Boredoms: Super Roots 1 (30 minutes of The Boredoms shouting, farting and hitting synthisers. Maybe it'll grow on me.)

I wouldn't count on it. To be honest, I really don't like all that early Boredoms stuff. It's yucky.

I haven't made it to the new Rough Trade yet, but to continue the generally negative vein of this post, these guys all seem to be thoroughly unimpressed.

Nuneaton Savage: An issue of Plan B that I also brought that day confirms that once again, you residing at home in Correctly, Correctington. Is all the rest of the Super Roots series shit?

Bandini:But in general you'd really rather have repress vinyl in a shop than second hand?

I kind of think of a new record shops and second hand ones as fundamentally different beasts, and for me, Rough Trade has always been about great new (or at least first hand) stuff.. Don't get me wrong, some second hand shops are awesome (or were awesome, as they all seem to be going to the wall) but lots of em are full of crap or the stuff is so pricey as to render it unreachable. I've don't recall seeing any "new" record shops with impressive and useful second hand sections where I'd want to spend my money.

Rizla: That thread you linked to really annoyed me. Christ, people love to fucking moan, don't they? I want to join just so I can shout at them DONT GO OUT THE FUCKING HOUSE THEN YOU SPOILT MISERABLE TWATS. Y'know, don't support an interesting new enterprise, don't accept teething problems but just fucking bitch about it about not being able to get exactly what you want at the exact second you desire it, like an overpriveleged c***, and contribute even further to the record shop going to the wall.

They remind me of people on fucking ILM who download everything new straight away and bitch about how slow albums take to leak and slow downloads speeds are. Nggh.

Sorry, Sultan strange unspellable name, missed your post. Thanks for the tips!

I think you should do that, would be most enjoyable.

Probably they'd collectively say "fine then, we won't. Easier to order off the internet anyway blah blah blah..".

Worrying though that I've yet to come across anyone balancing out that viewpoint by saying the new Rough Trade is great...

I don't think it's great but I do think it's a good enterprise, worth supporting, and one that will get better. You are dead certain to find some stuff in there that you're after, as well.

I particularly liked the post about what's-her-name's 'nightmare experience' the other day. What could have happened, I found myself wondering? Had there been a power cut, which meant everyone was trapped in the shop for a couple of hours with Billy Bragg, who'd proceeded to keep everyone's spirits up with an impromtu greatest hits set? Or something even darker? I was hoping, in any case, for something a bit more interesting than her tale of woe about not being able to find the records she wanted.

It's frustrating when that happens, sure, but it's hardly the stuff of nightmares.
