Uncertain Smile solo: genius. (Who did the piano solo on the Pet Shop Boys' I Want A Dog, which I've always thought sounded similar? Anyone know?)
Reason to hate Jools Holland: I was told by a guy who runs a music festival that if you book Jools to play, it will cost you £60,000. No matter what. If not one person comes you'll pay him. After that, you're allowed to make £10,000 profit. Over and above that profit, Jools keeps 80 per cent.
Yeah. Eighty-fucking-per-cent. So if the festival makes £110,000 profit, the organisers walk away with £30,000 and Jools makes £140,000. Just for grinning and having musical mates and some kind of freakish piano ability.
(I also quite liked the last couple of episodes of The Groovy Fellers, where it went totally crazy and fourth-wall breaking. But that's irrelevant to this thread.) |
