Yeah, Chad, I recognise not a one. Are they all your old school'mates'?

A few old favourites. Look at these turds:

Of recent, I find myself wanting to punch this Raith Rovers fan also:

Dear new members:

As you can see, the aim of Barbelith is to create an online space where the standard of conversation, discussion and debate is higher than anywhere else online.

I have a 'project' in mind for these two...

...a PUNCHING project.

That TV chef smackdown is fucking perfect. The order's correct too.

And that fucker from Placebo. Hold me back.

Her face isn't that punchable but she's such an unpleasant nasty person

I had a weird conversation with someone recently about how we would fare in a fight with Gordon Ramsay. We agreed that he would be quite tough as he is fit and has a fiery temper. On balance both of us thought we could take Ramsay, but I would much prefer it if MacReady could hold him down while I punch his face.

Aye, you'd have to get a nut or two in first. All the while saying "Aye, tell uz about they four terrorist attacks youse foiled, ya lying bastard."

Would that be the Flyboy Award for First Poster to Criticise Anything He Doesn't Like or Personally Find Funny and Bemoan the Falling Standards in Barbelith?

Long have I coveted it.

Do you think Austria would keep him if we asked nicely?

Bemoan the Falling Standards in Barbelith

Would it help if I told you I was wearing my 5-D fiction suit when I started this thread?

Mordant, the question is, do you think Australia would punch him if we asked nicely?

Kids these days punch in 8 dimensions.

I can't post a picture for fear of punching the screen and breaking my computer - but Matthew Lillard better not get within hitting distance of me, let me tell you...

I also find this thread pretty nasty and distasteful. It's the dog-fighting thread all over again, except this time it's OK to fantasize about violence because they're 'The Enemy' for one reason or another.
I'm well aware that I may be renting a glass flat on this one and you could probably find examples of me doing something similar. But that doesn't stop me thinking that if this thread were about Barbelith posters some of the people taking part would be actively lobbying against it.

I'm sure they would, but as the two scenarios are entirely unalike, who cares?

For me, there's a sort of absurdness factor: none of us are ever going to be any conceivable kind of threat to any of these people, let alone a physical danger, so you tip over and out of reality. If we're talking about A. Barbie Lloyd who we might well run into in the pub at some point, it's a whole different dynamic.

Or maybe I'm just making excuses.

Eloi Tsabaoth
13:24 / 21.02.06
Well, you could argue the same about the dog-fighting thread. But dogs are wuvvly and cuddly and these people are evil so it's OK to think about smashing their face in with your fist. Right?

Less searchable M0rd4nt

Well, no. I mean, it's not beyond the realms of possiblity that I could go out and abuse a dog, right? People harming dogs is a fairly common occurance.

I think we need to nail down who and what we can talk about punching. Perhaps in a Policy thread.

Fine, I'll leave you to your celebrity violence porn.
But somebody post some more women, for god's sake, let's not leave them out of the fun...

I dunno; it's a fair point. I'm entirely prepared to be convinced that it's not okay for me to joke about decking David Irving, it just hasn't happened yet.

iamus
13:37 / 21.02.06
Well wasn't the dog thread about the most efficient way to physically harm a living creature, whereas this is just a emphatic cartoony way of saying "these people really get on my tits"?

We need more punchable women in this thread. I'm all for punching Melanie Phillips. And Hazel Blears. And Carol Smillie. And Lowri Turner. But I have no pictures to punch.

Spaniel
13:38 / 21.02.06
You have a picture of Melanie Phillips.

As for the rest, there's always the magic of Google.
