Well, SeaLab 2021 has just started so I may at least one small opportunity at being chipper before I leave.

Evening all.

What was the movie, tCi?

Mazarine

The turtles are so great- big, shiny blinky eyes, gentle faces, and a big old shell to call home, all dropping by for a snack. The bravest one is the biggest one, which I guess goes to show that (s)he knows what (s)he's doing.

There's a heron of some sort too- huge freakin' bird.

Sekhmet
03:12 / 20.08.04
Ooh, herons are cool. Is it white or grey? Those are the only colors we get down here. More specifically, white heron, little blue heron, great blue heron, or Louisiana heron (also, I think, known as a tricolor heron)?

Sorry, my dad went through a birdwatching phase in my formative years and some of it must have rubbed off...

Oh, and hi, tci, Czern!

Figure I better hang out more in Lateshift, since no one ever PM's me anymore... (*sniff*)...

Mazarine
03:19 / 20.08.04
The heron is grey and white, I think. I haven't really had a goodly gander at him (or her).

03:27 / 20.08.04
But Eion, now the poor birdie's going to be all hungeree...

I know i thought about that but for some reason i felt more sorry for the Fish. Seagulls can go near the sea and find food!

Did anyone see that Bat program on BBC tonight? It showed you baby Bat's growing up and then flying out of the cave for the first time, one part showed you them leaving the cave near the end and the guy said that 5,000 Bat's a second where flying out of it!

EEP! EEP! I never knew baby Bat's where so cute!

Hey, Sekh.

I dunno. Kind of figured I should continue the PM's when I got back in town, what with the Appalachian environs, the novelty of lateshifting, the um . . . the . . .
Sorry, my dad went through a kind of drinking phase in my formative years and some of it must have rubbed off.

Me and booze are buying a house together.

Y'know, I don't think booze is very good at keeping on top of the bills, but hey, you get to choose your housemates, I suppose.

Hi Sekh, Eion, Czern, & Sally! I had to step out to the grocers to get bread, milk and smoke.

Ah, your description of the turtles sounds lovely. I see them slowly swimming by in my mind's eye!

The movie, ah...it was that one with Aragorn and his horse, but not LoTR, um...Hildalgo (sp?).

Sekhmet
03:32 / 20.08.04
Hmm. Possibly a Great Blue or a Tricolor... If it's got a yellow bill and black stripes on its head, that'll be the former; the latter would have a blue bill and maybe sort of a purple area down on its throat. Awesome birds. And huuuuuge. Could be looking at a five or six foot wingspan on the Great Blue.

Sorry. I really like herons. And egrets. I used to live upstream from a rookery containing both, and during nesting season it was very loud - there was a constant yammering, like a huge party going on two blocks away. I used to walk down there, despite the fact that it was tremendously smelly and you were quite likely to have birdie dookies or fish bones in your hair before you left. But sometimes you'd find a young, gangly bird on the ground that fell out of a nest. My dad said the adults would still feed them, and I'm still not sure if that's true or if he was trying to keep me from worrying about them.

But it's great watching them catch fish. They stand so still the fishies swim right under them, and then they strike like lightning. Gulp! Not like the silly seagulls, who peck at the fish till Eion comes and rescues it...

The heron's cool, but the turtles are just so friendly. The biggest one put some effort into climbing ashore, but the bank was too steep. "Not neccessary, guy!" I said to it. "I have no qualms against feeding you while in the water, no need to overextend yourself. You just float on."

It makes me quite glad to visit them, I'll miss them come winter.

Oh, but on the ocean the seagulls scoop up the shell fish and then drop them on rocks in order to get at the gooey goodness inside. And that's pretty damn cool.

And, wipe those wet eyes, 'cause I too apologize for not yet returning yer PM. Soon, soon...

Sekhmet
03:37 / 20.08.04
And naturally, it just started storming like crazy and there's lightning, and I just realized what time it is... I guess I better power down the 'chine and hit the sack.

Sigh.

G'night, y'all... have fun and play nice...

Bon soir Sekh.

God damn it, there's either a cricket or a treefrog in the house, whatever the hell it is, it's noisy.

Bastard Tweed
03:56 / 20.08.04
I hate it when treefrogs get in my house.

Mazarine

The cats are so totally not earning their keep.

the cat's iao

An old roommate of mine used to have treefrogs for pets. He'd be so envious of people who have treefrogs in their houses as part of a natural course of events!

04:08 / 20.08.04
Are there many tree frogs in Canada? It seems to me this is unlikely because most frogs prefer warmer climates. Would moving to Canada be a good way to avoid tree frogs?

This is just a lame excuse to introduce the almost-all-encompassing What do you most like about Canada? poll to Barbelith. Perhaps you can be a source of much-needed diversity or perhaps you can join the ice hockey landslide.

I think the only treefrogs in Canada are kept as pets in aquariums in people's homes (or perhaps in zoos). Yes, moving to Canada would be a good way to avoid treefrogs in any sort of "natural" way.

I will now check out the poll, knowing that I am certainly not part of the "ice-hockey landslide."

Yeah, my vote would have to go with socialized medicine, bub. However, I'm not sure if that would be love or envy.

the cat's iao
04:29 / 20.08.04
Yeah, the socialized medicine is decent, but something that seems to be sliding further into privatization--a big issue in my province (Alberta).

Out of the list, I am affraid I'd have to say SCTV or Kids In The Hall. But, I likely take the health care thing for granted...

Mazarine

I'm not sure what it is. It chirps three or four times every ten to fifteen minutes. I don't think it's any sort of alarm, (CO, I'd be dead by now, fire, I'd be warmer by now, smoke, I'd be teary by now, etc.) It doesn't sound like a cricket, but I also can't imagine what a tree frog would be doing in my house not in an aquarium.

Bastard Tweed
04:34 / 20.08.04
Where did you live before? It may be a regional species of cricket that you hadn't encountered yet.

It doesn't seem likely to be socialized medicine.

Mm-mm: cake.

You like cake?

Me like cake.

Cake no pie.

No fear cake.

Did you, by chance, get hold of some cake, iao?

Ooh... what kind? What's it wearing?

Birthday kind. Lots of chocolate with more chocolate. Wearing a tantalizing two kinds of chocolate icing. Yummmy.

Mazarine

Well, I'd call you a tease, but I asked for it, didn't I. Oh well, I'll have to get by on ice cream sandwiches.

Mmmmyessss.

But ice cream sandwiches are quite delicious!

So, what's the chicken lickin'?
