"Why won't I stay dead?!"

(Ok, so maybe my recent attempt at Wizardworld variety humor failed to catch on this Vertigo forum, but this I believe is indeed a noteworthy topic because well, it's ------- after all, and no, I don't think this person is who some you think it is!)

Having recently come back from the dead is no justification for those shocking nails. Whoever they are, they should really reach for an emery board before trying to take over the world.

So who are they anyway? Are they the Scarlet Witch?

Xorn.

Looks vaguely like Magneto if he was deformed and running his fingers against a cell wall for a few years, so who else would it be. The scarring's where his head's still healing together.

And in the background, that's Legion and the dogfaced S-Man from Earth X carrying someone in a homemade Robin costume, probably Sammy. Once you posit Xorn, the rest just kinda falls into place.

Isn't that the dude from Seinfeld that used to be the best in hand modeling before George, but had no control over himself (wasn't master of his domain) and only him and him alone was good enough to receive his love, until finally his hands became disfigured claws?

(seriously though, I thought it was that Kane from Spidey's clone days)

(and concerning this thread: "?")

And does anyone else look at that and hear Jon Stewart's Dick Cheney-Penguin thing: "Gah! Gah!"?

Is there anything that can be done with this thread to counter the impression that the Comics Forum is to the rest of Barbelith as the Cursed Earth is to Mega-City One? Or that its recently added new moderators are as useful and well-appointed as the Mayor or Hartlepool, had the Mayor of Hartlepool been an actual monkey?

I was under the impression that this thread, previously under a different title, was to be locked.

No, it's a new thread, and it's not anymore a caption contest, but just another topic for discussion...

(I really thought it was Kane from Spidey's Clone Saga)

Encase it in Boing perhaps?

What do you propose, Flyboy?

At the moment it is a loose thread about a story-arch about to commence, but nothing wrong with it except it's looseness. It belongs in this part of the board - perhaps tightening it up is in order.

Who are the creative team behind this title?

What does bringing back the character mean to the run?

Is anyone suprised?

Fucksake

This is bloody Conversation stuff through and through, it just happens to be about Comics.

Why does this shit keep appearing?

So, let me get this right: the comics forum is somewhere where mutants and outcasts live free from the fascist police state of the rest of Barbelith?

Doesn't this belong to some bigger storyline already dealed with in any other thread/ artist/ any other relation that could take there and get it over with?

Benny the Ball

Do people want this moved? Or deleted?

Moving to conversation seems to be treating conversation as a dumping ground for those threads that people don't like, which has been a sore point in the past. It is about comics, it's just not very focussed.

Is anyone suprised?

I guess I'd add 'does anyone care?'

Which is not to be needlessly dismissive, but, well, it was certainly the first question that leapt to my mind.

I suppose 'Is there any reason why I should care about the return of a minor character any particular Marvel comic?' is a better question.

What's the hook? Why should I buy this book?

I don't see what's wrong with discussing the fate of a guy what be so obviously Magneto, though?

Mug Chum
11:08 / 22.05.07
I don't think the thread is a big deal in either bad terms or good terms, unless it iniates a thousand others threads like it (someone dumps a cover, no mention of nothing, no pretext for discussion, or anything else).

I mean, even if I was interested in Magneto's(?) return, or whatever else like it ('cause the board isn't made for my particular comics taste only), I'm sure at least the kick off could have been better (c'mon, threads in the conversation area start out with more to play with).

Well, people get upset when we delete threads. Conversation is considered kinder.

If I understand correctly, this thread is about an upcoming story arc of the Brubaker's Uncanny (?) X-Men. If somebody can a) Explain that in the title and b) explain why it needs a thread to itself, then we can go. Or if there is some actual virtue in discussing this character independently of current treatments, like those wonderfully homoerotic threads on the character of Batman, we can go with that.

How much more full circle can this pattern go. We know that dead doesn't mean dead, we know that people come back, we know that characters make comments about people coming back.

Why does the cycle exist? Is it that comic book companies are looking for short term high sales over long term fan investment? Does shock and awe moments make more impact in the news than actually being good? Captain America made it to the news, Superman made it - it's obviously big news to kill off a character - but why do they do it?

um, so who is this supposed to be on the cover? Really?

And I really have to go with Boboss on this one. Kind of a pointless thread, esp. since there was already a previous, even LESS focused, version of it prior to this one.

we're a Vertigo forum? News to me.

Well, yes. People see the name and think that we are:

a) A chaos magic forum
b) A forum run by and for Grant Morrison
c) An Invisibles discussion group

It's an increasingly irrelevant name, which is harming the mix and the quality of Barbelith.

So. Do any of the four moderators of this forum who have so far visited and commented on this thread feel like doing something with it? Or any of the other comics moderators, for that matter?

Why didn't I do anything about it? Because I'm fed up to the back teeth of requesting moves and deletions and having them rejected.

After the last slew of shi-ite threads it seemed like there was some kind of agreement to let threads like that slip off the page.
