There's a 5-page dialogue-free preview up at www.comic.com/pulse. I tried to get a specific link but something wonky about that page won't allow it.

Let's say that there will SPOILERS from here on in, though the pages shown don't show all that much....

Anyone else think the people with Ord-given armor look like the woman from Top Ten who was like a housewife who wore this huge exoskeleton? (I mean the exoskeleton looks like the one she wore in Top Ten...) I'm not saying Cass is stealing, just that it reminded me of it...

You mean Irma Geddon, an officer from Top Ten. She wasn't a housewife, she actually had a househusband. He was out of work due to anti-precognitive legislation, until Joe Pi, the coolest fucking robot ever, suggested he get work in quantum physics research.

MAN! I wish there'd be a Season 2.

I LOVE the panel where Scott give that slight smile.

I don't like the Ord design very much.

A minor complaint, but those triangular man-boobs are quite distracting and irritating.

Nor the name, which is the surname of a Geordie munitions disposal man I happen to know.

Cover and first 4 pages here.

It's good. I like the costumes joke a lot. Those little pockets: they never had anything in them, and yet everyone had them in the 90s.

Cover's shit.

'Sweaty and inappropriate' is great. Looks good again.

I can't believe that Ord bastard 'cured' Wing, i'm gutted for the poor guy.

It's great to see the Cuckoos back though, and it looks like Josh has them sussed already, the dialogue seems exactly like the type of thing that Grant would of had them saying, which is really cool.

When's this come out? About a week or so?

I'm not a fan of the cover. The concept isn't awful, it's the execution.

Problem with the Cuckoos - I thought Austen made them three smart blondes with no psi-talent? Now they're talking in unison again? Also, Mindee was "in love" with that boy from the fill-in issues, and now they're saying it's stupid?

I agree that Joss has them better, and more in line with what-they-ought-to-be. I chalk it to Austen being a fool, again. Does this mean we'll be hearing a new, ASTONISHING clarification as to why one sister has the trailer trash name of Mindee?

It's a good Hulk cover, I'll give you that.

But no.

What, there's no precedent for people writing stories in the X-Men world which are immediately invalidated by something else? Haven't you been reading this in the past year?

Really, I think that the new policy at Marvel is "let's just pretend that Austen never happened and clean up his messes if possible." It's a good policy, and one that I strongly endorse.

Joss is just writing the Cuckoos as being the Cuckoos. Austen was the one who fucked up.

I agree. Let's pull a Bobby Ewing on Austen. I like my Cukoos bitchy, too.

Nobody talking about this now it’s out ? How odd.

Anyway, I thought this was another good, solid, read. Minor quibble with the sound effects on the last few pages, as they didn’t seem necessary, and if anything rather ruined the flow of the work – one of Cassaday’s strengths, I think, is that he composes and arranges panels in a way that it’s always clear what’s going on and where you should look next, and having the sound effects kind of ruined that flow for me. Might be just a personal thing, but it felt unnecessary.

And the writing continues to be good stuff – matching the art, it’s always clear what’s going on and where, and the shifts between scenes were good. I know little about the Legacy Virus references, but didn’t feel lost or alienated by them, and as well as some nice tight dialogue in the X-Men/Ord scenes, was impressed by a direct reference to the gay gene (and the televangelists line that linked with it), and amused by Ord’s comment about what might be behind him.

As for the cover, had no problem with it, really. Was more bothered by the advert in the comic for the Captain America fancy dress costume, which reminded me rather of .. I think it was Bob Mortimer as Noel Edmonds who had black tights on and oddly lumpy legs? Someone with better web-fu will no doubt find a link or correct me or both.

Yeah, that was classic Season 2 Buffy ("What's that do?"), which could be good or bad, depending on your attitudes on creative recycling. (I personally thought it was the cat's ass. [Good]).

It's such a solid comic, so straight forward in its awesomeness, that there's really very little to talk about.

It was ok but seemed a bit dull on first read and maybe a little too reliant on 'snappy banter, Joss style which sounds like it should be on a TV show'.

The moment where Scott says "Awww, that's sweet, you were concerned about me" was fun.

I gotta give it a second read, though.

I thought "I am made of RAAAAGGEEE!!" or whatever was a bit much (i.e. overdramatic).

