Right then, me hearties. Spooks and I have decided to have another enormous Halloween party this year. Same deal as last year: fancy dress is mandatory, ie you don't get your foot through the door unless you've made some kind of effort to join in. Halloween or horror fancy dress only, the more creative the better. Should there be enough people there to make it worth doing, there will be prizes - a bottle of champagne goes to the winner of the Best Costume award, a tub of Marmite for the Worst Costume award.

Bring your own booze, naturally, and anything else you'd like. I figure we can offer to put up around twenty people in varying degrees of comfort.

Warning: we do not intend to go to bed for a long time, recreationals permitting.

Obviously it's well over two months away - this is to see if we can book notoriously tricky people in advance. We live in St Denys in Southampton, only five minutes walk from St Denys station, the one before Southampton Central if you're coming from Waterloo. Apart from that, the more the merrier, etc. Apart from Fly, Anna De L, Illmatic and Kit-Kat Club, who we can hopefully rely on to be there anyway, would really like to see Stoatie and Mono, Cherie La Bomb and sleaze... mebbe Haus? Nah, never happen...

Ok, I know it's over two months away, but... bump! No rush, just keeping it up there...

That's a provision yes indeedy from me- depends on work and stuff, but it'd be very cool.

About time, I wondered when people were going to start planning for Halloween.

Do you have to be in a barbe-couple to attend?

pointless and uncalled for
13:52 / 18.08.04
If you do, do you want to go as Ang and Eng?

Bill Posters

I should be along, wow, after only two year's worth of trying there's a fair chance I'll make it this time!

No, barbe-singles welcome too, obviously (I despair of you, mad plums woman).

Yes! for stoatie and Bill and bengali SHALL come, and that's all there is to it. I know who I'm going as. It will take me many moons to manufacture a costume, I can tell you that much...

I was *joking* sweeetness.

And will try very hard to make this, as I've been promising/intending to for years. So, barring sudden slumps, count me in... And I'll reprise the cossie I was going to do last year, as I'm feeling a bit more up to it now....

Damn, now what the hell am I supposed to do with a two person suit.

Ah! See, here in Southampton we have this thing - crazy hicks that we are! - that makes us makes our own jokes AMUSING. See, it signposts the 'joke' for us, so that we can tell it's happened. But I understand you metro/cosmopolitan types don't need such rude signifiers, and can therefore be as arch and stuff as you like. *sigh* One of these days, ah'm gonna go to the big city. Ah'm gonna be a star...

Can I do the same deal as last time, where by I decorate yr place for you, and then get in for free? I'll even wear trousers that fall down and hold Fly's ass again, if it'll clinch the deal.

Serisouly, fancy dress makes my stomach turn...

(I realise "the same deal as last time" would actually involve me genuinly planning to notbe there for the actual party, and then staying, so it may be a bit hard to pull that off this time around, having planned it, n' all... )

Thinking aloud again, pin... and this is why your schemes for world domination will always be foiled.

_pin: you are poor. Poor like a church mouse that never makes any effort to dress up.

It is fun! Come! Come! Come to the party! Come to the party! Satan's there!

Kit-Cat Club

What am I going to wear?

Oh don't!

But I'm completely devoid of ideas! I need help. Best suggestion so far is Carrie, but since I've never seen the film it seems like a cop-out...

Carrie does seem like a bit of a cop out KKC. Bit too easy. If you want something Stephen King related why don't you go as Christine. That would be great fun.

Go as Carrie the Demonic Horse-Faced Woman of Manhattan.

"Later that evening, I found myself wondering. Is it okay for a man to date a woman who has the face of a horse?"

Oh well... Jack and Spooky have given me my costume instructions already... should be a lot of fun.

...and Jack... were you just quoting Black Widow? I didn't think anyone else had even heard that song! (Is it Black Widow? I haven't heard it myself in a while...)

Jack The Bodiless
11:11 / 16.09.04
I think it is Black Widow, yes. Danny Baker used to play the chorus on his old radio show and piss himself...

KKC, shall PM you with a few ideas... I've still got the old back-up plans (fridge, Jason Vorhees) - but this year I'm going for something a little more tricky/daring. Should be able to pull it off, but I'd better start designing/painting soon...

I'm finding this thread utterly excrutiating.

why? I'm pretty sure I know what I'm coming as. And again , better get busy...

Goodness Gracious Meme

Kat - Dead Hermione? (ie when the Boggart is transforming at the beginning of OotP?) - that could be alot of fun?

Jack The Bodiless
11:18 / 22.09.04
Yeah, the other option is to come as 'Dead X' - for example, last year we had Red Riding Hood with large wolftastic bite scratch and slash marks all over. Spooks went as Cruella De Ville, with a handbag made out of the skin and guts of a cuddly Dalmation, all gory and 'orrible. We also had an Evil Queen from Snow White, a (possibly Satanic) nun, a fallen angel (with sword and black wings)...

Then there's concept costumes (last year we had The Death Of Punk, for example, and elseware came as me)... all it needs is a bit of lateral thinking...

You are going to love my costume.

It is going to make you happy.

In your pants.

Well, cool. At least you're coming as something...

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Surely coming as nothing would be the most terrifyingly Lovecraftian costume of all?

Regrettable Juvenilia
09:48 / 27.09.04
Okay, the more I think about this the more I think my first idea was the best - if anyone can help me find a cheap/free shellsuit, baseball cap and England t-shirt I will be very happy...

The HORROR...

Rah! I have a new costume idea. Am posting here mainly to remind myself.

So should I go with the old one, which is complex to make, but could potentially be quite beautiful.

Or the new: dead easy to arrange, bloody funny(yeah yeah, IMO) and absolutely horrible. (especially if I do it 'in character'.)

I think I may come along to this. And I think I may have a costume that will allow me to get on the train and not be accosted by nasty people who don't approve of Halloween or dressing-up.
