I'm pretty certain they're real time. If not, Mr Kojima and his team leave no detail untouched because the cut scenes suffer from slow-down when it all gets a bit dense on screen.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that they're real-time too - you can interact with them. The disc doesn't start spinning any faster when they kick in, either, so they're not streaming from it. Oh, and the resolution stays exactly the same.

Gah. You're both dead right, of course. I forgot we're talking about MGS3 - with the interact-y bits. That's a dead giveaway!

Hmmm. Does make me wonder where they're stashing the hi-res models, though. All interesting stuff.

I really hope the new Wii console (Revolution was such a better name) will have a Ninja Gaiden instalment. Just imagine, katana slicing with the new control will be... so... cool!

Apparently when Lucasarts were asked 'so are you going to do a lightsaber game with the new Wii controller' there was a 'no comment' but with knowing smiles and looking from the developers around the table. And they'd be foolish not to, I mean a motion sensing controller with a speaker in it come on .

I think somebody better put Sony on suicide watch. Hot on the heels of their European CEO telling the press that five million people will buy a PS3 at release even if it has no games, so strong and irresistible is the brand, so blind the consumer, comes the news that the company are aiming to fuck over all those people who currently buy second-hand games.

This was suggested before, of course, when it was rumoured that Blu-ray disks would become locked to the first machine they were played on. I've a feeling that this remains true for film releases, but Sony were relatively quick to say that it wouldn't be the case for games. Note that this time around all they're issuing is a "no statement".

Comparisons to Atari become more relevant by the day.

Wow! Do they really want to shoot themselves in the foot or what? Are they not making enough money with the current system? It was my impression that the PS2 made the proverbial "fat stacks of cash," but apparently they must have been bleeding money... Come on, Sony.

I buy almost every game used. The exceptions are Zelda games only, because I feel the need to get a new Zelda the day it comes out. This absolutely kills my desire to own a PS3, and reinforces my Nintendo-love. As much as I hate the Xbox, I may have to buy one for the interesting non-Nintendo releases, as there's no way I'm going to drop the cash on a PS3 if I can't save money by buying used games. I'll be buying my 360 used, of course.

That's utterly disgusting- especially if the "locked to the first machine" thing happens. That's worse than Starforce.

Apart from anything else, what happens if your console dies? Buy a new one... and then you can't play any of the games you've bought.
Bought a new game with wicked two-player action and your best mate has a better TV than you? Better take the whole fucking console round there with you, then...

Jesus fucking Christ.

It's worth taking the story with a pinch of salt, because there's been a lot of scaremongering about the PS3. Thing is, quite a number of the rumours have turned out to be true and itr's already known that the movie industry is talking about some seriously suspect shit wrt copy potection on new home formats, so there could well be a fair amount of truth to this.

Apparently, the official word from Sony is that no, purchased games won't be bound to a single console, but that's about all they're saying. They're most likely still thinking of ways to control the resale market though, because it's a lot of money that isn't finding its way into their pockets.
