Hi, all I recently discovered Barbelith and Temple, so here i am. (no i am not going cut "thyself sharply upon the wrist or forearm with a razor", according to Aleister for daring to utter I.

Uncle Chuckie while sticking to his concept of psionics as a way of making simple machines to 'tune' the mind to the target is in my opinion a chaos magician. He is modern in his approach and his book psychic power is funny and amusing, but why bring him up?

My own occult interests have led me to most of the material available in libraries and online, but in a second hand bookstore years ago i picked up a curious paperback Psychic power by Charles Cosimano. Thinking this was another new age type throwaway, i saw a blurb by John Keel, occultist, magician and fortean writer that held Cosimano's work as valid.
"I suggest you read this book now...before your worst enemy gets ahold of it" -John Keel.

Uncle Chuckie goes from pendulums to 'a psionic' tuneable 'buck' rogers helmet with antenna. What I found amusing is that i ran into one of 'his students', or someone that had read his books on the street. Visiting a friend I came around a street corner and was hit by an energy 'beam' or pulse that caused me to stop and look for where it came from. Now i've been into this interest, occult, magick, tarot, the works for years, and in a way i do practise what i study. This was a very powerful energy pulse -where it came from was an older woman in flowing robes, and a shimmering 'pie plate' tinfoil fin on top -wizard-witches hat. This middle-aged 'witch' had this total look of satisfaction on her face that her 'gaze' had managed to cause me to stop, and spin about searching for the 'psychic wave' because that was how strong it was. Now the friend lived next door to this witch, -she called herself that , and well the block knew not to mess with her. I had forgotten about the 'tinfoil' spaceman's hat until a few years later when flipping through the Cosimano book. Most of his theories, and radionics machines are on his site for free, but I had seen no mention of this guy on the Temple so brought him up. Before i go though Evil Uncle Chuckie as he describes himself has no qualms at all about using magic against others, whether to influence their behavior, dreams or score a sex partner. He also has some amusing 'rants' against world power, and using this stuff against politicians, while watching tv. Like i said a 'chaos' guy if there ever was one. Not to offend anyone i have the impression that Chaos is a term taking in all 'modern' working methods of magic that do not stick to the original grimoires or training methods. Enjoy

I've heard interviews w/ Evil Uncle Chuckie (I *think* it was the R.U. Sirius show) and... while I think his schtick is fun and all, I certainly wouldn't call him a Chaos Magician, no more than I'd call Dean Radin a Chaos Magician.

Now if Cosimano was using CM techniques (or even at least constructing and situating his sci-fi weird science groove as a series of CM or even magical techniques), that would be different... but he's not. He's just into weird science. (Weird science that people seem pretty impressed by in some circles.)

CM is largely about finding things that work, but it's also a meta-methodology for making things work. It's not a catch all for any "modern form of magic".

From what I've heard, Uncle Chuckie has self-identified as a chaos magician from time to time - he's certainly mentioned a few of Pete Carrolls' ideas in some of his work. So if Lucid wants to see him as an exponent of CM, I for one don't see a problem with that.

Thanks for fixing the link, mental health issues, possibly, but she kept the hookers and drug dealers away, so the street liked her around. Now the pulse, it felt like the typical, kundalini energy, orgone, ritual raising of cone of energy. You know the 'white' noise, rush electrical wind with no wind. You sse this at parties sometimes, or psychic fairs, where the 'sorcerers' try and 'send' out their power. A lot of people feel it as the stare on the back of the head -but a lot stronger, electrical in nature. Like a static field that hit the back of your head. So this old bird's fun was in 'startling' people with the 'look', Chuckie claims his devices 'boost' psychic energy. -maybe it did:>)
What amused me was it was right out of Psionics 101 or the updated psychic power by Chuckie. I'm not saying use of tin foil, wire, magnets will boost psychic power. But it's a method in a trickster fun kind of way of getting the deep mind to do something. Cosimano, says as much, it's all in your mind anyway, but the 'fun' gadgets seem to make it work.
I find Chucky's website, and books as fun reads if not only that he gets people interested in the occult. Radionics was big once, if only as a 'way' of accessing the minds potential
As for mythbusters, these are the same guys that built a 'tesla' earthquake machine out of an old hard-drive servo, it did not work -naturally. So they busted the great quack tesla in their opinion. The fact tesla's original resonator was a solid stainless steel cylinder operating, at high electric frequency seemed to fly by their heads. Tesla was as much magician as scientist, his system of creative visualization a perfect working machine in his mind, before he built it seems to be the key. The Prestige film had tesla played by David Bowie, another seeker of occult knowledge. Anyway I thought Cosimano's writings would be of interest on his website anyway. I'm not pushing him as the end all, but most occultist's just read about magic anyway, Chucky has the simple machine crazed school science experiment -except you can conjure, demons, information, power. He even has a 'light' goetia machine where goetic spirit sigils are drawn onto acetate, put onto a 'flashlight' turned on, and the 'sigil' does it's work. I've been meaning to try that with my own home brew stuff. It's all in fun.

