This is out today, and many stores had big "event" midnight openings last night. Most reviews say it's pretty solid, although it might suffer a bit from 'first issue setup' which can hardly be all that bad, I suppose. I'll be picking it up and checking it out, not being a huge Stephen King fan myself, but more of a big fan of Jae Lee's work...

Having completely forgotten about this, and not having been comic shopping for a while, I was pleasantly surprised to pick up the first six the other day. I've only read the first couple, but yeah, so far I'm liking it. The writing's solid, the art's fairly gorgeous (though a more visually-inclined friend of mine says he hates the colouring) and the atmosphere seems pretty spot on. So far the story's basically Wizard And Glass, but apparently new material gets worked in. Which is quite a good choice, as Wizard and Glass was a good story stretched out far too long- as a seven-issue comic it may well work a lot better.

I loved the colouring of the preview pages I saw. For me Jae Lee is one of those artists that doesn't really work at all without a decent colourist, I can't stand his pencils/inks on their own, it's like he's conciously leaving gaps to be filled, whch is in no way a bad thing.

I had no idea there was new material being worked in, I didn't buy it becasue I thought it was a straight retelling of WoG, which was the only Dark Tower book I didn't really love.

There isn't all THAT much new material being worked in. I have read the 6 that are out and the main story is pretty much spot on.

What is new, and what I find far more enjoyable, are the prose style backing stories. Some of the history of the world is getting placed there, but I can't help but think that I would rather read a 7 issue comic book about Arthur Eld and the origin of the Gunslingers then a rehashed flashback with the history as backup.
