Well done Benny and congrats to Mrs. The Ball an' all!

Hrrmmmm... unsure of the etiquette here..... Haus, should me and you just wade back in? Marquis of Queensbury rules? I warn you, I throw a mean right spacebar.

Regardless... I think Barbelith needs another new forum.

The Créche, anyone?

I just wanna know how your date with that goth girl went! Was she a suicidegirl lol? "Stupidity" sounds like a suicidegirl name

(Slightly more seriously, I'm not sure there's a lot of profit in revisiting it. I stated my basic point of complaint - that you stated that anyone who might want to ask questions of which you did not approve should admit to having "deep-seated issues", and that you subsequently failed to take responsibility for that statement, or indeed acknowledge that you had made it - at the time. We could reprint the PM exhange from days gone by, if would be gratifying, but I am hoping it is not necessary. The softer, gentler me would probably not have reacted so harshly, and perhaps iamus2007 would not have made such an appalling statement in the first place.)

Pretty much both counts I reckon. I still think that in my head there was the seed of a valid point there somewhere, just a particularly inept way of putting it across. Bothers me not a jot anymore though. It's all water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned big guy.

I was being entirely facetious in the post at the top of the page by the way. We're all smarter, nicer people since then.

Oh. And I do apologise for being a cock about it.

Sorry, back to normal service. Well done again, Benny. Best wishes to you all.

All good - had the 22 week scan yesterday, and it's a boy, all present and accounted for, he looks very healthy, very active and has great legs.

Ah, none of that I don't want to know nonsense from your corner then, Benny. Knowing the sex helped me bond with the small person before he was born, and, well, birth is a big enough deal as it is. I didn't need any more new information that day, I can tell you.

Some people seem to get a kick out of it, though, so each to their own, I guess.

So, when are you going to start reading to it?

Oi!

I like surprises, so - in addition to not wanting to pay the astronomical fee Glasgow hospitals charged for the baby-sexing - I was quite happy to leave it till the moment to find out. I hadn't perhaps factored in the eleven hours of adrenaline that made it quite hard to focus on the genital region of the progeny howevs.

Fee? Eeek. How much?

The sex business seems to be much more about the run up to baby than the birth itself. At least, that's how not knowing the sex would hold the potential to be entertaining to me, because, frankly, I can't imagine that being presented with the sex of my child would have made his birth any more earth shatteringly amazing. That's the kind of joycore that I can't imagine being bettered.

I suppose some people are very concerned about the sex of their children, but that way lies potentially worrying stuff.

It was about £200-300 as I recall - I think the city's likely overtaxed for scans, Dundee certainly didn't have the same problems; I wasn't personally very concerned about the gender, but did broadly possess preference for a boy (first, at least; I'd really like a girl if we do it again in the next few years) so I s'pose it was a minor additional bonus to finally after what seemed an age make out a wee tinkler and some frankly, oversized to the untrained eye, balls.

I was (and still am) determined not to vigorously police gender boundaries and all that, but for some strange reason I was convinced we were going to have a girl, and was ever-so-very slightly disappointed when the scan came back avec le penis.

People who care about this stuff probably should have a scan, imo, because, assuming they're not unhealthily attached to the idea of having a son (I use this example for the obvious reason historically many people have been), it'll give them time to adjust

What would be really great would be crystal balls for parents. Give them 20 years or so to adjust to their child not being the gender they thought.

It's quite a... well... I don't exactly have the words... those first few days had something approaching a dreamlike quality, I can't quite remember them. Magical in the true sense of the word, perhaps.

Somebody with photoshop skills needs to be putting that baby in front of an appropriate backdrop.
Or maybe that would be disrespectful to the cute little bugger (I mean that in the non-British sense, by the way, or do you all say that innocently at times?). He really is cute, congratulations to the the Balls.
