I tend to prefer Jupiter's over beckettes for a couple of reasons.

Jupiter is much more BERKELEY in feel and sound. They brew their own beers, and there's a possibility that I'll know the musicians playing (so I get to support old friends while making new friends). Also it's a bit more spacious.

Still I have nothing against a sort of local crawl. While the more I think about it the more fun it sounds Last minute chaos could have me changing plans at the last minute.

I've lived in the Berkeley/Oakland area for some 8 years now... lots of fun can certainly be had.

Still, I think any out-of-towner MUST spend at least a day taking in San Francisco. There's so much to see and expierance in that little city... Plus there's the Pacific Ocean. A search will reveal previous thread choc-full of winput on where to go and what to do in S.F. and there's a handful of S.F. 'lithers that might be willing to cross the bridge for a Berkeley hang out as well.

I'm here with more net access than I thought I'd have. Plus my mobile phone works fine, although I'm having difficulty charging it. Did I give you guys my mobile number?

I have it. So is it Jupiter then? Can I get food there, Mr. Tricks? I don't drink, so it would be good to have something to do.

Jupiter's even closer to Downtown Berkeley BART, and with the neon it's really hard to miss.

If I can find my credit card, I'll buy my ticket tomorrow. I believe I will be staying in SF. Or Oakland. I won't know for a few more days.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Is there anywhere I can crash over that night?

My house has a guest room. I'll see if it will be available.

Cool. Thank you.

Anyone know of any good places to find out about gigs around the Sacramento/San Francisco area? I really fancy some good live music this week.

Hi guys. I booked my ticket, and I'll be staying with a friend in SF. Look forward to seeing you all Friday night.

Also, I heard that Jupiter's has good pizza, id_entity.

Yum!

Jupiter's does have pretty good pizza; brick oven style. Plus there's plenty of other eatibles. There are TONS of great food places all walking distance from that area. So, if it's more of a food oriented get together we could easily meet outside of Jupiter's (under the neon sign or something) and deside what people want to eat.

Jupiter's also has live music going on and hopefully the weather will allow for outside activity...
SWOOP UNIT 8.oo "Swoop Unit is one of the hardest working, greasy-pocketed, groove-laden, funky soul jazz machines you will ever hear!" Inspired by the soul-jazz sounds of Grant Green, Lou Donaldson, Donny Hathaway, the JB's, and more, Swoop Units' unique funky originals and covers get people groovin’

Jupiter's best feature is its backyard area. Across the street and south about 2 blocks and downstairs is the SHATTUCK DOWNLOW who's got . . .
9:00 PM Psychokenetics, Bayonics, & Company of Prophets. (Funky fresh latin fusion, mind bending beats & Hip Hop.

I've heard good things about Company of Prophets & its only a $5 cover.

I'm certain there's plenty of other interesting activities going on there abouts...

Hmmm. I've just finally gotten round to looking at the geography of the area and noticed that pretty much every place I need to go (Vacaville, Vallejo where I'd get the ferry, Berkeley and San Francisco) is on Interstate 80. Is there any way of buying a two day bus pass that will allow me unlimited free travel along this road, or all local buses?

Seth
18:52 / 08.03.06
Oh, and it's Jupiter's, right? What time shall I meet you lot?

Seth
19:12 / 08.03.06
Hmmm. I can Greyhound from Vacaville to SF, then BART from SF to Berkeley.

Thinking out loud here in case someone wants to correct my shonky assumptions.

that sounds about right, although I'm not acquainted with Greyhound around here, myself. Jupiters— I'm gonna suggest about 7? But I'm flexible.

7:ish under the Neon Jupiter's sign? Sounds cool... shall we work out a secret signal later?

Public Transit in Cali sucks... generally. You might look into the AmTrack but I suspect the greyhound to S.F. mission is where its at. It drops you pretty close to Embarcadero St.B.A.R.T.

Of course you'll want to take the BART line to Downtown Berkeley. Your best bet is the Richmond bound train. Otherwise crossing the bay on the Pittsburg/Bay Point train will have to exiting and transfering at the MacAuthor station. The Dublin/Pleasanton or Fremont trains will force you to wait for a train in West Oakland or Lake Merrit... don't bother.

I may not have much time online before Friday, so if htere's a change of time & place from Jupiter's at 7, could somebody call me?

Thanks. See you guys soon!

Seth

Will do fred.

03:13 / 09.03.06
Oh, and Seth, you're cool on sleeping space— I'm still not sure if the guest room will be free, but if not there's the media room and if all else fails my floor. So long as you're okay staying at a student co-op, that is. There's a party that night so it will be loud and messy— cluttered, that is, but not filthy.

Mr Tricks
15:51 / 09.03.06
Does this mean we're all invited to crash the party?

*
16:06 / 09.03.06
No. It's not my party, it's an event for UC Berkeley student queer organizations. Anyone misbehaves at my house and I throw you out myself, and I mean it.

Seth
16:11 / 09.03.06
Thanks id entity. I have impeccable manners and sometimes I even smell alright. I will be a paragon of virtue. Never fear!

Hurrah!

(It's tough being co-catherder of 38 mostly undergrads. Makes me a bit defensive sometimes.)

Mr Tricks
19:41 / 09.03.06
Sorry, was simply joking about the party crashing... most likely it'll be an early night for me as it is.

I gathered, Tricks, and I hope you forgive me for being overly defensive. There's background.

Phoo. No chance of me being able to attend, so I'll just take this opportunity to wish Seth and the rest of you a happy birthday/Barbemeet.

Gah. We couldn't find the Greyhound station this morning. I should be halfway to San Francisco by now.

I can't do anything now unless I get a lift to where the Greyhound actually is, or to Davis or Vallejo.

I'll be there if I have to break heaven and earth. A lot of people in the church here would want to do a favour for the Cooke family, so I might be in luck.

Otherwise it's hitch-hiking.

I hate this. The lack of autonomy in being reliant on people to drive me around is so frustrating. In England I'd have a thousand options.

I'll be there. Don't worry about that.

16:29 / 10.03.06
Sorry to hear it, Seth— hope it all works out okay.

I'm going to be so much fun tonight— I've got a really terrible sinus infection and can barely speak. Hurrah! This will be great!

Also, the weather's looking a bit dismal.
Evening rain followed by a mix of rain and snow overnight. Low 34F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precip 70%. A slushy accumulation of less than one inch.

Bring an umbrella. I doubt the snow prediction but it has been cold and rainy in the east bay.

In the net cafe round the corner. See you in a minute!

Mission accomplished. That was grand. It was so good to meet you all and let's do this again sometime.

I had a fabulous time. Yeah, we'll do it again next time I come over.
