I shall be using gender specific pronouns here to indicate *perceived* gender specificity.
Haus always makes me envision a huge steel pyramid floating a metre above ground capped with a huge array of black, glistening camera lenses instead of an eye. The surface of the pyramid is polished to mirror-smoothness. Underneath, the air vibrates like heat haze.
Olulabelle is a 6 year old girl with pink hair and pink eyes and pink trainers and a knowing look, riding a tricycle which also hovers in mid-air, for some reason, with long ribbons attached to the handlebars that trail out weightlessly behind her.
Our Lady of the Steel Uterus is five metres tall and dressed in a lacey grey wedding-dress cunningly wrought from iron. Her face has clean Grecian lines and is made of white clay (presumably the rest of her is too), and is traced with fine cracks like in porcelain or the desert. Her eyes are black, like a shark. She stands very still, mostly, with her hands folded in front of her.
Henry's rather dashing in his tux (at least, today he is) with the top button of his shirt undone and his bow tie slung carelessly about his neck, waving his almost-empty bottle of champagne about and accidentally spilling it on people in the most charming possible way. He has a mop of blond curly hair which defies style.
Flyboy is another hoverer. (Please don't ask me why the hoverers hover. They just do.) Ze's a Culture drone, actually, about a yard across and shaped like a black and silver smartie but ze's totally encrusted with gadgets like propellers, pop-guns, mousetraps, catapults, weather vanes, boxing gloves on springs, lasers, machine guns, missiles and little trapdoors from which cuckoos, flags saying "BOO!" and whirring blades spring forth alarmingly. Ze has blu-tacced a stripey schoolboy cap on top of hir housing at a jaunty angle, to show ze's friendly and doesn't really mean it.
Quantum Trollslayer/Bumblebee is like one of those Yes/No Bit things from Tron but made of billions of all different coloured wiggly lines of light instead of planes and angles that somehow interact with each other like Lissajous Curves to make the shape of a bumblebee or a trollslayer depending on what ze is being just now. At rest, ze's a complicated platonic solid stellation of similar lines.
Rizla_mission is a woman with zig-zaggy black hair and coffee coloured skin wearing combats and boots, an ochre top, and coloured scarves. She grins and smokes lots.
Jack Denfeld looks a lot like Captain America without the costume. He has a rakish look about him and a scar on his chin.
Matt Shepherd looks EXACTLY like my friend Matt Richardson.
Talks to Strangers is a strange, pale ghostly thing that looks as if a human shaped hole has been cut out of the world like a door through which can be glimpsed a stark, foggy landscape with only vague hints as to its features, perhaps that shadow is a tree, perhaps that line is the side of a building... despite which, this place looks more real than the real world, as if our world is grainier, like an old film in comparison with it.
EmberLeo is another girl, about 16, with golden hair and golden skin. She glows softly and wears a black velvet catsuit. When she speaks, bonfire sparks float out through her mouth and drift outward.
Lurid Archive is male, looks about 60 and wears a well-cut dark brown suit. His skin is made of stained glass. The glass panels are many-coloured and they join with each other at hinges so the skin can move. His eyes are like kaleidoscopes. His hair is a cap of carved, filigreed quartz. Mysterious lights dance about inside him. The glass panels range from very tiny at the "wrinkles" in his lined face, to about the size of the palm of your hand, all angled nicely where his body planes are flat. The hinging network holding them together is made of some kind of black metal and is quite stylised, suggesting Art Deco or Rennie McIntosh, particularly about the face. His handshake is warm, like touching a kettle.
And I already know what Stoatie looks like cos he puts pics up of himself. He looks exactly as I imagined him. |
