Oh, and another one: Apart from David Tennant, why do people watch Doctor Who?

Because, when I was six, I believed that cybermen lived in our bathroom. It wasn't a drama, it was a MEANINGFUL REAL-LIFE EXAMPLE of how I could REMOVE THE SCARY FUCKERS FROM MY SHITTER.

Mind you, I haven't watched it for years. Or, at least, I haven't written to The Master and demanded photos for years.

It taught you useful information, trust not men with beards, the army is your friend, don't worry about doing immense physical harm to yourself because you'll just regenerate, if a strange man wants you to get in a box with him, that's perfectly all right.

Loomis went for a drink with loads of Doc fans - I'd not go so far as to say Whovians - the other night, and they actually took the time to miss the first showing (fortunately I have BBC3) and not speak about it to him.

Damn! Duncan has spotted my cunning plan of inviting friends out on Saturday nights to force them to miss this silly show and begin the process of re-reducation, or as I like to call it, deWhovification.

Man, there are sure are some Doctor Who haters on this board.

The reason why I watch it?

Chris Eccleston.

(Remember: I'm in the States and am only on series one.)

Oh yes, and before everyone gets all up in arms, it's nice to rediscover something I watched from my childhood and become reacquainted with the mythology of the show.

Loomis: I think you should apologise for making us miss the Doctor. Fortunately I videod (it's like a tardis for your telly!) it and watched it when I got back from the pub.
I also think we've got the real reason Cube couldn't make it last Saturday.

I thought that too, but cube's on previews is he not?

Loomis, you ain't fooling anyone. I can just see you, dead of night, all the lights out, nothing but the glow of the computer screen illuminating your cautious face as you secretly devour the Barbelith Who threads, head twisting at every noise lest Ariadne stumbles in bleary eyed and catches you indulging your guilty little secret, shitting a brick and scrambling for the speakers when the BBC website blares out "YOU WILL BECOME LIKE US!"

Face it mate, you're well busted.

Captain Jack has indeed come into my life. But the thing is, I don't fancy him anywhere near as much as I do the Doctor.

I have a feeling you're all going to be looking at me funny now...

I DON'T FUCKING GET THIS.

I went to a mate's birthday this afternoon. I turned up early, cos I knew I'd want to get home for Who. And I stayed there until 6 or so. And then everyone ripped the piss cos I wanted to get home in time for Who.

But various other people had been there but STAYED INDOORS, AWAY FROM THE BIRTHDAY GUY'S DRINKS for a couple of hours becaue they were indoors watching football. And nobody thought that was stupid. IT WAS.

It generates a warmth around the stands that augurs well for mankind
Especially if it's K9.
Or if there are cybermen on telly

Man, do you know how much I would love to be able to get the bars I go to to put on Doctor Who while I'm there? Instead, I've got to drink up and get home.

'Course I can just hear it now:

me: "Um, yeah, would you--would you mind turning it to the SciFi Channel please?"

bartender: "WHAT!? Fuckin' baseball's on!"

(chorus of drunken sports fans cheer)

me: *sigh* "What's my tab then?"

I agree. Stupid double standards.

Sadly, not in this city. All of the places I go to--and could possibly go to--not a one of them I can guarantee you will change the telly to let me watch Doctor Who.

All this talk makes me so curious, I´m really close to caving in and ordering this insultingly expensive DVD. I do hope it´s as good as my two favourite british series (LoG and Black Books).

I think TWoP has done a pretty good job of compiling a Doctor Who FAQ.

It's a lifelong quest.

When I die, Heaven will be like my favourite pub. And how will I know which is the best one to spend eternity in if I don't try them all?

Well, I have one favorite place I like to go to around here, but it's better in late afternoon and early evening. After eight, it turns into a sort of meat market. And sadly, I don't think anyone in there would watch the Doctor unless it, say, came on around six or so. Y'know, the hardcore regulars who wouldn't give a toss and probably enjoy it.

I don't mind watching the Doctor at home as long as I have some ciggies and some beer.

I will try Elijah's version of the Sonic Screwdriver.

I once saw David Bowie in a meat market. A literal, actual, functioning market where people bought and sold animals for their flesh. They had gigs on the weekend. Weirdest damn venue I've ever seen a gig in.

Stoatie/Kali, you just need to find a sympathetic subculture.

Was at Bifest last weekend, a bi one day event. In a pub in central London.

At which all-day attendance of many was conditional on the oraganisers having fixed with the pub to use one of the floors for showing Dr.Who. Mind you, I'm not sure the organisers would have turned up either had they not managed it.

Stoatie, for an hour there, last Saturday, we were your perfect pub.
