um, yeah. there's this show in oz called The Einstein Factor, for 'people who know something about everything and everything about something'. a mate of mine went on last year as a West Wing expert. she won her first show but lost the second to a Dr. Who expert. no shame in that, i say.

so i've auditioned for the show as a spidey expert - thought i should pick something with good geek-charisma that i genuinely know about.

anyway, i thought i could start a thread here for me to practise on. so gimme some spidey Qs and i'll try to hand over the appropriate spidey As.

Ok.

Matsya; how did the incident to do with Gwen Stacy that time really make Spidey feel?

Good, or bad?

Because, as Spidey, he must have had all those responsibilities, and it can't have been easy. So when what ... happened to Gwen happened, wasn't Spidey just a little bit relieved? One less thing to worry about, and so on.

Arguably, Gwen's death fuelled Spidey's (already barely latent) masochism.

Also;

- In what issue of Spiderman ('Amazing' or otherwise) did The Punisher orginally appear?

- Who or what is Madam Web?

- Curtis Connors is really angry about the drugs he's taking, but a)what are the drugs called? And b)what's the name of his wife?

- Why is the so-called 'Spider-Slayer' so intent on it's goal?

- What's going to happen at the end of the new movie?

And finally, why, if Spidey is a scientific genius, is he wasting his time teaching physics to the yout' in the US education system? Much better if he killed them, I feel.

Far better if he murdered them all.

Alex's Grandma
05:05 / 21.11.06
- What is Hammerhead's real name?

- Who was responsible for Pete having six arms that time?'

- In what issue of the Spectacular, the Amazing, the Ultimate, was there a strong suggestion that Spidey was about to embark on a dark love affair with his clone?

(For an extra point; what was his clone called?)

Triplets
05:10 / 21.11.06
Fuckin' hell, Alex Snr, are you sure you don't want to go on the show?

Alex's Grandma
05:15 / 21.11.06
- Wouldn't things be so much easier if Pete simply accepted the fact that Aunt May is an old woman, who has lived a full, if sometimes stressful, and also a lot of the time very tiring, life?

- The Hobgoblin. What was that all about?

Alex's Grandma

Triple O, this is entry-level material ...

Evil Scientist
06:51 / 21.11.06
1) What issue did Spiderman create and use his Spider-Armour? Which villains did he fight?

2) In order of appearance list all known symbiote wearing superbeings.

3) Clone Saga...discuss.

Who were the original 'Secret Six'?

And why did they change?

Who WAS Madame Web? Of all the questions you've thrown out, that one be bugging me the most. She's like some old blind Aunt May on a spider-chair constantly floating over psychedelic backgrounds...right? Why? What? How?

- how come Spidey's eyes blinked in the 70s cartoon?

- why hasn't anybody been succesful in reproducing the webfluid formula? it was invented by a kid in regular Marvelverse, damnit.

Madame Web *is* a mistery; her entry at wikipedia or fansite pages can't cover the whole story. did JMS use her in his run? seems like something that could be tied to the Spider-loas concept.

- What's the name of the formula that gave Ultimate Spidey his powers?

Right...

*cracks knuckles*

I warn you these are quite geeky...

Which creator came up with the idea for Spidey to have web-shooters?

What was Richard and Mary Parker's occupation at the time of their death?

Amazing Spider-Man 196 - 200 saw the first 'Death of Aunt May'. However this turned out to be an elaborate ploy by which two villians?

Where did Uncle Ben work when he first met Aunt May?

Which of these girls did Pete not date; Betty Brant, Glory Grant, Debra Whitman or Liz Allan?

The Daily Bugle office is situated on the corner of which two streets?

What's the Chameleon's real name?

What's the Sandman's real name?

Who is Mark Raxton AKA The Molten Man's stepsister?

Where was Richard Fisk (later revealed to be the Schemer) on holiday when he faked his own death?

Who performed the ceremony at Pete and M's wedding?

That should be enough to get your spider-sense tingling for now.

