Is it the list released or news regarding specific Horsemen, Petey?

There's a link somewhere up-thread, Shrug, about Milligan's plans re: the X-men.

I can't help wondering if he isn't going to make them out to be a bit, y'know, er, *coff* 'boheminian,' though.

*Cold, rattled larf*

I carn't see any link.

Here's one, though: "Peter Milligan writes X-Men. And really, does anything else need to be said? I mean, I’d say over 90% of the readership just skipped over the intro and jumped ahead to find out what’s happening to Marvel’s Merry Band of Mutants. The only ones reading this are probably fans of his Vertigo work like Animal Man, Human Target and Shade The Changing Man. If you have a clue about any of the titles I just mentioned, you’re definitely one up on me. So just hit post reply and complain about Wolverine, I won’t mind… seriously."

Thanks, X-Fan!

Ohhh, and I just found them spoilers. Yes.

Good.

There's a relatively spoilery link regarding possible choice here!
And here is a previews of 182 that reveal the identity of another Horseman.

Larocca's artwork is really improving. Some of those panels are even better than his best work on X-Treme X-Men(not that I read that..ha..ha..aha..). So, the guy with the white-hair on the front cover of 185 is who, exactly?

It's Gambit.

So, Sunfire has also been revealed as one of the Horsemen (perhaps the deal was that he'd get his legs back). The link Duncan gave shows various characters and says that three of them will be Horsemen - Gambit and Sunfire have already been identified. So, speculation on the third? Prior to the Gambit reveal I would have said that either Lorna or Alex was likely - particularly Lorna since she's lost her powers and may want them back - however I think one core cast member switching sides will be enough.

The obvious candidate must then be Mystique, since Milligan's run is turning out to be more carefully structured than I for one had imagined. Does she have any history with Apocalypse? This could mean that the fourth Horseman is this guy Pulse, but I'm not sure whether Mystique's plans/motivations would then make much sense... Not that that has to be a problem.

Gazer would appear to be joining Team Apocalypse in those preview pages linked to above - and again, given the situation he was in when last seen, that's hardly surprising if he got a cure for radiation poisoning out of the deal. I wasn't expecting him to be powerful enough to be a Horseman, but it just occurred to me that if he became able to cause radiation poisoning he could become the new Pestilence.

I suspect that the fall-out from 'Decimation' will see mutants joining up with Apocalypse for protection and/or resoration of their powers - unless the whole survival of the strongest thing means that the ex-mutants are target number one for En Shabba Nurrrrr.

So, Milligan's replacement as of #188 will be Mike Carey. I have to say that I've never read any of his stuff.

Yea or nay?

(Wasn't sure whether this warrants a new thread yet, so I've just stuck it here.)

The Falcon

Not really. He always seems very nice in interviews/on boards, but it's second gen. Vertigo writing at its dullest. (Caitlin Kiernan excepted.) Got me to drop Hellblazer, which was something of a feat.

It's going to be drawn by Chris Bachalo and the line-up will include Rogue and Iceman, Cable and Cannonball, and Mystique and Sabretooth. It seems like the X-Team of the mid-nineties is making a return. I can't say I'm looking forward to a team featuring Mystique and Sabretooth. Whenever they appear as X-Team members, most recently in mid-nineties X-Factor they seem to be crammed in for shock factor and "x-tremeness." Wonder if they'll be made wear the dog-collars this time 'round.

Uncanny X-men will be written by Ed Brubaker (yay!) and drawn by Billy Tan, artist of the X-23 series (not yay!).

But at least they're getting Claremont off the main books.

I really want to like Milligan's Horsemen storyline.

This Mike Carey thing should be quite the trainwreck.

I know Flux has been raving about the Milligan run, but I feel so... liberated... to not have been buying X-books for quite some time. Seeing as how guns, claws, and battitude will be returning, why are any of you even bothering?

Are you addicted to the characters? The soap? The "allegory"?

I only get Whedon's Astonishing...I've looked through/read Milligan's stories in the store but they've never grabbed me enough to buy them. Maybe this Horsemen story might make me care enough...but I never cared about Apocalypse at all. To me, he just screams 'bad villain from a bad, cheesy period in X-Men creative history'. But that's just me.

Pocy used to have Wolverine and Green Hulk with Adamantium helmet as horsemen. Now he has Gambit. Kind of a downgrade.

