Loomis-The appeal of that ridiculously bad show is a total mystery and I'm tired of hearing it referenced everywhere from the office to the banter of newsreaders on tele. I'm rather looking forward to a change of subject.

Sax-Yeah, fuck off, Whocentric cunts.

Ganesh-*paints tardis on face, puts metal dog in window, chants 'oo-eee-oooo'*

Me-Bloody Whooligans.

sleazenation-Ah, if ONLY Dr Who dominated the TV screens for 9 months of the year (10-11 months of the year every other year) - if only every newspaper, every news broadcast had its own Doctor who section.

Bear-At last the Whovolution has began. In years to come you'll be seen as a Hero young Loomis.

Quantum: baque in blaque- Makes me want to lean out of a honking car waving a flag and singing
Gallifreee-eeey, Gallifreee-eeey, play awaaay
and
The Dalek team have got no legs, doo-dah, doo-dah and
Clunky boots and silver kit, all the Cybermen are shit and such.

WHO'S WITH ME! (sorry)

Legba Rex- I'M WITH MESSORY!

This Football /Dr Who crossover thing will get really tired really quick. So let's bleed it dry right now! I'm organising a little 'get together' with the Professor Xavier Casuals this Saturday.

God, if I only I could be there.

I say we invent the sonic screwdriver cocktail!!!!

Others have tried, but I don't think just Vodka and Gatorade is going to cut it...

What is all this Dr Who business, I´ve seen mushrooming up here recently? Apart from having read some 20year old comics, I don´t know anything about it. Is it like teletubbies for adults?

Kali, that's what I said. I'm thinking Absinthe white rum and Irn Bru...

I was busting to have the Master come back but then I found out he was in the McGann film, so it's unlikely- booo! Maybe Davros escaped the Tardis continuity rewrite and is plotting revenge at the end of time, I can dream.

Mistoffeles, check it out it's a cult UK TV series that came back recently, and now Wholigans are roaming the streets with big scarves singing rude songs about Sea Devils. who 0wns the 0ther team!

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
15:43 / 11.05.06
Absinthe, white rum, and what was the last thing?

Oh, we could also place bets as to how long it would take any one of us--while drunk--to start talking like Daleks.

Huzzah, tall men in black jumpers! Or as the current case may be, really slick suits.

IRN BRU! Made in Scotland from girders!

Quantum
15:47 / 11.05.06
Iron Brew is made in Scotland, from girders. It's fizzy pop (soda to the US) that tastes a bit like bubblegum.

Oh sweet Lord.

I think after a combo of those three ingredients, I'd be very likely to wake up the next day in the TARDIS.

Me: "Urgh."

The Doctor: "You all right then?"

Me: "Where am I?"

The Doctor: "Oh, no worries. Just traveling through space and time."

Me: "Urgh..."

Quantum
16:01 / 11.05.06
Shouldn't that be in a Dalek voice? URGH. I FEEL LIKE A PIG SHAT IN MY HEAD.

Our Lady Has Left the Building

Ah yes, that well known 24HourPartyPeople which starts with the Doctor taking some pills and ends with Shaun Ryder shitting behind a doric column.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
16:23 / 11.05.06
Ah, yes. It should be in a Dalek voice.

I think I'll do that the next time I'm pissed with my friends. Odds are they'll leave me sitting on the curb, though.

I´ve looked it up on amazon (thought about getting a dvd to see what it´s all about), and it´s very expensive. They want over 12 £ for one dvd, and it´s only got the first three episodes. The complete first series is 45 £!

I have to wait until July 4th to get my own copy. I still have to send raggedman's DVDs all the way back across the pond.

I can do nothing but, Legba.

Oh, except talk in a Dalek voice next time I'm drunk.

Looking at the pics of Tennant on the Beeb's Doctor Who webpage, and I must say: That is one hell of a suit.

I want to try Irn Bru now.

Although wouldn't a Sonic Screwdriver be blue in color, like the tool, rather then orange, like the normal screwdriver beverage?

20 ml gin
20 ml vodka
20 ml white rum
20 ml Cointreau
20 ml blue curaÁao

Build in a highball glass.
Fill with Sprite/7up.

sounds tasty.

Although the special effects sound nice on this one

3 pt lime vodka
1 pt blue curaÁao
Sprite/7up

Build in a highball glass packed with ice.
Get an extra spooky, smoking effect by decorating with carbonic ice.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
17:34 / 11.05.06
Damn, either version sounds tasty. You reckon you make that hummy noise the actual sonic screwdriver does after you've had a few?

Elijah, Freelance Rabbi
18:06 / 11.05.06
I make that noise whenever I can.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh

Imagine trying to explain making that noise to someone on a date.

Why is it that this thread already has 22 replies, although it was begun less than 2 hours ago?

This is as low snark as I can possibly make it. I think it's a myth that people don't really support Doctor Who, that it's sort of invisible. I see it more like something that saturates nearly every discussion or conversation, sometimes invisibly, but at other times (like now) quite plainly. The things that are being discussed here could be in other threads. Indeed, they could spawn threads for decades, and they will -- of course, without the posts by people who might say, "Well, I'm not into Who, but my blah blah blah...."

So, three questions that issue from the really dumb part of me that doesn't understand:

Does anyone notice that this Doctor Who thread includes 'everything'?

Why do Who supporters like to talk about themselves so much?

and

What is Doctor Who? Is it purely a timelord thing? Is it a cultural practice, that includes the domestic behaviours of men that are found offensive by women? Is it a battle of the daleks? Is it biological?

Oh, and another one: Apart from David Tennant, why do people watch Doctor Who?

Because it´s been almost four hours?

I can get my head around traveling through space and time, I can get my head around the regenerating, I can get my head someone "timelord" (and being the last of them), but I can't for the life of me come to grips with how someone can be seemingly named "The Doctor."

Spooky time-dilation effects aside, I don’t quite understand all the bother really…

Do you mean it’s a myth that people don’t support it here on Barbelith or in the larger world? In answer to why people watch it and talk about it, I’d guess it was because it was highly formative for lots of people, for a host of reasons, some of which is getting discussed in the “proper” Who thread. And because nearly everyone likes talking about themselves.

What is Doctor Who? Is it purely a timelord thing? Is it a cultural practice, that includes the domestic behaviours of men that are found offensive by women? Is it a battle of the daleks? Is it biological?

Did you just get up from a nap Loomis? What are you on about? Is there something that I’ve missed about “the domestic behaviours of men that are found offensive by women” elsewhere?

Compare and contrast, Blakey.

Also, more generally: 'Who are you?! Who are you?!'

Olulabelle

I think it is an elsewhere thing. Was it maybe in the Hetero 101 thread? I can't remember.

However, I digress. I would like to pledge my allegiance to Doctor Who, but really only to Tom because he was 'my' Doctor.

Blake Head

Ta. Yeah I remember reading that (he said, backtracking furiously) and I thought Loomis was asking a serious question that echoed current discussion and went a bit incoherent, whereas he was of course just taking the piss, and making me look foolish for attempting to make even the start of a response. Bah!

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

See, that's the kind of tactic the Doctor would use. I think Loomis doth protest too much etc.

The Falcon

Loomis went for a drink with loads of Doc fans - I'd not go so far as to say Whovians - the other night, and they actually took the time to miss the first showing (fortunately I have BBC3) and not speak about it to him. I prolly slipped in a cursory mention of footer to put the counterculturalists on the back foot, selling them a dummy all the way to Germany this summer or something. So, basically, yeah.

What?

Why was Joanna Lumley the only female Dr? I vote for a female doctor next time, in the same sharp suits.
