I think it's that because the Mayan long-count calendar will zero out. Mayan priests knew about it, but the programmers of the stone sun computer left a bar (=5) register out, figuring they'd all be dust by the time it became a problem. Well, they were right, but we're stuck with it. It's called the Y52J, for Year 52 Jaguar problem.
There's no special reason for the Mayan gods to return, but if they do, they'll be awfully hungry.

And I'll be 49.

Possibly not, I read (can't remember where) that the poles shifting will result in the earth stopping and spinning in the opposite direction. This would mean that for a period (presumably about 24 hours), you'd either have a very long day or night depending on where you are in the world.

well, yes that would suck, but it would still be a day. and the sun would still be rising and setting. Albiet fucked-uppedly.

Just to be snippy.

What, so the earth just stops spinning in one direction one day and starts spinning in the other? Wouldn't that kill us all?

I'm not really convinced the magnetic inversion will have any immediately noticable physical effects. I mean sure, the telly will be out, but as for the earth physically flipping about, I don't think that is quite what this is about.

well it would screw up all the birds going south for the winter. Following the earths magnetics will get you bugs bunny left turn at alburqurque lost when the poles shift. All migrating birds will die as they head north for the winter. Either that or Buffy finaly dies.

I'm pretty sure I saw this date referred to as "the end of time."

The End of Time

So it could (and here we have a connection to the Invisibles) represent the "time" at which time travel opens up to us. I tend to think it won't necessarily involve a "machine" that one steps into.

Perhaps it will coincide with a breaking point, so to speak, where a certain larger percentage of humanity has evolved spiritually/magickally and pull the rest of humanity to the "next stage" of evolution...which could involve time travel.
It might even mean we will each have the ability to re-shape reality (tunnels).
I think that those who have experiences with Astral travel, psychodelics, cartoons/video games, and maybe even delusional schizophrenia will have no trouble adjusting to the new state of consciousness. The "straight" folk will probably go shit-eating mad and die off.

Remember though--due to that doubling-of-information-thing, for us to imagine what it will feel like roughly equals someone from 1910 e.v. to imagine today(2002 e.v.). So we're all probably way off....

I've also heard recently of some projections on the world use of oil, and comparasons with the rate in which oil can be welled from fields and the like. The estimate was that global crunch time will be in about 10 years, when the currently known fields all are exausted. Hm. Gee, that does put this at about 2012 as the time for the major energy crisis, doesn't it? It is pretty scary just how much our society is dependent on oil, just think of what would happen should it run out. Right now, it would definitely be the "end of the world" as we know it, for sure.

Here's a link about the impending oil and energy crisis we'll be facing in a few years. Its scary stuff. If the world is to come to some new transcendental level of being on 2012, it'll need a lot of power to get there. If the power runs out, like it may well do sometime around that time, the process could grind to a halt. Global communications such as the Internet that help build the spiritual change often spoken of depend on power.

Basicly, if there's something big we're supposed to hit on as humans, something that will change the world and move us forward into a new level of being, we'd better find it fast cause if we don't, its back to the 1900s all over again. We've only got access to the extreme excess of power we currently enjoy for so long. I sure hope we make the most of it before its gone.

I'm just gonna leap in with my personal stance on what might occur on this much-debated date.

All of humanity becomes telepathic. No additional power input required. The electro-magnetic liquid-wiring of our consciousness just "clicks".

(Typing that made me think it might have something to do with the whole magnetic-pole-shift position. Hadn't made that connection before though...)

Someone who usually sends me jokes, sent me this mildly interesting article on Mayan Predictions and I put it on my site. (My sorely neglected site!)

I do not know how accurate any of it is, but it may be of interest. I added a link on the page, to more information on the Mayan Calendar.

Well whadda ya know, there actually is something happening that date. In
this article,
the matter is explained in a clear fashon. Basicly, on December 21st 2012, there will be an incredible conjunction of the eliptic, the Milky Way, and the Sun.