Yeah, occupational hazard i'm afraid - i'm the Editor of the UK Spectacular Spider-Man magazine. It's kinda scary the amount of Marvel trivia I’ve subconsciously managed to accrue over the past few years...

What, the proper Marvel UK thing? You edit that?

Give me a job. Go on, you know you want to.

Moonfrog1;

It's easy enough to big up the large one on the interweb, but if you are who you say are, really, you'll be able to answer this qestion;

What happen at the end of 'Civil War'????

Dark side of the Moonfrog1

It's all a virtual simulation run by Reed and Tony.

It ends with apocalyptic war, then cuts to a computer screen with Tony and Reed watching. Stretcho turns to Tony and says "See even the computer simulation thinks it's a silly idea. Now lets carry on with our 24 marathon and have no more talk of registration bills." However, Tony then pulls off his Iron Man mask to reveal that underneath it's none other than AUNT MAY!

Dun-dun-DUN!

Erm, no seriously, I have no idea until we get our monthly box of comics in from Marvel US... As we're based under the Panini S.P.A group and are basically a licensee of Marvel we're not privvy to such UNIVERSE CHANGIGN 4EVER!!! secrets.

However, on the plus side I do have more World Cup stickers than I can eat.

Not quite so cool as working on 'proper' Spidey I guess, but it's fun to do and pays the bills...

The same reason he kept squinting throughout the 90s.

Yeah, It's a sweet little story. The Mad Thinker takes control of Dragon Man but Spidey manages to stop him. Unfortunatley this leads to Dragon Man following Spidey around like a lost (16 foot tall, fire-breathing) puppy, leading to much hilarity...

How many people have worn the Spider-Man (or Spider Woman) costume/carried the Spider-Man (or Spider Woman) name in the comics?

I'm genuinely curious about that one. There was the Indian one, wasn't there? And did someone take over the red suit during the whole Venom thing?

Now, why is it that this story sounds a hundred times more entertaining than anything that's going on in the "real" Spidey books right now?
Incidentally:

1.)Discuss your favorite Spider-Man story/storyarc, its major plot details, and why you consider it to be your favorite in 300 words or less.

2.)Including the original spider bite, how many times and to what degree has Peter Parker mutated? What abilities did he gain or loose? Extra Credit, which one do you think is the stupidest and why?

3.)How many clones of Peter Parker have been made?

4.)Which of these four women did not appear in the 90's Spider-Man Saturday cartoon: Betty Brant, Gwen Stacy, Liz Allan, or Debra Whitman?

5.)Who was the first person to be "revealed" as the Hobgoblin?

6.)Vincent Stegron (of "Stegron, the Dinosaur Man" fame") is a former assistant of who?

7.)Spider-Man has known lots of infamous mob enforcers over the years, but which one got superpowers at an Osborn Chemical Plant and is also secretly illiterate?

8.) Name every alias Richard Fisk used before his mum did the smart thing and killed his stupid ass.

9.)"The Shocker" is a bit of a misnomer, as he doesn't electrocute anything. What do the Shocker's fancy gloves actually do?

10.)Who killed Uncle Ben (Flint Marko is not an acceptable answer)? And what happened to that money he was looking for?

Has anybody answered these questions?

I've got one:
MJ's eyes are supposed to be green, yet the colour is often inconsistent. Match the artist to the colour that isn't green. So whoever drew them brown, whoever drew them blue, etc, etc.

Hey moonfrog, do you commision artists and original art for those covers and some of the comic itself, or just pick and choose from what's already published by Marvel itself? I've always wondered about this, looking at the covers and some of what's contained within and not actually recognising who its by.

Yep, all the comic strip and covers are fully originated by UK writers, artists, inkers and colourists (well, apart from the cover colourist - he's Canadian, but you know what i mean).

It's a shame really. Apart from 2000AD, we're about the only UK newstand comic that still fully originates its strip using UK talent.

My current full-time artist is a very talented chap by the name of Andie Tong (and i live in fear of him being snapped up by the U.S., leaving me struggling to find a UK artist of equal calibre and style...)

Check out his blog:

If you scroll down to the bottom, there's some pics form the Dragon Man issue.
