I’ve hit ‘lith outposts in Glasgow, London, Brighton, Brazil and California, on me travels, so have had plenty of opportunity to contrast virtual and meat personas…
It’s by and large been cool, though I’ve often suspected people weren’t understanding a fucking word I was saying (but then I mumble bit, and am Scottish). Still, it hasn’t really curtailed my adventures in meatspace…
It’s strange when people confound the imagined-image you’ve held for them. More often than not people are quite quiet IRL, when they don’t come across as such on-line. There’s been various surprises… Pappuce, who I currently share a flat with, I always suspected was some strange old man living in a castle, dabbling with the occult. Ganesh I expected to be a stocky biker-type, so it was surprising that he’s more Michael Stipe than Michael Elphick… I could go on (but probably shouldn’t). |