Its like a giant crossroads, with the sun and the galactic center lined up. If ever there was a signifigant astrological reason for something transcendental to happen, this is pretty much as good as it gets.

Have a read, I'd be real interested in what y'all think of this.

My friend called me and mentioned a dream he had (I refered him here).

He met a stranger working at the counter of a store. The stranger said that the world was going to end in eleven years and that the last year of the end of the world was only going to take nine months because the first three months already took place during the time of slichot.

He's been reading VALIS, so he figured this refers to time, being stopped, starting again.

We're researching slichot as we speak.

You know, this is weird: the last (bottom right) square on the Mayan Calendar is the Washington, D.C. flag, which was originally the personal arms of George Washington.

At this late hour I'm thinking this topic is still "new"...So forgive me if its not.

To me this date (Dec. 22, 2012) has been plauging me for at least three years now. Before I got ahold of 'The Invisibles'. I don't know why but my biggest phobia is an 'end' of sorts. I guess being brought up Catholic instills that fear of hell and brimstone and such. But, growing away from that to my own spirituality. I became less afraid of the issue.

Then when I finished the last issue of 'The Invisibles', I was drawn back into that fear paradigm. I'm still playing "the game" as Grant has referred to it and haven't fully gotten it yet.

Looking at all these 2012 posts and the attached links has helped a bit(If not giving me a minor headache at first)...

Tackling Terrance McKenna's theorom with the I-Ching, I read it and as one person before in an earlier post said after reading it his head (was it?) exploded...then each subsequent time, tackling the ideas. The biggest thing I see in all the McKenna diagrams isn't so much as what all the mathmatical drivvel says, but the fact that when he applied all the applications at the end of his theorom...it strangley resembled DNA coding. This is something that my guide pointed out.

Then moving on to the Mayan calander and their solar basis on the other site. I pulled on the biggest factor that the Mayans are/were very rooted to astronomy/astrology. And that it seems feesible to see that seeing the milky way and the 'dark road' would be of major importance in that belief. But it was all based in scientific theorom.

The latter of the links 'The World Will Not End', has led me to what I guess I've always known. That it won't end. It just could be hell on earth or heaven on earth depending on how we deal with it.

The biggest thing I remember from 'The Invisibles' at this hour at which my brain is shutting down was the final three issues of series three. The biggest two were A.) King Mobs 'game' "We use the en-eh-me" and B.) Dane's final words on the subject "Our sentence is up"....

Using all that as Grant in my mind threw in every single Pop-culture reference from every generation, but the biggest thing I found was an interview that was done with him for the Disinfomation site. He mentioned 'trends and generations'. How the new generation has "nowhere to go, or aren't sure what they believe in" Ultimatly he said that we as a people move through phases and something about how the new phase would be more earth sympathetic and even more so, it would be similar to hippies yet also indians too. And that this is seen in current "Pop Culture" trends. The biggest and probably first in his prophecy to getting to this 'generation' was the LOTR trilogy in theatres.

Pull on what Carlos Barrios had to say on the subject in Bendht Chromeo's link...that it will not end it's just a transition into the fifth sun. And how it plays out depends on what we do now.

There I pulled a few things that similarly related to the themes in 'The Invisibles'

A.) The fight of the dark and light...and the factor of the two brothers fighting the evil demon lord? on the dark road. This factor plays into the "two churches" The Invisibles = Light and The Archons = Dark. Upon this how the dark is trying to blind us of what were supposed to see because it wants us to stay in a material age (The ongoing and ultimate theme of 'The Invisibles').