You sort of know what you are getting into, -but does his version of esp, psi work? Apart from maybe the confusing story i posted above, his rather cool little book Psychic Power Techniques and Inexpensive Devices published by Llewellyn That Increase Your Psychic Powers, is magick as kitsch in a way, and most people prefer kitsch to 'art' in a way. Sigils are big here, but this guy gets into magnets, pendulums sending out 'ball' type servitors, to do your 'bidding' is refreshing. Why are we here if not for doing what we want to? I don't mind the spoon full of sugar to make the medicine go down, however I think Uncle Chuckie is the equivalent of "do you want some medicine with your sugar?"

Then you're blessed (or perhaps cursed) in that, however I can't help but wonder if it's more a case of you failing to recognize it when it does come back, rather than it not coming back. I've had enough experience with direct karma, (i.e I find a phone and don't answer it when the owner rings, then a week later I lose my phone and the phone which I've effectively stolen, breaks) and indirect karma (i.e I psychically attack someone who upsets me, beyond what is called for, and then I feel like dirt) to think that pyschic energy always comes back.

To me it's like throwing a swimming in a pond; your own arm isn't going to hit you in the face like you've hit the water, but the ripples are going to bounce off something and come back, eventually.

Just open a newspaper, crime, serial killers, corporate thieves, where is the Karma, Universe evening it all out.

You do realise that stories of people not being attacked by serial killers, acts of corporate benovolence, etc. don't sell newspapers, and hence arn't in newspapers unless its a really slow day (or a crappy newspaper)? We live in a world where a picture of Paris Hilton in prison will get some lucky guard a cool half million, however if that same guard were to offer marriage advice to a friend and save a marriage, and that marriage produces a child that isn't a head case, he'll get nothing beyond good Karma.

Karma is cause and effect, or reaping what you sow; it's rarely instant, and like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly it's hard to recognise cause and effect unless you've witnessed the entire process.

Uncle Chuckie speaks for all of us

No, i think Uncle Chuckie is pretty clear that he speaks only for himself, and couldn't care less about the rest of us; I don't like quoting him, because it's not a seed I wish to plant.

Chuckie will probably appeal to maybe a few members no?

I'm sure he will; he appeals to me in regards to his magic, however not his mysticism. Even though both of which seem poorly thought out, they can still be learnt from - I just wouldn't use his works as corner stone is all.

Why are we here if not for doing what we want to?

That's a fairly ugly, grasping attitude to take towards your time on the planet though isn't it? I think we are here to live according to our nature, to accomplish our Will certainly, and to find peace, enjoyment and happiness in the fulfillment of that. But I don't think that is necessarily the same as "doing whatever we want to". I can think of many examples where what I might want to do, in a moment of anger, for instance, is not necessarily the best course of action or something that will really make me happy in any true sense. I try to live according to my nature, but part of that is recognising how some of my short term wants and desires are more the product of external conditioning, defensiveness, reactionary impules, and so on, than they are a real expression of my own nature and Will. For me, when I approach hoodoo conjure - which is certainly as direct and effective as anything in Uncle Chuckie's ouvre purports to be - a lot of the time it becomes a kind of platform for seperating out what are expressions of my Will from my passing wants.

Okay maybe i was teasing with the 'no price' to pay for occult craziness. Regardless of what is done, i think it comes down to the system used. Chuckie was missing from here so i brought him up.

