I'm just wondering if we should set a deadline that we can all make. How about 07aug2005? That's a Sunday.

TeN

in light of so many people declaring they will be submitting late, I'd be in favor of enacting the "fortnightly deadline decision" now rather than later (making the new deadline the 8th)

to be honest, there's nothing terribly large (besides writer's block) to prevent me from making the current August 1st deadline. would be nice to have another week though. (or maybe i need to stop procrastinating and this is just the thing to do it?)

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the dark overlord, I second moving the deadline, for reasons pretty much identical to TeN's.

Silence! Your leader approaches.

(ahem)

There is a spectre haunting pop.11, and that spectre is... My one week deadline. Therefore, the deadline is august 7th. You may applaud my descision making savvy, but know that the first person to cease applause will be shot.

All hail our glorious leader.

Actually I had nearly finished my scribbles, but would have had to complete it whilst entering it onto pop.11:monkeyscience tonight. This way I can actually polish it a little bit before exposing my work to the world.

I apologise in advance for the wanky Pirates of the Caribbean vibe it'll have. But I had an idea and went for it with rottweiler-style tenacity.

I've been thinking alot about what I'm going to write although I haven't put pen to paper as of yet. How are everyone else's endeavours going?

I have a little under 3 pages (double spaced), and plan on extending that a little further and doing some heavy editing. The title actually fit nicely with an idea I've had for a while and motivated me to get moving on it, so I'm glad about that. Not sure it's quite where I envisioned it to be yet, and I'm kind of stumped as to how to tie it up, but hey there's still time left. I think having the extra week will be a great thing - I suppose the story is submitable in it's current state, but it will benefit much from some heavy editing.

I banged out about three sides of handwritten prose last week, and haven't had the courage to read through it yet. I plan to type it up tomorrow and edit, re-write, etc. I just hope it's good enough, that I don't have to scrap it, and the whole thing doesn't end up like my disastrous A-level Art exam.

I got a paragraph in, hit major writer's block, then managed to bang out a couple typed pages before I realized they sucked and also that I wasn't wild about my idea either. So I'm pretty much scrapping everything and starting from scratch now.

A lass. I've been having similar thoughts about mine, but I figured what the hell. I'm going to stick with it and see what the response is.

I haven't transferred to word processor yet, I prefer to handwrite the first draft. Five or so sides of A4 notepaper done so far, and nearing the end.

I look forward to reading everyone's work.

Still thinking, plotting and writing the odd note on m'PDA.

Definitely going to be a Chandleresque first person tale, like what I wrote at the end of this thread.

Agh. I will be Late due to Wales and subsequent lack of computer access, I fear.

Can I suggest we put a title/theme for the next batch out now? Just to keep the ball rolling.

Phex: Dorset Doom

Indeed. Iconoplast can put a new title/theme up if he/she likes.

Would people be up for doing this as a topic? I'm planning to enter it anyway, but it'd be nice to get some feedback. And, let's face it, zombies rule.

TeN

actually, I'm going away for two weeks starting this sunday, so if you put up the next title before I left, I'd be able to write it while I was gone and post it when I got home. then it would only be a day late.

Evil Scientist
09:13 / 05.08.05
Hell yeah! Zombies get my vote!

Sorry comrades, due to circumstances beyond my control I'm going to be a few days late with my story. Hope that's OK (?)

TeN
00:05 / 07.08.05
well, my piece is up. give it a read, won'tcha?
and once again, phex, if you could post the new topic either tonight or tomorrow (or PM it to me if you're so strongly against announcing it early) I would be able to write the next fortnight's story while I'm away. otherwise, I'd have to sit it out, and I'd hate to have to do that.

TeN
00:05 / 07.08.05
make that tomorrow morning...
I'm leaving the house at 11 (PST)

Phex: Dorset Doom

The new topic isn't up to me, it's Iconoplast's call, and in three weeks yours.

Phex: Dorset Doom

(But if it's not posted within two days then my orders are to write something with Zombies in it.)

Bah, out of time to finish it but I've posted about three quarters. Needs work.

Mine's almost there... should be up within a couple hours.

And it's up. In the spirit of Autran, mine, too, is unfinished, but I've been working on it for a while and I need some time away. I'll try and finish it in the next couple of days and post the finished product, but for now I've put up 3/4 of it or so.

It's up, although I can't seem to get to it through any logical channels. Oh yes, Blogger and I are going to get along smashingly.

Here's a link.

I missed merchandise due to being overseas and having an even better time than I expected. Sorry bout that.

Straight onto the Zombies, though, with bells.

A few of us have posted and I've started reading but now, what kind of feedback to we want? Some thoughts.....

1. Say what you liked best, in a sentence or two.

2. Say what you liked least, in a sentence or two.

3. Respond to requests by the writer, like yorick asking how to link in his ending.

4. Don't say vague stuff like "it doesn't work for me".

5. Don't criticise style. <trite>it's about helping you write what you want to, not making you write what I want to.</trite>

6. Don't bother with line by line sub-editting.

Also, is everybody going to read and comment on everybody else's? That'll mean reading ten or eleven stories, which I suppose is OK with the fortnightly schedule.

Hapax legomenon Welcome to Barbelith! I'd also have no problem in welcoming to you POP:11 but you have to refer to Czar Phex our personal despot.... but pssssst he's really a pushover.

I've posted something. I'm not sure if it has any merit especially as pertaining to Merchandise but it is there for you to review at your leisure.

I'm also going to suggest that between each writing project we have a week of reviewing and reading each others work.
It might be beneficial, I think, as surely the reviewing and critiquing is nearly as important as the actual writing and with such a large membership it might be problematic to give proper individual focus to everyones otherwise.
PHEX?

Pushover 'ey?

Suck my Force!

Ahem, as for the matter at hand, I will allow Hapax legomenon into pop.11 (bring the total members to a Sith-friendly thirteen). But nobody else or we'll never have time to read and critique everybody's work. Hapax will now be known as Darth Sugarplum, as is befitting an acolyte of the Dark Side.
As for your second point, I think keeping everything on a two week rotation will work fine for now. It means we won't go overboard on long pieces of writing that'll require a lot of discussion by other board members.

Now, riiiise... Darth Sugarplum.

I have a bad feeling about this ;-)

Welcome to the population Hapax.

Just one quick question, people. Are we reviewing/generating auto-critique on this thread or on each other's blogs? Enquiring minds want to know.

Now I lurch off to write me a brain-munchingly gory zombie story.
