Shiny: Well Over Thirty
18:23 / 21.05.07
Hmmmm, Shiny and drugs can probably still fit one or two weekends a year, If I can have the Monday and possibly the tuesday as well off work, but I couldn't do the weekly or even monthly getting wired thing anymore - the recovery period is just too great these days. Hell I can't even cope with a four pint hangover with any regularity these days.

I think this level of occasional partying is probably one I'd like to remain at for many years to come. Even if the couple of times a year really only serves to remind me that I'm not actually missing out on that much.

When I posted this I nearly included some snarky remark about how the thread was inevitably going to be overrun by Barbelith people saying how happy they were to be old and stay in every night with their slippers, World of Warcraft and soup. But then I thought "No, Flyboy, that would be wrong. Not to stereotype the board so!"

Were you wrong, though?

For that matter, are we—am *I*—wrong?

I miss my early 20s. Going out several times a week, feeling hopeful and excited every single time. Absolutely convinced that I would meet the love of my life, or at least someone really great. I was so positive back then.

Now it’s 'But if I don’t go out, I will never meet anyone.'

And then I go out and don’t meet anyone.

I still love the music. But getting up from the sofa at 10pm to go clubbing can be a real struggle; especially when you’re all cuddled up with a book, a cuppa, a cat on your tummy and the other one on your legs.

I stopped going to clubs unless really, really in the mood (or forced to) ages ago, but I always still go to parties/drinks/birthdays if I possibly can - mainly because parties are far less of a pulling thing than a meeting people thing, and I don't think I have ever come away from a party (however crap) without having met at least one interesting person, had an interesting conversation, or learned something useful (such as that red wine and coke together tastes quite nice ...)

Dinner and parties I am less into, because of the inevitable hostess stress, and my own picky food awkwardnesses. Cocktail parties with nibbles, on the other hand, are practically perfect in every way. If I'm handed a nice drink and allowed to smoke inside (or even on the balcony/in the garden) I'm in hog heaven, basically.

I should add that I have never pulled (or tried to) at a club, whereas I've got a much better record at parties. For a start, you can see people's faces and hear what they're saying, and if you're a rubbish dancer that's OK, because it's not the sole possible means of communication.

At least at clubs you can flee onto the dancefloor if you run out of things to say.

I haven't been to a party in years. I'm far too scared of ending up in a corner on my own, looking really uncomfortable and out-of-place. And of course you need to get invited to these things.

The vast majority of parties I've been too I've tagged along with mates

World of Warcraft and soup

That's World of Warcraft and booze surely? Or am I doing it wrong?

I love parties, dinner- or after-, for all the reasons Whisky gives and more. I still like festivals (small ones) because even if you get bored you can lie around in a sunny field which isn't too taxing. I think it's just nightclubs, and I think I never did like them, it just took me ages to realise.
My problem is also that I don't have much of an urge to meet people anymore. I already know lots of nice people and don't get to see them enough, I'm not sure I need more friends so I can feel guilty about not ever meeting up with them.

I do wish people had more house parties. I used to love having them; the only reason I don't now is because I live in a thimble.

Ah, the wonderful night when my house ended up being descended on by two meatwagons, two squad cars and two fire engines. I'm still not entirely sure what happened, but I know acid was involved and I ended up getting evicted.

People should have more parties. I love parties.

You kind of need mates to be able to do that...

Sorry, I'm being grumpy. I've just become increasingly concerned over the last few months that if I lose interest in clubbing I will turn into a total recluse. It'll just be me and my cats in front of the telly on Saturday nights. For the rest of my life.

I don't enjoy clubbing as much as I used to but I feel I have to make the most of it while I'm still reasonably young and reasonably good-looking.

Life is so depressing.

Yes, house parties are just as good as going out. There's usually more kissing as well, because of the locks and the walls.

Um, er...

Tramp: 23 etc ... I am going back to university this September in a hope to become more like Lecto. Fact.

A lot of the people who haunt the star and garter are at least 26. One of them was telling me they stay young-looking by bathing in the blood of Lilly Allen or putting special hipster acid on their faces or something.

In any case we should all move to France.

I find it disturbing and yet pleasant to be in bed by nine pm most nights. Even the nights where I do out and drink, I tend to be home by nine or ten.

I've not seen the backside of anything past one am in ages.

I haven't been to bed before one for months. I *like* staying up late, I like music, I like drink and drugs, but I also like the internet, playing cards, being able to change the music if it's rubbish, etc etc.

House parties are clearly the way forward.

Jesus, yes france is nice.

Best night was had in a boat moored in the Seine. 'Batofar'. It was like being in a sweaty little tug with awesome techno and champagne confusing the senses. It was like that because it was that. France yum.

And i'm just being morbid and moaning. Can't take the drugs anymore and feel a bit flimsy for it. But i can still dance sober; And pretty damn good.

Shame dancing ain't cool.

Sitting around with friends, we all sound like old people when we talk about drug heydays. Now, all any of us do is drink.

...but if you brought Bible Stories Accessory Pack 2 or possibly The Dinosaur World (With Interchangealbe Tails), and added those sets to the rest of the Fuzzy Felt, it wouldn't matter if you were Fred West.

I've not slept since Simian Mobile Disco's gig and stink of poppers. I thought I'd bring you back these trophies from the very front of the floor, where I was squeezed up against all manner of bastards and brutes.

When Simian Mobile Disco play, the computers are central, arranged on a ring table like the TARDIS control panel. They hover round like daddy-long-legs' flicking switches and plugging shit in. It's a whole new way of performing, methinks.

And look at that hair!
