Barbelith Weekend Doldrums

I'm sitting at my computer, writing away, Barbelith up in the background. I reload every once in a while but nothing ever happens here on weekends. I mean come on, do you all think you have better things to do or something? What's the sketch? Seriously.
It's like Asterix in Britain, where they all just stop fighting the Romans every weekend for tea (and possibly crumpets) only to start back up again in earnest the following Monday.

What happens? Do you all go back to your Amino Acid tubes to regenerate? Is there some other exclusive "Weekend Barbelith" presented by Richard and Judy in Hawaii that I don't know about? I want in, godammit!

I'm not moving from this screen for the day (maybe) sos I can get a load of work done. That's why I want distracted. Tell a joke. Give me some fun facts. I'm holding a mirror to your mouths, show me you're still breathing. Save me.

Please?

I've been doing much the same, to be honest, while I ate breakfast (yes, my keyboard's always a mess), but now I'm going out shopping. Sorry!

You big tease.

I'm here on weekends lately, feeling like a big loser while everyone else is out drinking apple martinis with bisexual models, &c., because I work weekends.

And that's the ONLY reason, do you hear me?

I'm at work at the moment, first time in ages it's been quiet enough to check B-Lith. Is everyone out doing christmas shopping?

I thought this place was the venue of choice for apple martini swilling bisexual models, but perhaps that's not so. Although to be honest that does sounds like more of a "Barbelith Nights" sort of thing.

It's looking that way Lady. Not for me though! The last minute rush is by far the best way to shop for christmas presents.

Xmas = slavery

iamus

Life = Slavery

Life = Freedom

Ooh! I want to be the sexy police detective.

Oh, man! That's fucked up. That's the most fucked up thing I've seen on Barbelith in a long time.

iamus
10:34 / 18.12.04
Hmmmm.

Perhaps a little misjudged. It's possible it's not going to go down too well...

8===>Q: alyn
10:35 / 18.12.04
Uh, I don't have a problem with it! And if anyone gets mad, I'll take the heat.

Elegant Mess
10:36 / 18.12.04
It made me laugh. It was a guilty laugh, like...

iamus
10:36 / 18.12.04
Actually, at the risk of offense, I think I'll take it back down. I've seen those arguments...

That's your decision, I guess, Meludreen, and possibly a wise one. This image differs in numerous important ways from the provocative remarks which caused that last round of Barbeself-criticism and is, imo, more defensible. I don't think it constitutes a racist joke in itself. It's just fucked up.

iamus
10:40 / 18.12.04
I don't think it's that bad either, but you know how these things go I'm sure.

8===>Q: alyn
10:52 / 18.12.04
All right, then. To follow your honorable example, I will discontinue this ridiculous "X = slavery" meme.

iamus
10:54 / 18.12.04
Woah, Mess. Are you a 'wegie?

Elegant Mess
10:55 / 18.12.04
For my sins, yes, I'm a Weegie.

Nice day today, huh?

iamus
10:55 / 18.12.04
Very noble of you Q. I take it you're no great fan of the Christmas season then?

iamus
10:58 / 18.12.04
It's a lovely day today. Pity I'm staying inside to do writing (which, you might have guessed, isn't going to well so far). Which end of the city do you live?

8===>Q: alyn
10:59 / 18.12.04
Well, I dunno. I hate the world right now.

iamus
11:00 / 18.12.04
Any particular reason, Q?
Personally, I've always found the world to break even.

Elegant Mess
11:04 / 18.12.04
I'm representing the fashionable west end, Meludreen.

Which side are ye on yersel'?

Qalyn, I have to say I'm falling on the "Do we HAVE to?" side of the Christmas fence this year too. Stupid bastard Christmas Can't we just skip to 2005 and not have to bother with all this festive faffing around?

8===>Q: alyn
11:05 / 18.12.04
Aw, it's not important. I'm living deep in the swamps of Self-Awaria these days and it's some ugly terrain. But it's not really a big deal.

Weegie? Are y'all Norwegians? My grandparents lived in Paisley. They're dead now. Merry Xmas!

Elegant Mess
11:06 / 18.12.04
Hey, my grandparents lived in Paisley and they're dead too.

Are we related?

8===>Q: alyn
11:08 / 18.12.04
Let's say we are.

Uh, I gotta go now. See you later.

iamus
11:08 / 18.12.04
That's what happens when you live in Paisley, unfortunately.

I'm a Southsider myself, although I do have several prominent West End connections (Well, in as much as people I know live there. Not very prominent at all really).

iamus
11:10 / 18.12.04
Dying that is.

Although...

iamus
11:13 / 18.12.04
Do you know any of the other Weegie 'lithers?

Elegant Mess
11:20 / 18.12.04
You're probably right on both counts there, unfortunately.

Ahh, Glasgow's leafy south side. I have to admit, I rarely venture south of the river, preferring the haughty Victorian grandeur of my red-sandstone garret

I'm not personally familiar with any of the Glasgow 'lithers, no. Although I've been a member here for the better part of two years, and a heavy lurker for most of that time, I've only started posting properly in the last month or so, so I haven't really made any connections with any of them. For all I know, there could be raucous Glasgow Barbemeets going on all the time. I'm aware there's quite a few Weegie 'lithers about, though.
