Just chiming in to say, while Astonishing is fun, I'm not finding any reason to revisit the material. Morrison's NXM I could reread and get new stuff, Ellis' Transmet I can reread and still enjoy and chuckle to myself, Warren's Gen 13 (self-referential wit, re-gaying, and drunken nudity - I am too easy to please) works just as well for me when I read it earlier today as it did back when it was published.
Astonishing, while fun, is like the recent DC Hawkman series, in that, while enjoyable as it's released, I can't get back into it once it's gone and done. It's 'The Day After Tomorrow' as opposed to, I dunno, 'Masked and Anonymous' and that's kinda depressing for me to admit.
By the end of year one I may well wish I'd never typed this, though. I mean, I don't really like Watchmen or Promethea, either, so my taste is off, surely. |
