Just so I know: do we send an e-mail to Tom if we've passed the applicant through the 1ary check, or is it just for people who've gone through both checks (which is the assumption I've been working from)?

Phex, we are only doing one check per applicant in order to clear the backlog -however I think it is best if one of the group sends a mail to Tom with a number of applicants on (as I said upthread, 10-20 applicants per email), that way he doesn't get snowed under with emails. If you want to send to Tom, don't forget to set the final status of the applicants to sent. There's a guide to that in the 'Files' section of the site as well.

Jeez, no wonder you're puggled! This is tricky stuff.
I know you're sticking with first pass but being the anal sort I'm running from the bottom of the list and double-checking the "unsent". Is this OK?
Big respect and, I think they call them, "props" to Nina, Vincennes and all who have been struggling with this.

Don't thank me, I dropped out for 3 months until I realised no one else could work out how to connect the email account and Yahoo group up.

Mind you I have been doing this for 5 hours straight now.

Don't thank me

OK, would you accept a brief and unintrusive wuffle?
Shiny nose, bright eyes. No-one at home.
My medicinal alcohol is kicking in so it's time to pass, but I'll be doing a few hours of sifting before work tomorrow.

I tried to join the group... but I have not been accepted.... Am I not wanted?

Holy shit. I'm reading the instruction files on the group now and... I think my brains just bled out my ears.

There seem to be some great people applying, but the process is also melting my brain. I think I know what I'm doing.

I'd just like to confirm some things here, since I'm not mentally equiped to do this just on the instructions.

I've been the 1st checker on two people so far. They don't have a web presence that has mentioned Barbelith applications, so to check it was actually them, I've sent emails to them both asking for a reply confirming they do actually want to join.

From what I understand, we're only doing one check - so should I fill out the "2nd check" box on the database of they are real people, or just send the info to Tom?

If we were to be the second checker, what kind of check do we do for the seond check? Send them another email?

We send the records in a lump so just leave them as passed.

We currently have 7 unchecked records that no one has looked at. If people fancy doing those that would be great. I'd rather everything had a name beside it before I forward anything else (I've just sent four emails out so I'd rather not do anymore today).

Right, all but one (which features a comment instead) have names next to them now. So (happy days) we have 22 more to do now.

We have three people wanting to join the apps group, but I have no idea who they are. Anyone want to help me out here?

One isn't a member and hasn't followed proper proceedure so either someone needs to email that person or we simply reject the application.

The other two need to send one of us an email stating it's them.

I'm worried about how quickly some of the people with free email addresses are being passed.

Yeah, the whole Gmail thing makes me MIGHTY uncomfortable. We are sticking with work/school/service provider addys over some-freebie-that-anyone-can-scrounge-up, aren't we?

I've passed a couple of gmail-with-blogs people.

Gmail on its own is a no-go, but if the address matches up to the address on a bllog that's been maintained for a bit of time, all is gut, right?

What I've done is to make a note on freemail accounts - often they are people who have business emails they don't want to use, so I send an email to the freemail account asking them to answer from the bus. account, then submit them with the freemail account and and explanatory note.

Then find out they've already been done, because I am a spoon.

Well I'm about to confirm someone through a profile and then AIM so any way you can link identity through a website is fine.

One thing I would say is that if you are going to confirm through blogs try to email that person as well just to double check that they have asked to be a member.

I can forward more emails in half an hour or so if people want me too.

Hi, I'm back again and hating to post here again.

A quick heads up: 5 records that need names beside them on the Yahoo group. Around 45 emails still waiting to be forwarded.

You still need people for this?

Relpy here (or PM me) and I will make the appropriate steps.

That would be great, just pm me your email address once you've signed onto the yahoo group.

I'd just like to thank everyone because we've managed to check, in some form or another, over 200 applicants this week and the 20 odd people who are members of the group have worked pretty hard.

Here's an update on what's going on:

There are currently 12 records on the database without names next to them so they need to be checked.

We have 41 emails to be forwarded to the Yahoo group, the last was sent on the 28th January so within the last fortnight. We're currently receiving around one email a day so I think we're in the amber zone.

I have forwarded and passed all emails belonging to an educational email address tonight so all of the 41 left are going to need to be checked out quite vigorously.

A quick question- once we've forwarded mail from the gmail account to the yahoo group, do we delete it from the gmail account?

Do we also delete messages from the yahoo group once we've added the names therein to the database?

Tryphena Absent
13:00 / 14.02.06
Nothing gets deleted- archive the messages in the gmail account.

Five on the database to be seen and dealt with. 27 in the gmail account to be forwarded.

When Lurid signs on as primary checker, does that mean ze is emailing/dealing with/checking out the people?

I'm a bit wary of sending multiple 'please verify link between email and blog' emails...

Tryphena Absent
18:04 / 14.02.06
Yes.

Don't be wary, I basically write the same thing to everyone.

Checkers, can you check the messages on the Yahoo Group, there's something I'd like as many of you to do as possible.