B.) The quote on how we are feeling in the article "We are disturbed," he said. "We can't play anymore. Our planet can be renewed or ravaged. Now is the time to awaken and take action."
(Play this again in King Mob using the enemy to grow The Invisible army in a VR game of their own...and Dane choosing not to fully grasp that handle)

C.) The final thing was this quote taken from the same link..."According to Mr. Barrios' reading of the Mayan calendar, if war happens in November 2002 or after, then it's bad, but not catastrophic. But if it happens between April and November 2003, it will be catastrophic. Really bad." According to this so far we are in the clear, but if the administration (dark forces?) keep pushing for this war...clearly we might be (dont know if I can swear in here, and dont want to be banned) F***ed. Take what Dane said here from 'The Invisibles' "Our Sentence is Up"....

In the end my feeling is 'The Invisibles' was a "mass market" attempt to awaken and cause action with this (given that Grant is a Chaos Magician...So take what you will but after all is said and done....the thing obviously we need to focus on for a smooth transition is all things good...love, light, acceptance, peace.

I know this all sounds cliche and I might even be rambling here, but this is my take on it all. And hopefully the final time my brain tries to solve this. And upon posting this note I recommend everyone read 'The World Will Not End' link and work on the issues regarded at the bottom. The biggest that came to my mind was the candle prayer (or to me known as candle magick) Anyways take what you will with this...and run (but not with scissors (c; ) and if this is just a big long post that annoys you please disregard.

I Flee Now...And in doing so my brain has evolved into the Nth dimension (I feel)

wow, pretty much *all* of the above sounds absolutely spot on to me.

Hadn't heard this before;
"if war happens in November 2002 or after, then it's bad, but not catastrophic. But if it happens between April and November 2003, it will be catastrophic. Really bad."
But it perfectly correlates with my feelings about the importance of 2003.
guess we all better start 'om-ing' and keep it going till December..

Just a note on McKenna's derivation of the 2012 date... By some superposition of the 64 I-Ching hexagrams, he generated a computer program called Timewave Zero which, when run, would chart the ingression of novelty into our reality/universe/matrix/whatever. Basically it charts the amount of novel creations happening on the planet at a given time.

Well, when he ran it open-ended the graph hit zero at some time in the evening of Dec 22, 2012. He claims at the time he knew nothing of the Myan endpoint and was astonished to learn that it coincided with the Timewave endpoint. In any case, it IS pretty astonishing that a computer algorithm based on the I-Ching would would resolve the same end-point as a 1500 year-old mesoamerican calendar (especially when that calendar is regarded as one of the most advanced timepieces known). According to McKenna, much of the increasing chaos and novelty around us as we move towards the Eschaton are actually shockwaves from the singularity of 2012 moving back through time like waves (likewise, all apocalyptic myths are seen as foreknowledge of this huge event in spacetime).

Personally, I believe that the transition relates to time and thought and how we differentiate Self from Other, and Real from Simulacrum. I don't think it will be an apocalyptic endpoint, but it will likely be attended by much chaos. I suspect further that it will be somewhat like Revelations in that some will evolve into the next phase while others will stay behind. Or maybe it's like GM says and it will mark the pupation of our larval 4-dimensional universe into its adult 5+ dimensional fluid entity.

Or maybe it's all a massively delusional meme propogated by fearful apes hoping to make it into heaven in time to watch the world burn.

To usher in the Sixth Sun, the resident manifestation of Tezcatlipoca (or one of the other major mesoamerican pantheons) must sacrifice themselves, as has occured at the instigation of every other New Sun. In the past it has been done by immolation, drowning, and dismemberment. I'm pretty sure the Sixth Sun has something to do with being devoured by lemurs.

Anyway, the Brahmins figure the Kali Yug has at least another 13 million years. Not that this is a plus.

Wasnt the ushering of the 3rd age the arrival of Cortez ? And the mention was \"coming like a swarm of butterfly\"...what the ships looked like when they appeared. No sacrifices I remember. Though that brings to light the fact that all these mesoamericans waited at the shores for some BIG event. While Im sure it would be an amazing thing to see amazing ships...this correlates with they symbolism in Christian/Catholic paradigms in Revelation. Some big spaceship will usher the 5th age...through the dark road. And out pops...Michael Jackson after he\'s shed his skin to reveal his true self.
