armed!
But as I say it's getting better. Now bets for how long it takes them to get the Shat himself into the show?

Thought it was much better this week, loved the message in the sword.

So that sword has been around for 300 years. And noone ever noticed that sign "Ando, open!"? Didn´t Ando and Hiro bother to look at the sword they had stolen from Linderman? And what about Linderman himself? It was a prized piece of his collection and he never had the sword examined by experts?

Mark Parsons

Maybe Hiro is like a quantum entangled particle.

Until he went back in time and wrote the message, there was no message to be seen, hence nobody could notice something that was not there. So Present Hiro in the 16th century is directly interacting with his present era/Ando.

(and yes, like every time travel theory/rationalization, mine is shakey!)

On the subject of dreadful accents I reckon that the actor who plays Takezo Kensei obviously went to the same accent school as James Marsters (Spike from Buffy). It would be just about acceptable if it's true that the American audiences notoriously don't know or care about bad accents, but the show has an international audience. We care goddammit!

Sadly, it's only getting worse.

Who else nearly retched when Micah, after applying his magical hand to her back, told his cousin (who OF COURSE also has powers!! -- as does every other new character this season) that he wished he could fix her wishes?

But wow, what a bad episode of television. No mention of Peter, nothing with Hiro (whose aggravating 16th Century-Japan adventures would've been a relief in this bad hour), just new characters across the board. New characters with underwhelming storylines. And what's with the focus on Claire? Flipping through TV a few months ago, I saw the actress on some Teen network, singing at a well-attended concert. Great. So here we have another "multi-talented" actress/singer? I assume she's popular with the tweeners, hence her character getting the most screentime this year?

Granted, I'd have no problem with that...if her stories were at least interesting (as they were last year).

The Hispanic twins continue to bore, their Deus Ex Machina meeting with Sylar is beyond comment, and man...the family Micah's staying with (aka the Uhura clan) seems to have beamed in from some dramedy on the WB Network.

This is the fourth episode where nothing's happened. How long can the show continue to spin its wheels? And who else is 98% certain Nathan is the murderer? Those quick-shot images of his brother's scarred face in the mirror are calling cards for some Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde shenanigans.

Yeah what's the deal with David Anders? He played it English on Alias too, maybe he known for having a great English accent.

I've been watching but nothing much to say it's pretty poor so far, moving into the Smallville/Supernatural sort of leagues.
