I liked it quite a lot. Kitty's reaction to Colossus being back (if this is indeed not some complicated bluff against us by Whedon), Cyclops' delirium, organising the counterattack by telepathy (shades of King Mob defeating Miss Dwyer/JLA using telepathy in Grant's run?), Wing deciding that maybe being a mutant wasn't too bad after all, Ord "oh no, is that dragon thing behind me?"
I'm wondering about whether SHIELD (and it took me several reads to pay enough attention to notice Fury and green leotard girl)were funding Doctor Rao's research. Fury's conversation made it pretty clear that SHIELD could quite conceivably see mutants, especially post-Magneto, as a huge threat to internal security and consider defanging them to be more humane than killing them. It's all a clever metaffer for post Sept. 11th America and Muslims, do you see? Quite how Ord fits in I'm not sure, perhaps he gave Rao the technology she needed to make the cure, in exchange she helped him get access to SHIELD weapons? Of course, SHIELD might really only be there to get Ord. And will they conveniently get the cure genie back in the bottle, or is Joss going to let this float around out there for other writers to play with as they choose? |
