That Double-bladed-sword-wielding blond barbarian of the future with the big hairy sidekick? That was Kirby, wasn't it?

That was Thundarr the Barbarian. IMDB says it was created by Steve Gerber and written by Mark Evanier with Kirby on character designs.

kovacs- It would need filling out with the backstory from Phase II, I think, but this could make a great movie -- affectionately mocking of its 80s milieu.

I'm not so sure it would need the backstory from Phase II- Ph I worked fine on its own as a comic. They'd probably just flesh it out with more Lovecraftian Naziness, seeing as how everyone loved Hellboy.

It's surprising, in fact, now that GM is such a major comic-book brand, that Zenith has received so little attention; you can't even buy the original story unless you want to spend £25 a book on ebay.

Thereby hangs one of the more tortuous tales of British copyright law in recent years...

Thinking about it (actually as I'm typing this, so apologies for the idea seeming half-formed) I originally thought "yay! Zenith would be great as a movie/TV series" but I'm starting to wonder. Even a new Zenith comic that wasn't drawn by Yeowell would seem wrong, somehow.
I guess I just couldn't imagine them doing it well. But then, that was what I thought about the X-Men as well, so, y'know...

Given the above and my childhood (probably misremembered) memories of this show, I now propose: Thundarr: The Motion Picture. In 3-D.
And, back on the comics front, I would enjoy a 'Gunsmith Cats' or 'The Authority' movie more than I should probably admit to.
Or a real 'Hellblazer' adaptation, with a proper Sting-a-like and that lovely Delano cold. The producer could say Alan Moore loved it and the press could write more 'No more Biff! Bam! Pow! in comics' articles.

A Grendel trilogy would be fun.

Pt 1 Hunter Rose

Pt 2 The Granddaughter up till the Vampire Pope

Pt 2 Orion up till War Child.

As for Casting... um no clue beyond Lucy Lawless as the Green haired Grendel of War Child.

No matt, its the film version of he man and the masters of the universe that owes the huge debt to kirby rather than the cartoon written (in part at least) by JMS of Babylon5 fame...
