I feel that I want to add I'm generally a bit squicked by the the concept of deliberately picking out music to bump uglies to/scene-setting in that way. It's a squick, so no judgement on others doing it.
I have to say that I find that statement genuinely confusing (again, no judgement on you for feeling that way, nor am I asking you to explain or defend your feelings), since for me it seems like the most natural thing in the world (some people light candles, some people play music, etc.). Eh, people are different.
I've never made a "seduction" mix, per se, but I have often chosen music specifically for the intimate atmosphere it creates. I suppose on the one hand it might seem to hamper spontaneity, but on the other hand, the relationships where deliberate scene-setting has played the biggest role were already heavily-negotiated to begin with (poly, D/s), so it didn't stand out as objectionally artificial/premeditated.
That said, the spontaneous "moment of sensory/sensual Kaboom" is a magic all its own, I agree. My original list, above, was mainly of that type (planned "scene" music is a lot more specific, but damn if Dandy in the Underworld doesn't bring it on just anywhere). |
