Suedey! SHOT FOR MEAT!

Yes, but you do know that he's actually a super secret special super agent, right? I mean. He would rock. Although he did write that Good Will Hunting tripe... but let's just blame Affleck. What have you done to me, Q? You've turned me in to a Damon fan. It's like my dirty secret. One of them, anyway. I can't have people thinking that's the weirdest thing about me.

Funnily enough I watched both those films again this weekend! I do prefer the first one, but I think you know why that is. Seeing as I don't have such a big thing for sweaters, but European women with cute hair.

The ending of the second one is a bit duff too, though. Although I do like it a lot more after a second (and third) viewing. I didn't like it at all in the cinema, as I think the way it's shot didn't work for me at all on the big screen. I'm wondering what the third one will be like.

So, is it still worth me watching the first one, now that I’ve seen and been unimpressed by the second one? I didn’t like it too much. A lot of the time it felt like trying to watch a tv set that I was chasing down some stairs.

I think they will feature a man with teeth that start just below his eyebrows.

You have to ask Q, I think he's controlling my mind. I do know what you mean about the second one - as that's the same problem I had at the cinema. Where did you see it?

I do prefer the first one. It's more like a European road movie romance. With spies and stuff. And as Q will add, it's very good for Damon/sweater interaction.

I can only control one mind at a time and I'm having so much fun with Suedey that I'm going to have to leave you to your own consciences. The first Bourne movie is excellent; the second is sort of an appendix. They only have a single very slender plot between them, but it's not about the plot in this case, it's about an action movie with a progressive political agenda (carefully coded, mind you) and the dream of waking up one day with the mysterious ability to speak any language, kick anyone's ass, and effortlessly "pull" cute French girls, despite the obvious threat to their lives. I mean, that's game.

Can he not be, please? People, do you not have any say in who runs your country?

In theory, more than you do, but in fact, no, not really. There's a lot more of us, you know. At any rate, if prior celebrity is going to remain a major factor in US politics, and it looks increasingly as though this is the case, he wouldn't be so bad. He's smart and well-educated, somewhat self-made (rather than a creature of influence), and reliably sympathizes with progessive agendas. Would you vote for him or for Arnie?

Dude, she's not even French!

She's not? Is she German? C'mon. That's like saying there's something very different about the Irish and the Scottish. What's her name, can you even tell me?

Who do you think would win in a fight, Jason Bourne or Elektra?

Suedey! SHOT FOR MEAT!

Yeah, she's German. There's a line in the film where she says "My French isn't so good!" - do you mean the actors name or the character? C'mon! (Franke Potente/Maria, by the way)

I hope Bourne fights Elektra in "The Bourne Ultimatum". That's a really crap title.

"Franke Potente?" As in, "Strongly French?"

It is a pretty crap title, but then, it’s a pretty crap spy name, Malcolm Bourne. You can't really do much with it. ‘Matt Damon’ is much more of a sexy superspy, sequeltastic-kinda name.

Watched the 2nd film on my computer, Suedey. My brother foisted copies of both films on me at the weekend, so I just watched the one I *thought* is supposed to be best. Gah. I’ll watch the first one right now. Seeing as you’re not controlling my mind about this.

You do know he's called Jason, right? Wait, what did his real name turn out to be? I liked how rubbish they all were.

Ooooh, you’re right. Malcolm Bourne used to write particularly pompous letters to Swamp Thing and Sandman. That I’m getting the two confused, that’s not really the best review.

Jason, yes, that’s a bit better. Never met a Jason who couldn’t beat me up, IIRC.

His real name is David Webb and, like almost all the terrifying badasses of American history, he's from Missouri. The Bourne Ultimatum is the name of the Ludlum novel, as was The Bourne Supremacy, which really doesn't even make sense. I've read the first Ludlum book but not the other two. You know what would be super cool? A Jason Bourne vs. Tom Ripley movie, a la Jason vs. Freddy.

I love that they're sticking to the trilogy scheme and the naming scheme, even though the stories themselves have nothing whatsoever to do with the Ludlum novels. There wasn't even really a need to use the Ludlum names.

I'd like to request that the abstract be changed to reflect the discussion of Jason Bourne going on herewith.

I'd like to see him take out the Affleck-spy guy, whatever his name was. Jack Ryan? I don't know.

And if you've got a naming scheme ready, well, you can't let it go to waste! I don't really know what they can do with him for a third one, though. He's not allowed anymore cute Europeans.

You can get the first movie on DVD for just £4.99 on play.com - that's a crazy cheap prize, I'd get it myself if I had the cash..

HA! I'd barbequote that, but it would be impossible to provide the full context (your digressions thread, this one, and everything else that's been going on ) that makes it so funny.
