I'm just really provincial in my music tastes. The R&M forum, for me, is useful because I read what all you cool people like, go check it out, find it either enjoyable or inaccessible to me, and keep the stuff that I like. "Thanks for recommending; I liked this" is not particularly exciting reading or writing. Neither is "Um, I'm sure this is technically and intellectually very good, but to me it sounds like static with occasional pure tones and, in the background, someone methodically disassembling an automobile with careful and deliberate application of a sledgehammer, accompanied by a chorus of thirty or forty excited howler monkeys." I do really appreciate the contributions of others, though, so I guess that means I'm going to have to make an effort to contribute more myself.
