As for the Nebula Man:
--------
The Nebula Man is a mysterious entity animated by unknown means - he likes to try destroying the planet Earth a whole lot. During the 40's, the Nebula Man first came into existence thanks to a villain known as the Hand. Composed of cosmic energy and possessing the power of atomic bombs in each of his fingers(!), the Nebula Man threatened the planet until stopped by the Seven Soldiers of Victory, who defeated him but lost a member, Wing - the rest became scattered across the timestream in the ensuing explosion. The Nebula Man showed up again decades later, possessing Wing's corpse, and was stopped by the Star-Spangled Kid.
-------

The Seven Soldiers of Victory had a lot to do with the JSA, but I don't know much about them - however - their two major villains the Nebula Man and The Hand (all I know about him is that he lost his hand and had it replaced with a mechanical-weapony one).

The Nebula Man has shown up in this issue, but Morrison also said that the old Green Lantern villain Black Hand would have something to do with this arc - and our friend the Black Hand just had his hand burned off by the Spectre in Green Lanter: Rebirth. So this is likely the prologue for Morrison's Seven Soldiers revamp.

Well, this "Glob" is definitely he-who-was-formerly-known-as-Flux--his first name is mentioned. Maybe upcoming events will make him heir to this other Glob fellow somehow.

As an aside, what's Grant's obsession with the name "Flux?" There's at least 3 different superfolks he's created with that name, or a variation thereof...

His name was Flow, not Flux. What characters of his have been named Flux?

Oh, stupid me. Well, maybe it's just my obsession with hearing it.

"Doom Force Special" featured Flux, Australian shapeshifter with a sperm-covered costume. And one of the JLA's Hyperclan was Fluxus, also a shapeshifter (specializing in that, not just a Martian like the rest of them.)

I realize two does not an obsession make, and now that you've corrected me about the third, well...er.

I though that this comic was AWESOME and completely bugfuckmad in the best way possible (for a superhero comic). I prefer GM's personal projects to his companywhore stuff, but if the upcoming Seven Soldiers multi-maxi-mini-series is like this, then I'm signing on. I cursed his name when he wrote JLA and Vampirella way back when, as I'd proudly never bought such obvious trash, but I enjoyed the stuff all the same. Now the bugger's gone and done it again. Pfff.

Couple of details:

Goraiko apparently speaks in symbols (and the occasional haiku). When he burned the minions, he was quoting a chemical reaction. My guess is he's some kind of living atomic reactor, although his name refers to the act of "witnessing the sunrise from the top of Mt. Fuji".

I'm guessing Flow became Glob because he no longer moves that much, but instead acts like a living computer for the team. (As opposed to Pulse 8, who appears to be the new Writer )

You might also mention the rather nifty little Spitfire-drones Knight uses now for recon.

Goraiko was quoting a nuclear reaction, to be picky...alpha decay of uranium. Must have been referring to a reaction within his own body, as you say.

The first thing he says ("f=gamma m1 m2/r^2") is apparently a comment on the gravity of the situation. Hooray for physics puns!

And the symbol he speaks after knocking Grodd down is the Kanji for "shi," or "stop." I think.
