I've been promising to kick one of these off for a while and I've finally got around to it.
What do people think, time for another meet? By my reckoning it's the turn of the West coast barbeloids to head East, but I'm easy either way.
If people could let the usual suspects know, and of course any and all lurkers, or 'lithers who haven't made it to a meet recently for that matter, are welcome.
Anyone know of any up and coming events that might be a decent excuse, please put them forward, or the faithful pub is always a good plan.

I'm always up for this. We found a great pub the other week but it's down in Leith so not very convenient if you need to get to/from the station.

Any votes on a date?

Hmm. Leith is quite convenient from the station (quicker than my house most days). Anyway, where's your place? It's not the Village, is it?
I'm expecting to drag at least one newbie along if we're lucky with this whole apps thing, too.
Will do a spot of event research in the next few days if people want to give me dates.

I was thinking of The Pond on Salamander St.

Oh, I know it. Very good pub. It's a bit of a bitch to get to, especially if you don't know it, though.

would you guys be amenable to a weege on a floor after the event? i can get a bus if necessary, but i would rather be abel to hang around til the last drop is drunk.

i have egress issues, y'see.

it may also be i dont need a crash offa youse, if i can blag a crash offa others. this i would have to check.

My teenage years spent living on a suburban trainline out of London have made me a master of the drunken train ride home*, so I personally would prefer a pub near to a station on the Edinburgh-Glasgow route, but other than that I'm easy.
As for dates I'm thinking start of March, say the 3rd or 4th? I've just been plucked out of the air, so it's not set in stone or anything.

*Unlike a friend of mine who after a big night out woke up in Brighton. He'd missed his stop, travelled to the end of the line, woke up, swapped trains to go back towards London and missed his stop again. Schoolboy error.

Toksik - we may be able to put you up, depending on which weekend we settle on. But then we're unlikely to be out all that late so things might be finishing up around train time anyway ...

Having recently bought an airbed for friends, I can give a yes on that. Though A&L's place is probably bigger.

This seems to have dropped off without any actual decision.

If it's still going ahead, and it's on a Sunday, Monday, Wednesday (though not this Wednesday) or Friday night, I will be there.

I'm dead set on stopping being such an antisocial bastard, because I really would love to meet you all.

Shall we say a friday then: either this Friday or next Friday?

■
20:50 / 27.02.06
I think this week is getting a bit short notice. Shall we say next? I did have the plan of going to the Whisky Soc in Leith, but found out today the buggers are closed for renovation. Grrr..

Next friday is better for me actually. I've just found out I've got an old friend coming into Glasgow.

Yep, I'm happier with next. I'm trying to avoid anywhere that might have smoke in it right now...
Grrrnnn.. More pizza.... More water... Early bed...

Ah, hello! I was rather hoping I could invite myself along as well, being an Edinburgh Barbeloid, even if a rather new one - in fact this is my first post, but it would still be nice to meet you all! Would that be alright?

You're more than welcome: the more the merrier I always say.

How's all the weegies planning on getting through to Edinburgh? I suggest a team up.

Still good for this toksik? How 'bout Duncan and yawn? Wouldn't mind meeting the rest of the kin.

Ariadne
11:28 / 03.03.06
Sorry, I won't be around that weekend, I'll be down in Cornwall. Not sure of Loomis' plans - he might be living it up wild and crazy while I'm away...

19:18 / 03.03.06
Oh, bum. A meet's not a meet without ya, girl. Have I really not seen you since November? Will have to make a point of going to a pub after the ban... I might even be clean by then.

Loomis
14:15 / 04.03.06
Well in that case should we go for the next Friday then? WHat do you lot think? Friday 17th?

Axolotl
16:47 / 04.03.06
Loomis: I can do either weekend, so either way I'm cool.
Meludreen: When you say team-up, does that mean there'll have to be some kind of misunderstanding leading to a big fight, before we realise that this has been masterminded by our mutual enemy who we then join forces to defeat? Either way it sounds like a plan.

I'm avoiding posting cos I carn't come. Booked up for tea with me et madame's parents this weekend. Also, pitiful cashflow sitch.

Would love to meet you though, Mel. You South Glasgow? I have a feeling you alluded to this; if so, you're prolly not too far away fae me. If not, nivirmind.

Have a nice time, everyone.

Provided I spend very little this week, then next week should work for me too. Either or.

Phox: That just sounds like normal drinkage really, the only difference is an excuse to wear a pair of red speedos over my trousers.

Dunc: I am South. Cathcart actually.

Oh-ho, then I am in fact the nearest poster to Blairbeth Road, being in Croftfoot, and thus master of all I survey.

19:33 / 07.03.06
Damn you!

I work in The Croft, Dunc.
Probably about a spit's distance from you.

The Falcon
19:00 / 08.03.06
Holy shit? Really? I go there to watch the footie, 's at the end of the road. I've prolly seen you there.

Had a really enjoyable experience the other week when Aberdeen went one up on the Celts and I was unable to suppress myself, thusly receiving hard stares.

Loomis
07:33 / 09.03.06
This is where Meludreen finds out that that pisshead he always has to kick out of the pub is Duncan.

Loomis
07:34 / 09.03.06
By the way, are we locked in for Friday 17th March then? Say about 7pm?

Who's in?

Ariadne
07:54 / 09.03.06
Meeeeee.

Where are we going then? I think the Pond is too far for the train-catching folks. What about the Wally Dug?

iamus
14:16 / 09.03.06
So since joining up I've found out that I already knew toksik and that Duncan frequents my place of work.

Next I expect to find that Phox is my long lost evil twin and yawn used to try to punt me skag under a pseudonom.

Ariadne
14:20 / 09.03.06

I am evil: it's the beard and the english accent. If cinema has taught us anything these two things mean I am as evil as can be. I don't think we're related though Meludreen.
Friday 17th is good for me. I think we should pin it down to then, otherwise we'll never get this going.
I'm easy wrt venue, but if the Wally Dug comes with the Ariadne seal of approval it must be worth checking out.

I'm not sure Alan Rickman is from St Albans.
Anyway, I'm in! That's just off the 23 route which is ace for me. Any idea what time, and who needs a bed?
I bet I'm going to find out I used to work with half of you. Any booksellers in the gang?

19:41 / 09.03.06
Following Ariadne's post I can't believe I missed the chance for an ESB reference.
Of course Dunc, now you're going have to sidle up to all the bar staff muttering "Barbelith?" out of the side of your mouth. Which is why we need a secret handshake.

The Falcon
22:35 / 09.03.06
We so do.

I really fancy this, now, as it's a convenient date + plus extreme posse! but I am watching my financial sitch as one might expect an AFC fan to do (maybe this's the wrong audience for that - err, very tightly.)

I passed the pub tonight, on the way to check madame's tyre pressure (I can't drive) and get fags at the garage just up, and in a way I did really just want to burst in and go 'MELUDREEN!!!' and then possibly run away or something.
