All this talk of wingmen made me think to post a link back to the "Steve's classic wingman thread" until I re-read it, and realized that Ender started that one... stop the madness you fool!

No, the story of my wingman days is too good to leave on the shelf.

I think the occasional jest would be alright.

Wow.

Wow.

Wow.

Not what I expected (or perhaps hoped for) when I started this thread, but interesting all the same. Sometimes, the portrait paints itself...

I had just passed you when you came back! Now you're 200 ahead!

Oh my. Apparently, I have been posting in my sleep.

...and welcome back! I wasn't implying that it wasn't good to have you around!

Ha! I'm on 2007 posts. I'm not posting again until the new year.

I...

Uh...

Oh toss.

I think you'll find some of those rankings will change just as soon as Big Brother starts up again. At that point Ganesh will pass Haus and the natural order will be restored.

I'd also like to ask (again, wihtout prejudice) whether if you could have those hours (days? weeks?) you've spent on Barbelith back, you'd spend 'em again in much the same way.

Hmm. I've spent a ridiculous amount of my time on here over the last few years, and that's time I'm never getting back. BUT I've met some utterly wonderful people (both online and in real life), and learned a metric shitload of stuff, and had some amazing conversations, and I don't really think I can put a value on that. I'd do the same again, I think.

Indeed; it's a seasonal thing with me. Barbequinox.

It's amazing* how these "ooh, look at the leader board" threads inevitably deteriorate into a flurry of one-word posts.

*in a not-amazing-at-all kind of way.

And yes (ha - qualifier post!), I'm perfectly happy with the amount of time I've spent. I can think of several Real Life experiences for which I'd want a temporal refund but this isn't one of them, particularly. Contributing to the Big Brother threads I consider an integral part of my consumption of modern culture.

(Always end on a pretentious high-note, that's what I say.)

I'm guilty of using Barbelith as a brain extension -- often, things I either want to remember or figure out, I'll post here.

As a new topic.

There's also a happy intersection between things I write about for work and things that get discussed on here for fun.

I am so stealing that for something.

Another happy intersection, then.

I'm actually surprised; since 2001, I've made eight hundred and some-odd posts. I feel like I should have made more - Barbelith had a really deep impact on me when I first found it, and (I think) helped shaed a lot of the way I view the world now.

Apparently, it did all that without me necessarily having to post about it.

What terrifies me is that back around June, I had only something like 600 posts. Now it's December and I'm quickly approaching 2200. What the hell happened in the past few months????

CD Mixes?

I don't think I can blame 1600 posts on CD mixes.

Proper answer:

Barbelith's been really important to me over the six or seven years I've been here and played a core part in each of the major decisions that I've made in that time. It's also been a real source of support for me while I've had to work through the fallout from those decisions.

Simply put, without Barbelith I'd probably be pretty fucked by now. Certainly, prospects for the future wouldn't be looking anything like as positive as they are. So no, I absolutely would not want the time I've spent here given back to me.

I think this might also be why I find myself drifitng further away from the place. I don't currently *need* it as much as I once did.

See, I'm all confused. I thought it was Late Shift threads that bumped my count up. And I don't do those much these days.

I think I just don't know when to shut the fuck up. DAMN. My real life curse has followed me into cyberspace.

ARSE

gah something about the PINK MERRY link has caused my eyes to bleed.
Also is always nice to label such links as NSFW, dear boy.
Not that I don't look at worse at work mind ya, but the other folks might get into le trouble.

Well it depends where you work. Fair enough though, I perhaps should have mentioned THE LINK IS UGLY AND IS A SEX TOY, BEWARE THE LINK OF WINGMAN DOOM.

Love the marketing copy for the 'Wingman':

"Like the Goose to his Maverick - every man needs a buddy"

I wonder if they do an 'Iceman' upgrade?
