Delete me if this has been posted before but theres a trailer for Kong Kong available!

Quicktime trailers

I have to admit I thought the idea of a new King Kong movie was a pretty bad idea but this looks great!
roll on December!

My comment on the subject of Kong is... well... personal, a bit. My little kitty is called Kong (after The Goodies episode - Kitten Kong) and she's THIS cute:

Awwwww. The resemblance is uncanny.

I have a really hard time watching Jack Black in that serious of a role. It's not that he hasn't been serious before. It's just that it's usually a prelude to him wigging out or hamming it up like a madman. Not seeing the payoff is a bit... jarring.

But I honestly can't wait to see this. I've been a big Kong fan ever since King Kong Lives (I didn't see the original till much later) and I just finished the the KONG illustrated novel (which gorgeously revisits Skull Island 25 years after Kong and explores the big guy's history).

Just to see Kong swinging from the Empire State Building will be enough for me.

I love the fact Jackson's gone for a remake set in the thirties rather than an updated "reimagining" like Godzilla or something - at the very least, we'll get a biplanes versus Kong finale, right?

Can't stand Jack Black, and I think Adrian Brody should calm down and remember that he did Solo before he went all method, but... It looks great, plus Naomi Watts has always been in a special place in my heart since Tank Girl, plus it looks great. I've a friend working on the effects at the moment out in NZ, and they are going at it full pelt, so expect much more, but the trailer really works.

lots more promo about this lately, new trailers, it's coming very soon so thought I'd resurrect the thread. I've been seeing the image of Jackson's Kong's face all over NYC promotions this week.

Interestingly, I notice that since King Kong is now in the public domain, you will not see the ubiquitous (TM) after the title in any advert for the movie. Fine print in the movie ads says "[this] King Kong movie TM Universal" -- because now anyone can do a piece about King Kong since the copyright expired, I believe (as with the recent illustrated novel from small publisher).

Even though I think the movie will probably end up pretty good, I have the feeling that it's not going to live up to expectations. Even as a big filmgoer, I'm wary about a three hour King Kong film, and in the trailer, all the good bits were from New York, the dinosaur stuff doesn't look that good. Obviously this is just speculation, but it feels like it's two movies fit together, that's why we've got the three hour run time, and ultimately, I think that might be too much Kong for some people.

But when you start out with a 50' gorilla, what's "to much?"

I'm pretty happy to trust Jackson on this based on past form. All judgement suspended until the credits roll.

Yeah, I'll let PJ show us what he's got. If it was pretty much anyone else (except possibly Raimi or Gilliam, even though I'm not hearing good things about Brothers Grimm), I'd think a new King Kong movie would be a terrible idea. But I reckon Jackson may be able to pull it off (so to speak).

For me, it's actually the Skull Island stuff I'm looking forward to the most. The problem with cinema today is there just aren't enough dinosaur fights.

I, and everyone in RL that I have talked to, disagree. I really like the big with the cliff and the vines; Kong falls into a web of vines, T-Rex follows. Looks awesome.

PatrickMM - ...the dinosaur stuff doesn't look that good.

Seriously? That was the one thing that made me go 'ooh, coooool' when I saw the trailer at the weekend. I mean, it's a fuckin' dinosaur. How can it not be good? (lol, and don't say 'Jurassic Park 2 and 3' either!)

Kong vs a big dino. Sounds like a movie worth seeing.

BTW, has anybody else seen the absolute pile-of-shit Kong cartoon on Toonami? It looks like it was made twelve years ago, and not in the good way (the good way being that Batman TAS came out then, and it's the best cartoon ever). Can somebody say bad cash-in?

I'm torn about this movie - on one hand, the basic premise behind King Kong is really cool. But on the other hand, the story can summed up into about 3 sentences and the plot is kind of thin. I'm looking forward to seeing if Peter Jackson can put some more substance on the story...or maybe there's no more substance to be had and it's just cool fun spectacle. I mean, how much of a 3-way triangle can the Ann/Kong/Ann's human boyfriend really be? And how much can Ann really communicate with Kong other than pitying him sadly and saying 'no! don't hurt him!'

Once they discover Kong on the island, we are all fast-forwarding in our minds to him being on display and him on the top of the Empire State. And we're fast forwarding not only because we know the end, but because there's really not much that happens until that famous end moment.