I mean if I work something i'd expect a special hollywood style effect of something 'spooky' showing up at the foot of the bed if it goes bad. Instead it's more mundane, a visualization dream working, that came back -hard to the point it 'stuns', after working some mischief on a new girl i met:>), Turns out she had some experience in the occult, i got a rather nasty surge back. Using subconscious work on another 'wish', getting it, and the car 'dies', so i got what i wanted but ended up walking home. Scaring friends with ghost tales, only to have one show up to return the favor after a tragic accident, in the spirit, in classic poltergiest, -poke you hard, to startle you awake. The dark nights of the 'soul' where nothing works, and reality is really dull and boring, and it seems like giving up all 'occult' work is the 'adult' way to go in life. I've had this idea, over the years that normal sane people when confronted with supernatural or paranormal work would become more 'intelligent, moral ethical in the idea that -if this works, then the world, and universe is a bigger place than we think. The left hand dark brother path, being the crazy criminal element at work, more rarity than the norm. Kids into drugs and death metal killing one of their own, darker lodges full of mean spirited old men trying to control business, politics the local sphere. No i'm not hinting at Masons, wherever there are lodges, the local library is usually well stocked with occult books, both old and new.

Right. To drill down a little. My issues with this so far:

1) It depends on one of those "invisible powers" assessments of magic - you know, where instead of a measurable or tangible thing happpening, one instead feels a great power, communes with Crowley's spirit, weakens the Goetia on the astral plane or similar. We are then told that the old woman who generated this invisible pulse keeps the hookers and drug dealers away, but again I don't know how that is instantiated or indeed where it came from.

2) The question "is x a chaos magician" is not actually a question the answer to which gives me much information. It reminds me of the many threads at the birth of the Nexus earnestly discussing whether bloke x was "invisible".

3) I think there is a question mark over the ethics as outlined here of Cosimano, and indeed of using magic to get sex generally, if that's what Lucid A.I. was seeking to do with this young magical lady. We've been over this a few times, mind. If this is a practice that appeals to the young man in all of us, maybe that young man should not be using magic. A self-interested interest in karma should not be the only argument against.

4) The belief that Mythbusters did not disprove Tesla in a satisfactory fashion is not necessarily relevant to the treatment of Cosimano. Although if Cosimano were played by David Bowie, this would be a different kettle of fish. My personal practice is based mainly around Jareth, King of the Goblins.

5) So, I suppose that I am looking for anyone here who might actually have done something according to Cosimano's principles and achieved some reasonably quantifiable result which was enhanced by the tinfoil hat.

Lucid, dear, whilst I relate deeply to your desire for love and connection to your fellow humans, just from your *own* perspective I wonder if you can think of anything creepier than being loved by someone that you have cast a spell on to bring about said effect? Wouldn't it bother you, after the sweet nothings had been muttered deep in the misty evening by your spiritually caged partner, that essentially you would be dealing with the love of a sort of human inflatable doll?

"Don't do anything with magick that you wouldn't so with your own two hands." Or in this case, with your own two hands and some Rohypnol.

And Cosimano? Sure, he apparently IS a Chaos Magickian, but does that make him worth talking about? Not really. There are lots of assholes with a large selection of asshole assisting tools in the world, someone being a magickal asshole doesn't make them any more interesting. I've never understood the appeal of Uncle Chucky.

all I want 'explained' to me is the 'use' you're putting the 'single' quotes to in your 'posts', because it's completely unclear to me what you're quoting, emphasizing, or...or...what.

as for the rest - tin foil hats! that's what I fucking joined Barbelith for, years ago, was people writing about tin foil hats. it's been a big disappointment for me generally, though I hear there were some awesome lizard pedophile theorists here in the distant past.

Also worth noting that Lucid A.I. has not yet revealed precisely how he was seeking to ensorcel this young woman, although there are admittedly not very many good options here. Never forget that right and wrong are false ideas, born of the fetid imaginings of those whose only desire is to have all men conform to their ways. and I'm not given great confidence by his writing style. Describing the psionic helmet he says all you have to do is put on the helmet and think, getting a real clear image in your head of what you want to send and the helmet will automatically grab the psychic stuff as it comes out your head, run it around real fast and then shoot it out the top blasting it's way to the target.
