Just as a courtesy, of course.

Strix, you seem to think that there was a breakdown in communication here, when in fact it's entirely possible that it was simply the temporary breakdown in the board which led to confusion. As stated at the very beginning of this thread, it wasn't clear whether you'd put an actual moderation request in or were just requesting that a moderator put in a request. As *nobody* knew what was happening when you asked what was going on, nobody could give you an answer - it wasn't known whether you'd actioned the request yourself, whether somebody else was being asked to, or whether the request had been put into motion and vetoed. Hence Haus starting this thread.

Just accept that it was the result of confusion and not purposeful rudeness.

Which is why I submitted that reply to your complaint in the original thread, saying something like "Someone might have informed you, had they known what the problem was."

A post which, incidentally, has vanished off the face of the earth. Dunno who put that up, but I'd have quite liked to have been asked or informed about the decision to delete it. It wasn't intended as a snark, just a simple explanation. And hell, even if it did read as a snark, it's not like they normally get moderated out of existence because of potential misunderstanding without the poster themselves requesting it. Slightly annoyed about that one.

Didn't see your post, Spatula, but maybe it was deleted because telling the whole Conversation that there was currently no moderation may have been judged to be a bad move? (Could be completely wrong, of course... I don't even know what your post said, so I'm just guessing).

Actually, scratch that. It can't have been deleted until AFTER the mod thing was fixed, obviously. Ignore my last post. It was silly.

Yeah, it came immediately after the two from Petey and the one from Strix. I'm just a bit surprised that one the one hand I wasn't asked or notified, and that on the other it was deemed necessary to delete it at all - if we were to delete every off topic and/or possibly snarky post from Music or FTV&T, we'd be removing 20% of each forum. And it wasn't actually guilty of being either of those things.

And as the sound of Haus arguing with someone filled the air, all the children knew everything was back to normal in Barbeloid Vale...

Thanks Tom and Cal!

Quite so.

Strix, I apologise for the oversight. By the time we worked out what was going on, it was too late for a PM to be useful.

On deletions - also partly my bad. Another moderator moved to delete all the comments relating to the technical issue, on the grounds that the matter had now been dealt with. I agreed one of these, but then realised that the moderator wanted to delete every post relating to it, which seemed like overmoderation for the Conversation, so disagreed the rest.

No problem Haus. Usually moderators are pretty courteous here, so I was wondering if I had digital equivalent of halitosis or deordorant failure. Just the fact that you started this thread to clear up the problem was lovely, Haus. I just wish I had known this thread was here before my third post regarding this in the thread itself. I wouldn't have bothered to and would have posted here instead. C'est la vie.

With that, I have to say I am all for editing out my reminders/complaints in the Pope Thread, so it reads fluently as a discussion. Shall I?

I guess that's a fairly sensible move Strix. Are there none from anyone else that relate?

There were others when I last looked at it. Other than Spatula's which was removed in some overzealous moderating..heh.

Anyway, I am off to remove mine now, as we might want to continue discussion about this when the new pope is chosen.

Yeah, that was me. I figured the whole sub/meta conversation about moderation 1. had squat to do with the pope, 2. had already become irrelevant since the original request was done and the system was working again, and 3. unlike 80% of the Conversation, this topic was sort of coherent and going somewhere. But Catholicism gets me like that. Sorry about that.

-----

Anyway, I'm poking my head in this thread because I think I just noticed a problem with the "fixed" moderation system.

Here's the deal: I got a job from Poster A, fixing an img tag. Routine. The img came from an external site, the link for which I right-clicked, opened-in-other-window to check out.

I'm *pretty sure* OKed the request right away, got the "Good job!" screen, navigated back to main page in the Barbelith window, kind of on autopilot while browsing the other site in the other window.

THEN I realized I was kind of curious about the content of the rest of the thread the mod request came from, so right-clicked the back button, got menu, went to (already done) mod request, hit "reference" link to get that topic up, which, as usual opened itself in another page.

And then, absent-mindedly hit OK on the request that was still open, went "d'oh!" and waited for the error screen to appear telling me I didn't have adequate permissions to handle that request (since I'd already voted on it once).

But it went through and gave me the "Good job!" screen. For what I *think* was the second time.

So either my brain is malfunctioning (I just got in the office after a sleepless night, so this is quite possible) or else I just voted twice on a single action. Which could be a problem.

I'm pretty sure you didn't vote twice, just that we decided that if someone else had done the job while you had that there shouldn't be an error message. It should just thank you and disregard the additional vote. I don't suppose there's any chance you noted down the moderation request number is there?

Oh, that would explain it, yes.

And sorry, no, I didn't note down the number. If you like, I can try to replicate it later today and make a note of the number. And actually, like, pay attention to what's going on.

That's cool, Tom! It may seem a little thing, but thank you- I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets the instinctive jitters when the see the word "Error", even if they know what's going on!

Interesting -- I tried it again (ID# 26511) and got the old error message.
