Well we have to bring them back to get our fix of Wolverine's Slashes!
I would find interesting if they'd kill a character like Wolverine (that wouldn't be replaced by another generic feral Wolverine-type dude that every team now seems to have) or Mags and Charles for good (or at least for about 10 years). That would certainly bring a new dynamics, in a brave new world where there's a huge gap and constant reminders, statues, triggering desires to look at the past stories etc; I'm sure Captain America's death is being treated more like Superman's own weary attempt in calling attention to himself (he's such a dick he probably has done something like that in silver age covers, like a 8 year old, "oh, your saviour is dying, oh" - opens one eye to see if anybody is looking or coming towards him to take care of him like a sick baby, "I'm DYING! oooOOH!").
I'm sure a good treatment on something like that would bring me to read the character's old stories, and possibly create some enlargement of the particular brand's cult, at least inside comic-world. I'm sure there must be a better way to sell something other than "feral studs are in this summer, put him in all covers"/ "can I kill him? yeah, patriotism is way too much 'your grandpa'".
'Cause otherwise, even if a character stays dead for 12 months, it strikes no difference from those silver age lying covers saying "this issue our hero must and will die!" (he fakes death, or takes a romeo&juliet potion or whatever)
Or maybe I'm just a bit on a hang-over for having recently watched Deadwood. Somehow, Wild Bill's death there (and his absence being so constantly solid and present) felt similar in my head with Jean's first death. |