And yes, God almight that stupid horrible ugly Capt. America costume they're advertising is soooo amazingly stupid I can't believe any kid, no matter how nerdy or pathetic, would ever, EVER, EVVEERRRR wear it. The chest muscles come out in a strip of foam or whatever that is PARALLEL to the floor and raised. Whyy does Marvel just cash in on all this merchandising crap, without any sense of pride or hands-on approval/caring about what the products look like???

That Captain America costume kinda freaked me out too!

It was a good issue. Not a lot to say about it - mostly a lot of action and plot motion. Lots of nice bits of dialogue - "my girlfriend is very weird" being my favorite. I appreciate the simple explanation for Colossus' return. Very excited for the conclusion.

"I am made of RAGE!" is over the top, but good over the top. Colossus is a very melodramatic guy to begin with, and being trapped in a hell zone for several years kinda gives him some license for this kind of stuff.

I don't get this AT ALL. I mean, comics - usually the most lauded "widescreen" whatevers - have been ripping off TV shows for years yet now it's a bad thing, when a guy who can actually do that well is doing it...?! hmmm...

However, if you think Joss can't do comics storytelling, you're straight up wacky. Two words. Left ear.

I've never really read anything with Colussus, and I must say I enjoy him terribly from how I interpret him and how people have explained him to me. I love the little moment where he thanks Kitty for spreading his ashes. It made me want to go "oh, you big lug!" and shed a small tear. I mean, obviously I'm a little late to this, but I love the big strong /sensitive caring thing. Y'all know what I mean. Full of rage... just works really, doesn't it?

Bring on the movies!

And Captain America? Wow. I dare somebody to buy one of these.

Pretty good all around, I thought, though the ending was a bit lacking in dramatic tension, ie. sure I'm curious about what S.H.I.E.L.D. is doing there, but we all know perfectly well that Fury's not a bad guy and the X-Men are in danger of at worst being escorted to the front door. Still, I doubt Ord is really down for the count just yet--still 22 pages to fill in this arc, after all, it can't be all explanations.

Ya Suedey, you know that Colossus is also an artist. His sketchbook is probably full of waifish girls swaying in the wind.

I didn't say it was bad, nor did I say it's categorically "a bad thing." I just said some of it seemed "maybe a little too" self-conscious of its cool snappy banter. Something about the tone of some of the dialogue seemed a little too 'aren't we clever?' to me. I gotta read it again anyway.

yeah, really loving this book, and cassaday is a genius, but what's up with his colossus? it looks like a different artist is doing the colossus figures...does it look weird to anyone else?

I think that there was something was funny with the art all the way through out, the strange over comic gurn of the guards etc. Good fun though.

Why did paople have such a problem with the cover? Did I have a different comic?

Another solid issue, not as good as last issue, but still satisfying. Kittie and Peter is the perfect material for someone as skilled at soap-operatics as Joss.

lonely as a cloud...

My favourite part was the sequence when Wolfie, Emma and Beast were just staring at Ord... "Oh, no...is that dragon thing behind me...?" Heh. I thought that was genius, myself.
And Nick Fury and his buddies gate crashing at the end... can't wait to find out what he's been hiding...

Just went back and reread the first 5 issues. I'm really begning to like this book - a lot of the stuff that upon first time reading I found disjointed, really slotted together well, and the art is gorgous - seems like a lot of stuff to tidy up for the next issue though.

I take it back, upon a second reading I didn't find the banter cheesy -- except for when Emma says 'a band-aid will do sweet F.A." -- since when does Emma use phrases like "A band-aid will do fuck-all for my boyfriend here?" For that matter, when has anyone used "sweet F.A." in a comic, ever? Just seemed bizarre and out of character for the upper-class Emma Frost.

And I agree with the comments about Colossus looking cheesy and even kind of bad in the final scenes when he's armored-up. His head is a little too small for his body on the big full-page splash, and his muscles & face look kind of lame in some of the panels. I don't like the layouts/composition on the big Colossus slams evil with righteous rage! page, and I think they chose a lame font for the "THOOM!" sound effect. I took it that maybe Cass was either rushed or he's just learning how to draw Colossus' armored form before our very eyes.
