It's just your standard Firebird pose. Wings outstretched, beak wide open in a cry of triumph/pain depending on the situation. I rather like how the tail turned out..

I agree that it could use some work, as I knocked it out with colored pencils in about five minutes.

The smoke is actual smoke. On the west coast they burn debris. I don't know why they burn it instead of recycling is beyond me. And they have a kickass recycling program out there. I dunno...
