Okay, so, this thread kind of span out of the IRL. Meatspace. You thread, mostly this post and the challenge that ensued.

So, I sat down at various points over the weekend, and added names to this list when I remembered them. A goodly few of these people only ever lurked, and are very likely not even members anymore, but I still either met them through this place, or introduced them to it, so on the list they go...

I've been a member of this board since it started in 1999, but around the start of 2002, I dropped off for about 18 months or so, and some people have changed their names several times since then, so there's every possibility I may have forgotten someone or other. If you're reading this and feeling neglected because I did, then feel free to add yourself. There are a few people I've met in real life (some in Southampton, some in Stoke Newington, for starters) whose Barbelith names I don't know, so they're definitely missing.

And, in order to save this from being just a list-thread, 'cos we know how much Haus hates those, feel free to add your stories of the time you met me, and I may get around to adding my own. (Oh, this could be a great exercise in nostalgia.... or terribly ill-advised. Time will show which...)

Make me 120, we met three years ago. And several times since then in London, Brighton and Southampton. You don't love me do you?

Hiya Anna,

You might not have met me, but I remember seeing you. I'd seen pictures of you in Stoatie in Greenland (or somewhere fairly recently) so I knew what you looked like. Then last Stoke Newington festival, I was sat there with my mates when you and Stoatie (and another boy) walked passed. I was really stoned at the time and the idea of talking to anyone I'd only seen pictures on the internet seemed a little bit too much. Hopefully, if this happens again I won't be too stoned and I'll come and say hi!

Quantum, I'm really sorry but I don't remember you at all. Isn't that terrible? I feel really bad now.

Jub, it was Iceland not Greenland! And next time say hello!

Wait, no, I could be wrong, screen names are my weakness... I am still struggling with the Anna to Nina change...no in fact I haven't ever met you. I take it all back, and hope to see you when you next visit Brighton.

Anna -- were you at that NLP thing run by marmalade cooper/quizkid adrian? You were! Barbelith orange shirts!

That day still seems strangely dreamlike to me -- if you have to have a Barbelith meet, then why not in a classroom tucked away in an old mansion, with a bit of wandering around the gardens *noticing things*?

I still feel guilty about leaving before being able to chat to Haus properly -- I was already late to meet up with the family back in town, and his resemblance to one of my uncles alarmed me.

Oh, and what's the most recent screen name of the the other guy who was in New York? I remember his meat name better than handles (he shifted through a few), which is odd.

Anna I read something in your original post as "a-list". So does that make us all A-listers if we've met you.
I could never say who I've met because I can't ever sort out the names. THE NAMES. Perhaps 'lither's should just have numbers. According to Anna's list of course.

In fact, I've never met anyone from here. How sad.

Well, at least we're next to each other here, us 71-72 people. If only the 73 was still a Routemaster. But would I want to be a bendy bus at all?

I don't recall being A-listed before. Yay!

I keep waiting for this to happen to me. (I mean, for me to be just sat there in Stokey and see Someone I Recognise from the pics thread walk past.) I'm quite moist with anticipation, really, although I have yet to decide what to do when it actually happens.

Nor me. It's not sad though, it makes us special. Perhaps we should start our own club.

I mean, for me to be just sat there in Stokey and see Someone I Recognise from the pics thread walk past

If you sit around long enough in Stokey, the whole world walks past. You walk down the street in Stokey and it takes twise as long as anywhere else because of all the familiar folks who stop for a chat.

How many of them are from Barbelith I'm not sure of - I ran through the list and know I've met (or as Xoc indicated elsewhere, smiled slightly at from the next bench at the pub) quite a bunch of Anna's Barb-A-'lithlist at various drinking dens, Masonic temples, festivals, marches and Bob-a-thons and even on our old roof terrace. But as Lilly N noted, faces and suits just don't always click together in my mind either. Factor in the almost inevitable booze and everything becomes a blur, again.

So my rough guess is about one and a half times as many as I actually remember Stoatie introducing me to. Which is perhaps 20 or so.

Generally, I think the etiquette is that you buy them a pint.

Where are you located? One of us poor, disincfranchised North Americans in our remote little enclaves of 'lithiness?

Unexpected bonus to joining Barbelith - I had no idea such things were permitted/encouraged. I have raised my anticipation levels significantly in the light of that information...

Oh, absolutely. One of the few advantages to being a brain suspended in a glass jar is that I don't have to partake in the increasingly horrible Barbelith daisy chains. Greenlighting and redshirting are pretty much de rigeur.

The other advantage is that my screams are almost entirely inaudible.

Sick and wrong though it may be, I felt an absurd sense of honour at finding my n00b name on Anna's List. (Which has no relationship to Craig's List, which as we know consists of but a single entry, under A.)

Living in Wales I had thought of myself as far removed from the Barb-epicentre, but Sekhmet's post clearly obliges a change of perspective.

heh! I opened this thread purely to say "I think you've met punji steak as well... he was doing the animal impressions on my birthday" but it appears he's beaten me to it.

Still got the bit about the animal impressions in, though.