We'll see... Gambit hasn't been interesting for years, but this could actually work. Remember Warren's blue-skinned mutation lasted nearly ten years after he broke free of Apoc. Maybe this black-skinned, white-haired look for Remy will linger. I hope so because it looks really evil!
As for the other three Horsemen, wouldn't it be great if they were Polaris, Doop/Daap, and that mask-wearing terrorist chick?
Picture an adamantium helmet wearing Doop/Daap/Death with glowing red eyes How would Apocalypse amp Doop's already godlike powers?

Mike Carey has also written Lucifer which, considering it's about the second most powerful thing in existence, turned out to be quite fun.

*Hahh* I just bought parts one and two of 'What Lorna Saw' and it's not even bloody Doop. It's Daap, apparently.

And the art is revolting, possibly even worse than Larroca. >tt<

FinderWolf
19:08 / 26.01.06
Yeah, that art was really awful.

Lorna does say that 'he goes by many names' about "Daap." Maybe she 'heard' his name wrong (through whatever telepathy or weird speech he uses)? Doesn't she say she's smitten with him too, which might refer back to how all the ladies loved Doop back in X-Statix (for some bizarre reason)?

As for Billy Tan drawing Brubaker's X-Men, I was encouraged by this from a Newsarama interview with Brubaker today:

>> EB: When I was in Mike Marts office, before I'd agreed to take the job, I took some penciled pages off his wall, because they just leaped out at me. I kept paging through these Xeroxes, with no idea who'd drawn them, and I asked Mike and Nick who this artist was, and could I get him if I took the job.

When they told me it was Billy Tan, I thought there must be two Billy Tans working in comics, because this stuff was so different than anything I'd seen in MK Spider-Man. But it turns out it's the same Billy Tan, he's just reinvented his style and exploded, basically. So, I couldn't be happier to have him on my run. I think he's going to knock people's socks off. Just wait until next week, when you see his promo piece for our run.

Yeah, they showed a pencil preview of Tan's first cover, and I totally didn't hate it.

So, 'Blood of Apocalypse' got underway today, and it was actually pretty good. Things I've also not hated recently include Larroca's art this ish, which was a deal less cluttered and much stronger for it; also much less murky colouring along with the composition, for the most part. Irony-heavy Milligan at work here; Pestilence (aka Polaris/Daap/both of the above, I reckon) getting arch about smallpox, Apoccy telling Ozymandias to have a bath - these are things I like, in part because people who read these books obsessively will most likely not do so.

I also like having back-up stories, particularly when they feature mutant superheroes shorn a couple of extremities demonstrating said heroism.

Enjoyed it... Nice improvements to POCKY's design.

Finally OZZY seems to have some purpose.

Enjoyed looking back and seeing that the previous Mystique storyline actually DID have some purpose.

War being crafted from a total Looser 4th tier mutant; great.

Seems as though Milligan's hit his stride just in time.

And so it's ends.

(there'll be spoilers for the whole thing, here)

Hey, it wasn't the best thing evah!, but he did introduce Blind and get Gambit off the X-Men, and that's not bad.

My fave Poccy yet, so utterly full of himself but with newfangled Summers-infection! Gambit trying to kill Rogue! Lorna on her own, her own person, for the first time in(if you consider it a Mags/Havok/Iceman/Havok/Iceman/Havok kinda progression)almost forever! Leper Queen: failed! Sunfire: still a bastard! Havok and Iceman pretty much the super-powerful weak-links, left together with nothing but jack and shit (and jack left town)! New vague vague powers! Gus is Fantomex if Fantomex was crappier at everything! And is it me, or has Mystique been pining for her step-daughter all through this run?

Oh, and the not-Doop? Eh, who knows! Lovely!

the color work was terrible in that last issue. Emma colored as Death at one point and Rogue & Gus switching gloves and sleeves for a panel.

Nice touch towards the end as Gambit & Sunfire wander off into the sun(rise?) together.

And has Rogue never yet been drawn in a skin-on-skin contact scene with her new momma-approved boy? Now that's over with, probably, too, but you'd think... I mean, the artist screwed it up the first time, but that could have been slipping casually into any panel with the two of them, throughout the rest of this run.

I'm sort of glad to see Larocca and Milligan go. Neither of them seemed to be trying to hard with this entire run, although they did leavee some interesting plot threads to draw from...
One question though. What happened to Doop? Did we see him again after being drawn into the sphinx?

This Sunday

'Blind' of course, would not be, as her name is 'Bling'.
