Farewell Ganesh. I've enjoyed reading your posts for a long time now and feel sad that I won't be seeing any new ones.

In general I've been much more of a reader than a poster (at least of anything relevant), and I've always enjoyed reading Ganesh's posts, frivolous or otherwise. I've said too many goodbyes recently, so I'll say adieu Ganesh instead.

why are they leaving now?

One significant reason: complete inability of the board to change...

Sorry to see you go man, see you around.

It saddens me, reading older threads in Comics for example, that Ganesh used to be a presence there in a way he's never been since I joined the board. It's sadder still that he won't be here at all.

It's certainly a Sign of Barbelith changing. Though what it's changing to is still unknown.

I would actually say that it's a sign that Barbelith isn't changing, and can't change.

752 will be missed. Used to be quite the regular, and a contributor to a lot of threads. The explanation was kinda weird, because I don't know if they were leaving for personal reasons or because of not liking Barbelith anymore, but then I started thinking if it was personal there wouldn't really be a need to scramble your password and not give yourself an out if you wanted back in. Sigh. Good luck Ganesh, I'll miss you.

Oh no no no, that’s no good. I’m only a lurker but I’ve been lurking for seven years and this is like losing a member of the family. Big Brother without Ganesh?? Summers will never be the same again.

All the best.

Surely Dr. G will be able to visit during BB? I have a spare identity I can lend you if you are doing that thing of scrambling your password and deleting your ID, Ganesh, just in case.

Not that your willpower doesn't have the strength of ten, or anything.

Well, on that - and in response to the last bit of Flyb's post - Ganesh has been on-and-off on the board for a least a couple of years, bar the BB threads. He's also taken a number of extended breaks from the place.

And it's sad that he's left for good, yeah - when I originally first started posting here, all wide-eyed and naive to the point of stupidity, G was one of the guys who put up with that and helped get my head around the discussions that I was bumbling around and probably being quite annoying in. But I'm not going to start trying to ascribe his leaving to any particular thing on the board, because he's pointedly refused to explain his decision - as is his right, obvs - and making out that he's left because of this or that is both unhelpful and likely to be inaccurate.

So yeah. Shame, but if you feel it's time to be not here then it's time to be not here. I can respect that. Good luck for the future and I hope to see you around.

Freshly back and so quickly saddened.

When I first stumbled upon this board back in 2001, and for a few years after, Ganesh was one of the lynch pins of this whole thing. Always informative or humorous, often both.

I raise a glass and wish him good travels.

Goodbye to Ganesh then. I won't say it sucks because people have a right to their decisions, but I will say that I feel saddened to hear of this.

My only regret is that I won't get Ganesh's input into the thread I plan to start discussing The Lucifer Effect, Philip Zimbardo's new book on the Stanford Prison Experiment and his work as an expert witness in the Abu Ghraib trials.

Well, that and that he wouldn't let us load his barbecorpse onto a gelignite-packed tube train and point it in the direction of Millarworld, but that's probably just me.

So where the hell is Xoc???

And Goodbye Ganesh. I'll always remember that time you made fun of me for offering up a new idea. And I still think a goddamn food forum would have worked!

All the best. And don't forget to keep it real.

Losing Ganesh's contributions here is like Barbelith losing a limb. The phrase: "Cut off their nose to spite their face...", comes to mind, but I am sure this isn't a spiteful decision. However, it does change the face of Barbelith in a significant manner.

You will be greatly missed, Ganesh. I really wish you didn't feel this way but I do have to respect your choices.

Best of luck to you, always.

It's not really possible to know what factors initiated Ganesh's leaving. In my view it'd probably be best to respect his decision not to go into specifics and avoid speculation on the matter.

That said, who wants to put money on him being Dermot's replacement for the next BB?

I'm definitely going to miss his contributions to the board. He was something of a stabilising force when things got a little heated.

Sort of an elephant-headed Galahad.

Yes, of course, Evil Scientist. I was making a clumsy joke about losing a nose.

To be honest, I'm not even sure I like this place withou Ganesh. Of all the people who called on me for my occasional stupid comments, he was by far my favourite. And I say that without a shadow of sarcasm...

Xoc's been gone a while now too, yes?

where did Xoc go

He's posting infrequently under his old screen name "Zocher"

And now even if he didn't want people to know that, they most certainly do!

Eh, it didn't occur to me that anyone would attempt to hide in plain sight like that, but, yeah, I suppose it's a possibility. But you know this is a public space - if someone really wanted to track down Xoc they wouldn't have to try very hard at all.

I'll bring it up in Policy, but without naming any names.

Well, they would probably be able to work it out from the appearance of the name "Zocher" to the left of his posts... I don't think he has gone stealth, assuming he is still around - he changed back to Zocher a good while ago, IIRC.

And apparently I hear toksik is on sabbatical also. Strange to think of the sheer volume of posts the two represent...

Olulabelle
15:35 / 21.03.07
It was only that I just noticed him posting as Zocher but with no 'prev' and I wondered if it was a deliberate move. If he'd waited 28 days or whatever, what with Ganesh leaving. Thas'all.

ONLY NICE THINGS

It's possible, but I think he posted as Zocher talking about Ganesh a week or so ago. Anyhoo, what's said is said.

Either way, would still be very easy indeed to link the two names together. Very, very easy.

Ganesh, you have the best email address there. Godspeed sir, may your enemies fall before you like wheat before the scythe, may your years be many and your worries few.
