This is due for release here in Britain in a couple of weeks - in fact, it's down for release on Valentine's day, so, woo - and I don't think there's been a thread on it thus far, so here we are.

From the wiki;

Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is the finest cop London has to offer, with an arrest record 400% higher than any other officer on the force. He’s so good, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, Angel’s superiors send him to a place where his talents won’t be quite so embarrassing -- the sleepy and seemingly crime-free village of Sandford.

Once there, he is partnered with the well-meaning but overeager police officer Danny Butterman (Nick Frost). The son of amiable Police Chief Frank Butterman (Jim Broadbent), Danny is a huge action movie fan and believes his new big-city partner might just be a real-life "bad boy," and his chance to experience the life of gunfights and car chases he so longs for. Angel is quick to dismiss this as childish fantasy and Danny’s puppy-like enthusiasm only adds to Angel’s growing frustration.

However, as a series of grisly accidents rocks the village, Angel is convinced that Sandford is not what it seems and as the intrigue deepens, Danny’s dreams of explosive, high-octane, car-chasing, gunfighting, all-out action seem more and more like a reality.

I've already mentioned that the trailer makes me a very happy bunny, so it's no surprise I fall on the "Going to be very, very good" side of prospective opinion.

Given that Barbelith has thus far loved Spaced quite a lot, and also Shaun of the Dead a fair amount (which is where, I think, Hot Fuzz was last mentioned), would I be amiss in expecting to find other prospective viewers here?

For further info, the official website is here, and contains a fair bit of stuff, including a jukebox understandably heavy on songs containing the word "Fuzz"; there's another website here, and the imdb page can be found here.

So. Excited?

Other than being Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, which on its own almost guarantees comedy gold, the "buddy who thinks he's in an action movie" trope is also a great one... am I the only person in the world who's thinking "COOL!!! It sounds like Bakersfield PD!!!" at this point?

And that's not in any way a bad thing.

I'm a bit worried that an awful lot of the stuff seen so far makes it look like yr traditionally shit English Comedy Film. Small town England gone kerrazzzy and so on. The city comes to the countryside!!1!!onethousandonehundredandelevenpointone!! Big budget The Green Green Grass.

Also: Comedy zombie films are a rare best, and when they do appear they're generally something a bit special. Comedy filth films, not so much.

The trailer made me laugh a few times and it felt good. The laughs I get from this team's work seem of a higher quality to me than other laughs. They are laughs made with love.

I agree it seems very English, and that is their strength. Think Ealing comedies etc.

Anybody else watch Spaced to cheer themselves up, when down?

Seen quite a bit of this already & you're in for a treat. It's excellent, possibly even better than Sean Of The Dead, my trousers are still covered in my own piss.

Only just watched the trailer, and I'm even more excited about this than I was before.

Randy- I get where you're coming from, but are you really saying you didn't like Police Academy: Mission to Moscow? Philistine.

Seriously, I would think like you were it not for the people involved. I trust 'em, God help me, I really do.

I do! I do!

I have been anxiously awaiting this seeing as how I've developed a Simon Pegg crush of alarming porportions in the past few months.

Is their any British TV actor with a twinkle in their eye that you do not crush on?

I have been lending the Spaced/Shaun DVDs to various Spaniards, and they love them. Even missing a ton of cultural references it still translates.

How much did Pegg learn from Tom Cruise about action hero antics?

Just what are you implying? There are plenty I don't fancy. I can't help if the UK produces men more to my taste.

Must go watch the trailer for this now.

Thank you too, Mist, for the link to the proper trailer. There are also a variety of Video Blogs knocking around.

E.Randy: I'm a bit worried that an awful lot of the stuff seen so far makes it look like yr traditionally shit English Comedy Film.

I do know what you mean, but I have to go with Stoatie;

Seriously, I would think like you were it not for the people involved. I trust 'em, God help me, I really do.

Those are my thoughts so exactly that it's scary. If you're in my head, please turn the lights off on the way out.

cog: Anybody else watch Spaced to cheer themselves up, when down?

Not for a while, but I'm tempted to do so now.

Is there any British TV actor with a twinkle in their eye that you do not crush on?

Isn't Kali cute when it comes to British Actors?
It's sweet.

I had a point a minute ago, but it's totally disappeared, now, unfortunately.

Oh yes... The one thing I wonder about is that with Shaun of the Dead, I felt an oddly high level of emotional investment - for a film, for a comedy, etc - out of proportion to what I'd expected.

However, I don't anticipate this with Hot Fuzz, somehow - I may be able to identify with British village / small town life, but I don't know about so much else - as yet. If that makes sense. I'm still looking forward to this with a healthy degree of anticipation, however. And I'm glad other people are too.

Boboss - I tried to get onto the film, but not much luck - do you know the people who did the production sound or the post sound?

E. Randy Dupre- I reckon after you've seen it you'll love it. They'll do for the cop action movie what they did for zombie movies i.e. make a topcopbop like they made a zomromcom.

Kopps does, however, star the nicely named Fares Fares, and his wikipedia entry is interesting, currently;

"Fares Fares (b. 29 April 1973) is a Swedish-Lebanese film actor. He is the brother of film director Josef Fares, and has several times played major parts in his movies (Jalla! Jalla!, Kopps). He has also starred in Bang Bang Orangutang and Kill Your Darlings.

Meh is a verb used to describe the way someone feels aka random. This verb was first discovered by Sir Fares Fares when he declared independence in 2007 from chickens. This word is used normally in random times especially when lazy. Fares Fares used this word to randomly chase away the evil chickens from randomly eating people up. Zac Zanilo a.k.a Zac made UFO and potatoes. THE END p.s POTATO"

Some days you have to wonder.

Triplets - I only noticed that on a recent viewing, to my shame, but it did make me chuckle.

I saw Hot Fuzz a couple of weeks ago at a media screening and it was really well received. It's a much smoother film than Shaun of the Dead and I'll be surprised if it doesn't do really well!

Anyone seen the Empire magazine cover? With Pegg getting equal billing with Bruce Willis in Die Hard 4? Simon is reported to be pretty pleased. Good review as well, they said;
packed tightly with one-liners that you’ll be quoting long after your friends have stopped speaking to you because you won’t shut the hell up.

That sounds about right.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Except that Empire reviews must be read carefully and the spaces between the lines thoroughly explored.
