Oi. Don't be dissing the fish, it rubs against *my* bias. As someone with a real love for (some) third wave ska, who survived beyond the early noughties, I resent the fact that No Doubt did so much better than they did, despite the relative quality of their live shows. And 'had'? RBF just released (amazingly, their first) covers album (including "keep a cool head") and have another 'proper' album due out later this year.
I think that most people are aware that neither Gogol Bordello or RBF will be remembered as having made a massive impact on music in the long run, but they're both enjoyable to their audiences, and both appear to me to really enjoy their live shows, which IME makes a vast difference to the reception, though there's obviously a discussion of the role of showperson vs the role of frontperson there and the demands of different musical genres which the lith may or may not be up to supporting. One for Arborlith perhaps. |
