Of course, watching a bruised yet foxy Fillion driving a vintage Dodge Challenger was really quite the sexiest and manliest thing I have seen in months.
HEY!
Manjealousy aside, I haven't seen Drive, not likely to -- I'm a steadfast opponent of cars and "car culture," so I can't see myself finding anything in the show to love -- but on the subject of the Whedon Curse:
What do you do with a Whedon veteran?
Most Whedon stuff relies more on the writing than the acting to make it shine, and Whedon seems to have a talent for casting characters who complement his two-note characters very well. I loves me some Buffy etc. just like everyone, but it doesn't exactly require brilliant depth -- just the ability to hit the grim/flip switch at the drop of a hat. I like Nathan Filion okay, I just can't see him in other shows, because he fits a very confined space of can play serious/can play comedy, but he's sort of inextricably both. I can't see any Whedon vets doing straight comedy or just dramatic acting, because they've spent their careers to date doing "dramedy," which now that Whedon is out of TV might get them work if somebody decides to revive Hooperman. |
