Alas - how about you bring some cookies with you when you are next in London?

alas
14:28 / 12.08.05
Sure, and I promise not to call them "biscuits," as that might seem like putting on airs.

Still, the idea of having all 5,000 or so of you over for cookies and tea...

Mmmmm, cookies.

Am I still the person on Barbelith who's met the most other Barbeloids in real life? Or has someone beaten me to that by now...? (I think quite a few of the people I met aren't even on here anymore, actually. Or are under new names that I haven't connected to the old names...)

Umm, how would you go about proving whether you had or not? A list?

mondo a-go-go
14:52 / 12.08.05
Probably a list.

Not that I have time to do that right now. maybe I'll do one at home... :]

Maybe you and Stoatie could draft a Venn diagram?

Mourne Kransky

As Stoatie has pointed out above, barbemeets seem usually to involve much imbibing of John Barleycorn.

I realise now that this accounts for why barbeloiks always seem much nicer and more interesting in the flesh. Not to mention sexually alluring. I'm usually too pissed to notice you're all vile, boring mingers.

It also means I have met many more barbelitems than I can remember. And certainly lots whose names I have since forgotten. Anna must go home and write it all down immediately to have such recall.

I’ve hit ‘lith outposts in Glasgow, London, Brighton, Brazil and California, on me travels, so have had plenty of opportunity to contrast virtual and meat personas…

It’s by and large been cool, though I’ve often suspected people weren’t understanding a fucking word I was saying (but then I mumble bit, and am Scottish). Still, it hasn’t really curtailed my adventures in meatspace…

It’s strange when people confound the imagined-image you’ve held for them. More often than not people are quite quiet IRL, when they don’t come across as such on-line. There’s been various surprises… Pappuce, who I currently share a flat with, I always suspected was some strange old man living in a castle, dabbling with the occult. Ganesh I expected to be a stocky biker-type, so it was surprising that he’s more Michael Stipe than Michael Elphick… I could go on (but probably shouldn’t).

*hands over ears*

I refuse to believe that Ganesh & Xoc don't look like Apollo & the Midnighter.

Well, maybe JSG didn't meet them on the weekend?

HCE

Of course he didn't. Hello, they're superheroes. We can't expect them to just pop into the nearest 'pub' for a few 'pints'.

Set the controls for the heart of the pub!

20:42 / 12.08.05
But might they stop by for a few homemade cookies? I've made 38 dozen, now...

(You're all coming over, right? Right????!)

What you don't know is that I've been in the pub all day...

God, it's been a while since I made that joke.

Liqour and Licensor to the rescue...

Well, now I've met a few more of you anyway, in a meaty and spacey fashion. Lubbly.

I've met grant, levon, and Anna, and a person with a handle which was something like Ulysses but with numbers attached who has either moved on or I missed a suit change. I frequently imagine somehow 'being in the neighborhood' for a London meet, but I haven't figured out how to run an errand which involves crossing the Atlantic. The best I can do currently is attempt to meet Mordant and Lurid by proxy when I send a friend of mine off to Barcelona.

I'm a newbie, so I've not met any Barbeloids in MeatSpace, but I've been lurking for over a year, and I've assigned a voice and look to pretty much everyone here. Any meet would just be a terrible adaptation, like letting Morgan Freeman play Colonel Curtis in "Dreamcatcher"

21:55 / 13.08.05
Now why did you have to mention that movie? That bloody toilet scene popped up again, and I mean bloody.

Essential Dazzler
22:10 / 13.08.05
Hey! If you're going to have a toilet scene it had better be "bloody". Otherwise it either becomes "Sexy" or "pointless"

Or, you know, funny.
Toilets are funny, aren't they?

Essential Dazzler
22:16 / 13.08.05
OK,I conced, it might be funny, but what sane individual would choose "funny" over "bloody"?

Mistoffelees
22:22 / 13.08.05
What was it with this guy and his bloody toothpick? He really deserved to get it by the bloody toiletalien. Weird weird movie. And I only saw it, because the flight of the osiris was playing along with it, I swear.

Benny the Ball
22:27 / 13.08.05
I still get angry about that fucking toothpick - Barb Fact = Dreamcatcher was the first film that Benny the Ball couldn't watch all the way through (it has since been joined by Exorcist the Beginning and Van Helsing)

yeah, i know what you mean.
those are three pretty scary movies!

22:34 / 13.08.05
Scary, really? I heard, van helsing was supposed to be a fun popcorn flick. The trailer and the pics all looked so silly to me.

Essential Dazzler
22:34 / 13.08.05
I only watched that movie because it's one of my favourite horror books, and it's one of the only books in which a character I care about dies because he deserves it. Who the fuck would pick up that tooth-pick?

Benny the Ball

Van Helsing is guilty of one of the most frighteningly overused and under-necessary CGI to shots ratios in film making to date.

And to keep the thread on track - I've meet none of the faces behind the ficsuits (although I often ask people if they are pirate or ninja as a little test).

Mourne Kransky
01:13 / 14.08.05
Yup, just met a whole bunch of them and yet again they were lovely, lovely people. I would have shagged each and every one of them if I wasn't so drunk.

Ah, Xoc's lovely.
And on a related note, I've now crossed Smoothly off my "Barbelites I would most like to meet" list. Also a top geezer.

You don't meat Xoc! Xoc meats you!

At least, that's what I'm hoping.

I have met toksik in real life and that's it. We already knew each other before the board, but neither of us realised until I'd been here a few months.

I've always wanted to know a barbelith member by chance but it hasn't happened to me (yet).

I've always wanted to know a barbelith member by chance but it hasn't happened to me (yet).

i was very drunk and stumbling out of a Death in June concert (don't ask) a few months back, and i started talking to this crazy bald chick.

turned out it was Barbelith's very own Rage.

she said she wanted to meet Haus in person so she could kick him in the balls.