Then again, to counter my own position, there's not much plot to Frankenstein, is there, a very similar Misunderstood Monster. Monster is created/discovered, general populace freaks out, attacks monster, monster only wanted to be loved, dies. The end. And I think the Frankenstein story is cool. But then again, the Frankenstein story is just as much about his creator as it is about the monster. There's not much of a secondary plot in King Kong, other than Ann Darrow's stuff, which isn't very dramatic or interesting.

So "It was beauty that killed the beast" never quite struck a chord for you, then?

So if no one has seen the 4 minute clip NBC aired on 11/28 or the footage of Kong beating the hell out of three (yes, three!) T-Rexs at once that was shown on the Tonight Show, I highly recommend clicking here and feasting your eyes.

It does and did strike a chord for me, but it's like the memory of that line and the famous moments in the Kong movies stand out more than the film(s) themselves as a whole.

But certainly, there are many movies we could all say that about. And I do feel that there is something undeniably classic and iconic about King Kong.

So apparently to keep riding the hype, the powers that be have rereleased King Kong vs. Godzilla on DVD. I'm not complaining on bringing back classic monster mashing madness, except that it appears to be the American version of the film. Damnit! GOdzilla would totally kick that giant monkey's furry ass!

Sorry. Minor rant there.

ahh, I loved King Kong vs. Godzilla (I think I saw the American version only)...and that had MechaGodzilla in it as well, if I recall correctly. Maybe a bit of Ghidra also...?

When I found out the whole 'KONG trilogy' stuff was just an elaborate April Fool's joke on the part of Jackson and the crew, I was a lil' bit disappointed.

I wasn't looking forward to the first film so much as the second; SON OF KONG - where Kong Jr is brought from Skull Island to Europe to fight the giant monsters created by Mad Nazi Science.

Got to see the film tonight.

(beats chest)

KONG IS FUCKING AWESOME.

(beats chest)

I've never really "got" King Kong before. I'm not sure if it's the brilliance of this version or what, but I finally understood the allure of Kong. Even in this one, for awhile, I was going "What kind of nutjob is Ann Darrow to NOT run the hell away from this giant murderous gorilla?"

But since I've seen the previous Kong movies, I've had two very special dogs that were literally best friends and family members. I've seen both of them die, and I cried my eyes out forever. These were the memories I was thinking of while watching Kong tonight. Totally got me. It's so...sad.

I was quite impressed with the movie overall. Naomi was suitably lovely, Black was pitch perfect to his character, and Kong was incredibly emotive and engaging.

The look of the film was utterly fantastic, and some of the CG work was breathtaking. There were moments where I completely forgot that this was CG... then all of a sudden I caught myself and thought "How the hell are they doing this??!"

Kong fucking rules.

Dude. Burger King's had those badboys for a while. I mean, the triple whopper only came out a few months ago but the double's been there forever. I was in there yesterday, and I asked the girl at the counter if there was any difference between those and the regular kind. According to her it's just marketing nonsense.

...

I was horribly disillusioned....

I haven't seen the movie yet, so still reserve judgement, but I do find the many criticisms of the fact that the film is '3 hours long!11!!!1' quite amusing...none of the reviews I've come across (which is not many, admittedly) actually say the movie is baggy because of it...just that three hours is 'too long' when it could have been '2 hours 15 minutes' and still a 'great movie' (seriously).

Like, three hours is just an impossible length of time to maintain attention. Ludicrous. Couldn't we just get Chad Kroeger to write a three minute rock ballad about a giant ape and its love for a scrawny out of work actress from New York, get Hype Williams in to do the video, and be done with it? Channel hopping style.

Hand me the Ritalin, I'm getting cranky.

There is a slight bit of lag in the film, but not too much. I only felt my mind wandering once or twice and not for very long. They get into the story quick enough with minimal introductory stuff. Could trim 20 minutes, maybe.

Saw the midnight show (even got a free T-shirt... very cool) and loved every minute of it. The 3 hours passed by effortlessly for me and thankfully we brought extra brownies.

True this movie hinges on the love of Pets. Was Kong her pet or the other way around . . . it doesn't matter. It was the awareness of that loss, every pet person knows, that drove this movie into one's heart like a stake.

The T-Rex(s) battle had the whole audience howling. Something I am usually not apt to do, but here how could one not. Then the BUGS BUGS BUGS . . . S Q U I R M.

Vertigo towards the movie's climax made that whole sequence fresh.

I wish PJ was working on a son of KONG.
