What does it say about the state of the American media when Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart are two of the most respected and intelligent figures?
I thought his speech was hilarious. And, hoenstly, I won't be surprised if he ends up 'disappeared' and turns up in Gitmo a few years later or no one ever finds his body. Because he brutalized the administration on a dinner that was, for all intents and purposes, a brownnosing dinner.
What concerned me though was his comment about "that novel about the bold Washington reporter who stands up to a corrupt administration, you know, fiction." As it stands now, the American media doesn't do much to criticize the administration for fear of losing privelege. There seems to be the "Bush is great" camp and the "Bush has made a few mistakes but he's not terrible" camp but there's no option for "the administration has made one failure after anohter so lets analyze them critically and give suggestions as to make things better" camp.
I just await the day when I flip by Fox News and Bill O Reilly has his talking point about "The ability to cure scrofula by touch is necessary for the function of any President." |
